At 9 AM on day 200, they left the Hills site, driving 8 hours without pause towards the shipment. Some struggled to stay awake while others slept in the cabin's beds. Abi and Steffi passed the time playing Black Ops: Shadow Protocol 9, which somehow still had micro transactions after the fall of civilization.
Egon led the convoy. Charlotte, Wagner, and Alfred stayed awake Monitoring the vehicle's logs, while Monica scanned the passing scenery.
At 5 PM, roughly an hour before sunset, they decided to stop. A wide space with no trees or structures was chosen as camp site. Egon and Alfred left their trucks to check the check the perimeter. After a quick 5 to 10-minute, they returned and radioed the all-clear. They would camp here for the night, waiting for the light of dawn.
Before nightfall, Charlotte joined Egon's so no one would be left alone. They had their first meal of the journey: French military rations, an aid given to shelter's guard after the outbreak.
In Wagner's truck, the meal had a tough of ceremony. A table ascended from the floor of the cabin. Bunk beds were used as seats. Abi got the food for Wagner, Steffi, and himself from the back of the truck. Three ration packs, each containing two main dishes, beef dumplings, tuna, with fruit stew. Alongside the rations, A bottle of wine and three glasses were also selected. They used the heating unit to warm up their meals.
"Rather extravagant, it seems." Wagner remarked.
"There's nothing wrong with a touch of delicacy, in the midst of the apocalypse." Abi responded.
"You're not even 23." Wagner replied, "You shouldn't be okay with what you just saw. Where is the innocence?"
Steffi replied, "It died 7 months ago with the rest of the world.".
"Speak of yourself." Abi said. "I'm still a ten inside."
