The morning of day 205. Abi and Professor Kastner finished isolating the malfunctioning unit of the secondary water system. They restarted the secondary system. It functioned perfectly. One goal was done. Two remained.
They prepared to leave the water station. The supplies were packed. The vehicles were fueled. And at 9 AM, they drove of.
Around 3 PM, they reached the shipment location. After leaving their vehicles, all team members gathered. Egon told them to rest for the rest of the day, as they plan the tasks ahead.
After, they got into their trucks, Egon delivered the news of Wagner's death. It was a shock. But there was no time to grieve. Also they didn't care much about him.
They settled in. In Charlotte and Egon's truck, she asked about Wagner's death. "How did lose him?"
"One of the monsters got him,"
"So you finally saw one. Face to face." charlotte said
He stayed quiet for a second. "Yes."
"How was it?"
"It changes a man." Egon's calm demeanor surprised her. "It's not just fear. Fear came before, when you're waiting. The moment itself..." he searched for words. "It's... Vast. No harmless, but not what i thought either."
After a thoughtful silence, Charlotte spoke again. "I've been thinking... Do you think we can survive outside?"
"I don't know anymore." he said. "For the strongest of us? maybe."
At around 7 PM, Alfred arrived at the location. He left his vehicle and it to his truck, where he would spend this night. Now it was only him.
Inside his truck, Egon's voice came through the open communication channel. "Where is your brother-in-law?"
"Dead." Alfred answered.
"I'm sorry. Hope it was fast ans painless."
"Don't be," alfred said flatly. "He chose his way out."
No one spoke for a moment.
"Any word from the inside?" alfred asked, through the public channel.
"Nothing yet." Egon responded. "But don't lose hope. We'll hear them again."
