By 4 AM of day 204 Professor Kastner returned to the vehicles location. The vehicles had been moved. In their place, was a medium-sized pool of blood and a patch of vomit near wheel marks. He followed the marks to were the vehicles parked. Near them Alfred, was preparing dinner for the four of them.
"Evening," Kastner greeted.
"Evening, Professor," Egon replied.
"Where's the kid?" he asked.
Alfred looked up. "He wanted to be alone."
"And the blind man?"
"He didn't make it," Egon said flatly.
"I see." Kastner sat down beside them. Alfred continued cooking. The air smelled like chicken broth and curry.
"The unit is severely damaged," Kastner said. "We need a part that's stored in level 7, or perhaps in a warehouse in the city. But we couldn't pin which one."
"then it's plan B." Egon said. "Isolate the unit."
"we'll handle it first thing in the morning." Kastner asked. "Where exactly did Abi go?"
"That way." Egon pointed.
"I'll go check on him." Kastner got up and walked in that direction.
A while later, the car's radio beeped. Egon got the detachable radio transmitter from the vehicle and returned to Alfred's side. He answered the call.
"Go ahead." he said.
"Hi there, how's it going?" charlotte's voice came. "ready for daily updates?", she asked.
"sure. Progress report?"
"Loading's 25% complete."
"slow steps! you had any problems?"
"Yes, one. The emo man left today without a word."
Alfred got worried and so did egon.
"Only three are working." she followed
"when did he leave?" Egon asked.
"early morning. He took vehicles."
"did he say anything before he left." egon asked.
"did he ever?".
Alfred stepped in. "Don't worry about that. I'll find where he went. Just continue with your task."
"What about your work?" she asked.
Egon spoke to her. "Better than expected. We'll be back tomorrow before dusk."
"Also, still no signal from inside." she said.
"Keep trying," Egon said. "and if anything unusual happens, tell me immediately."
"copy that." she hung up.
Egon turned to Alfred. "What about your brother-in-law?"
Alfred replied, "I'll find him tomorrow. I know where he went. We'll both be at the loading site before you."
A while later, Kastner returned with Abi, and they all gathered for dinner, and the night passed.
