Chapter 29 - Kamui

Ashan returned to his apartment and sprawled out on the sofa, glancing at Narasha. She was engrossed in a television program about wildlife, not sparing him a look.

'I can't believe she got addicted to watching television in such a short time. She didn't sleep last night.'

He gazed upward as the system store materialized before him.

'Wow... the system is killing it. To think it would offer me Obito's Mangekyou Sharingan. Now I have lots of points to buy anything I want. Should I buy only the strong ones and save my points? But it will reduce the chance of getting new things.'

He hesitated for a brief moment, then exhaled.

'Ah, screw it. Overthinking won't get me anywhere.'

Ashan purchased all the items, emptying the store.

New items will arrive after some time.

'..So it will take time to see new items. Waiting for a few days is not a problem at all.'

Ashan closed his eyes and reopened them, the Sharingan with Kamui patterns spinning silently.

He glanced at the picture hanging on the wall, double-checking that Narasha wasn't looking.

[Kamui]

Space warped. A silent vortex swallowed the picture, twisting it once before erasing it completely.

Narasha stiffened.

She snapped her head toward the wall. "...Huh?"

Her eyes widened. "The picture… it's gone."

She turned sharply toward Ashan.

He was sprawled on the sofa, arms behind his head, staring at the ceiling like a man with no worries in the world.

"…Did you do that?" she asked slowly.

Ashan blinked, then frowned in fake confusion. "Do what?"

"The picture," she said, pointing. "It vanished."

He followed her finger, squinted at the empty wall, then scratched his head.

"Was there something there? I honestly don't remember a picture."

Narasha stared at him.

"…You're lying."

Ashan picked up his phone, scrolling lazily. "About what? You might be imagining things."

She didn't reply. Slowly, she turned back to the television, but her attention was completely gone.

'My eyes don't lie,' she thought, unease creeping in.

'There was a picture. It didn't fall. It didn't break. It disappeared.'

'No mana fluctuation. No casting signs. Nothing.'

Her fingers tightened slightly on her lap.

'Ever since I met him… I haven't seen him use mana properly even once. Every skill he shows feels… wrong. Unknown.'

She exhaled quietly.

'What kind of man are you…?'

A faint sting of irritation stirred in her chest.

Ashan noticed it instantly. He put his phone aside and glanced at her.

She's upset. Damn it.. I rushed things just to test Kamui. I didn't expect her to notice that quickly. Pretending nothing happened might work, for now. But she'll learn the truth sooner or later. I need to deal with this properly.

He stood, walked over, and suddenly sat beside her, then gently laid his head on her lap.

Narasha flinched. "...Eh?!"

He took her hand and placed it against his cheek.

"Are you upset?" he asked softly. "I can feel it."

She turned her face away. "Why would I be? I don't care what you do."

Ashan wrapped an arm around her waist and buried his face against her stomach.

"I'm sorry. I was just fooling around using my abilities. I didn't think it'd bother you."

Her heartbeat quickened.

"…Don't misunderstand," she said, voice quieter. "I'm just curious."

He looked up. "Curious about what?"

"That ability," she said. "Was that your subspace skill?"

He shook his head. "No. For that, I need to touch the object."

Her brows knit together. "Then what was it?"

Ashan smiled. "Something better."

Ashan grabbed her hand and stood up, his Mangekyou Sharingan flared to life. "Come with me. I'll show you what it is."

"H-Hey…!"

Before she could protest, he pulled her toward the bedroom wall. They passed through the wall as if it didn't exist.

Narasha's mind went blank.

'What in the world happened? My body went through the wall. I didn't feel anything. No. My presence vanished from this world.'

Ashan grinned at her bewildered expression. "How is it? Isn't it so cool?"

Narasha looked at him, then the wall. "My physical form vanished in an instant. How did you do it?"

Ashan released her hand and entered the Kamui state again. "Using one of my unique skills, I can access a special state that separates my physical form from this world. Only my appearance remains here."

Narasha tried to touch his body, but her hand passed through. "This ability is truly outstanding. So you can use this as a defensive technique ."

Ashan nodded. "Yes, in this state, I'm intangible. Nothing in this world will be able to hurt me."

Narasha circled him. "I have a question. Are you using mana as your power source? When you use your skills, I don't feel mana from them."

Ashan smiled. "As expected, you felt it already. As you noticed, I'm not using mana to activate my skills. I use some other energies that you don't know of."

Narasha narrowed her eyes. "Of course. I don't know about them. Some energy you possess inside your body gives me bright and dark vibes at the same time. It confuses me."

Ashan's Sharingan faded. He clenched one hand, extending the other with spread fingers. One hand covered with cursed energy, the other formed a Rasengan.

"This black, formless energy is called cursed energy. And that shining, explosive sphere is made of an energy known as chakra. Cursed energy is born from negative human emotions, while chakra is a fusion of physical energy and spiritual energy.

Unlike mana, these energies are generated within me, they aren't absorbed from the surroundings. Both can be used to activate different kinds of abilities. I can even convert mana into these energies… and convert them back into mana as well."

Narasha examined his hands with great interest. "I never heard that negative emotions can be turned into an energy source. And about the chakra, isn't it like holy power since it uses spiritual power?"

Ashan shook his head. "No. It has nothing to do with holy power. It's a completely different form of energy."

Narasha hesitated, then asked, "Then… other than you, how many humans can use it?"

"None," Ashan replied without pause. "I'm the one who created these energies. I'm the first, and the only one."

Her eyes widened, breath catching. "You… created them? That's impossible. How can a single human achieve something like that? Are you a god or something?"

Ashan let out a quiet chuckle, a faint smirk forming on his lips. "I'm not a god, but I'm able to create skills and abilities."

A short pause.

"I'm a creator."
