The dry sound of the snap echoed through the empty expanse of the training grounds, and it instantly caught the attention of the both of them.
Ashelia's expression quickly shifted to one of horror as she stared at the broken shaft, while Azrael raised a curious brow.
'No...' Ashelia thought as her hand started to tremble. 'What have I done?!'
"You broke it," Azrael blurted out after a long moment of silence, drawing her attention to him. His eyes studied her. "How did you break it?"
Ashelia had to fight the urge to gulp. She couldn't afford to give herself away, not to just anyone. She could tell how curious he was just from a glance but she couldn't let him know...
"The bow is old, and the wood has grown weak," she responded smoothly, more than she had ever done in her life. "How else could my delicate arms have snapped it in two?"
