Chapter 34 - Chapter 34 : First Level Up Boss

"Ahhhhhhh…"

Orion felt his soul was dragged out of him in under a minute. Turns out that the dread of upcoming death was much more painful than dying itself. And this was coming from a guy who had died more times in the past week than he did regular push-ups.

The fall was steep, and the ground giving away also added an element of surprise to his fall, making him scream like a little girl who lost her teddy at night.

Needless to say, freefall seemed like enough to send him back to the grave. Fortunately for him though, that didn't happen. Instead of being a straight fall to heaven, he ended up landing into multiple narrow interconnected tunnels inside the dungeon, whose sole purpose seemed to send him down somewhere (most likely at the boss fight, he presumed.)

And then, as soon as it started, the longest and the most terrifying slide of his life came to an end with him falling face first on a grass-filled place.

Orion grunted with irritation, looked around only to find nothing but stretch grasslands.

He knew that the Dungeon's lower levels consisted of ecosystems of their own, but no matter how he saw it, there was no way this place was in the dungeon.

As far as he could see, he couldn't see the end. Far stretch grasslands, with a beautiful clear blue sky. Clouds looking like cotton candy drifting lazily away with the gentle wind.

He sat up in a daze, for a second he thought he came to the countryside more than a boss layer.

[Intriguing]

Marika was baffled just as he was, looking around with dazed eyes, this almost reminded her of her hometown back in the Shaman's Village.

Oh how long it had been since she even thought about that place. After losing her mind, after divinity took over, she couldn't help but lose everything which once made her mortal.

From emotions to memories.

"So… you are the brave warrior who will face me in battle."

Orion jolted back to his feet, the beautiful scenery forgotten in an instant. He didn't even notice someone was behind him. As soon as he turned, he came face to face with a knight.

A black knight on his horse, with a great sword in his hand which he used with only one hand. The black metallic armor shined in the sunlight, giving the man a heroic image.

It would have been really heroic if not for the fact the knight was headless and was holding his own head in his other hand.

A darkish aura surrounded him, barely visible but felt nonetheless.

Orion already had his sword in his hand by reflex, because he could see the name on top of the knight. And as much as he had tested, only the boss enemies had their names displayed like that according to this system.

BELDIA : THE DARK KNIGHT

Orion read the name, trying to recall if he could figure out his origins, but nothing came to his mind at that instant.

The pause lasted a bit too long for the Knight, who couldn't take it anymore and asked again.

"Are you… are you the warrior who is here to face me in a life and death battle. If so then raise your sword… swordsman. I shall face you in battle." Beldia shouted, and instead of what Orion anticipated—that he'll charge at him on the horse—the knight actually came down, opting not to use the horse.

"That should make the fight fair, I do believe…"

'Fair? A boss monster thinking of a fair fight!' Orion didn't feel happy about it; if anything, he was more worried now seeing how confident the knight was.

'This one isn't a mindless one like the others. He's like Rick… but stronger, I can feel it.'

[Take heed Tarnished, this one is an undead]

'Gee thanks. I couldn't even tell by the man carrying his beheaded head…' Orion almost rolled his eyes.

Orion, before the fight started, did a quick look around. Honestly, the battle arena didn't suit the boss one bit. Fighting an undead knight should be in a dungeon core or dark castle, not here in this sunny peaceful grassland.

But besides that, he noted that there was indeed no one here. Only him and the knight.

'Not even minions! Does that mean the enemy is just that strong?' He pursed his lips even further and readied himself to stand.

Both didn't move for a while, sizing each other up until finally, like a thunder crackle inside both of their minds, they both moved simultaneously.

The Dark Knight charged with his huge great sword in one hand, at a speed almost impossible to move at if there was a real man inside holding that heavy sword plus the heavy armor.

As for Beldia, it seemed like the armor weighed nothing, that gravity didn't even affect him. He just charged.

[Hear me, O grace that circles eternity. Take shape, take edge, take judgment. Spin forth, return true—Discus of Light.]

Orion immediately started chanting, knowing it was an undead, holy attacks were his go-to.

However, he barely was done before Beldia was in front of him, swinging his huge sword at him. Orion timed his sidestep just in time and threw the newly made Discus of Light at the Dark Knight at almost point-blank range.

Dodging was not possible unless he also had intangibility like Orion.

Beldia seemed to notice the nature of the attack and instead of tanking it, used his giant broadsword's side as a makeshift shield to block.

Orion didn't care, physical defense was useless against the Discus anyway. And just as he thought, as soon as the Discus connected, it completely ignored the physical defense, attacking at the undead's core with holy magic.

"AHHHHHH…. It hurts, it hurts, it hurts."

"Huh ???"

Orion was readying himself for another Discus when he was thrown off upon seeing the dashing Black Knight roll around on the ground like a kid who got a scratch on him.

The image didn't match somehow….

He momentarily stopped his casting, giving the knight enough time to stand back up on his legs, now fuming.

"So… a god has your backing. No wonder you stand so reassured against one of the Demon King's generals… very well, human. I too shall not hold back anymore."

"Come forth, my royal soldiers, heed my call. Fight for your liege." the Dark Knight shouted, and before Orion could even know it, the peaceful place started to turn upside down.

The ground started to sprout out, rotten bodies covered with mucus and dark energy burst out from underground.

[Undeads…]

"Yeah, I saw." Orion gritted his teeth, eyes quickly roaming around to get a basic idea of their numbers.

"More than a hundred… approximately 300 or so."

'FUCK…'

He quickly turned around, running the other way before they surrounded him from all sides. At least it was better to face them coming after him from one side than everywhere.

[Hear me, O grace that circles eternity… Take shape, take edge, take judgment… Spin forth, return true—Discus of Light.]

He shouted the incantation while still running around, not even bothering how many were following him; by the footsteps, too many to look back.

He only turned around when the Discus of Light was completely formed in his hand, ready to be unleashed.

The Discus made of golden holy light flew towards the incoming horde of zombies, tearing a line of them to shreds, burning them on the spot as soon as it came in contact, going deeper until its range maxed out and then blasting into a spectacular golden explosion which took a bunch of undead with it.

'Good, that attack alone would have taken around 20 or so of them.' He grinned. However, what was 20 in a number of 300? He had to resume running since the others of their kind falling didn't stop the undead soldiers from chasing him.

'It's never gonna end this way…' He cursed, preparing for another Discus.

He ran around in circles, panting and running low on his magic but slowly chipping away at the undead's numbers.

"Discus of… ah… Light." He sent the last golden light towards the undead with all his power. The golden light shredded the undead soldiers, finally ending the minion raid.

He was one step away from mind down at this point.

"What the…" Huff huff… "hell was that." Huff…

He panted, feeling his lungs burning when he heard footsteps coming at him.

"Magnificent, you defeated all my undead soldiers. I have to commend you for that, warrior. However, the real fight is just starting now. Ready yourself, for true despair." Beldia the Dark Knight commended him, and then, to Orion's intrigue, threw his cut-off head up in the air.

"What!"

[Don't take your eyes off him!]

Orion barely registered the voice before he felt his body stiffen suddenly… his eyes widened.

'Magic?'

He looked around, only to find the knight was already next to him.

"You fought valiantly, warrior, however, the outcome of this battle is decided."

His dark eyes flashed before Orion's before he found himself falling down.

His head rolled, and darkness claimed him before he saw his own body headless, lying in a pool of his own blood.

Orion didn't even know what happened before he was gone…

xXx

A/N : Alright, without googling it, tell me which boss this is. I'm sure most wouldn't be able to say it. I wish to know.

And as its obvious, he has to beat a boss to level up, its similar to Orario's adventurers completing a big achievement before leveling up. The system just give him the obstacle in front of his level up path, just take away other options from the roaster...

By the way, what more in the roaster, you'll know after sending some stones over. Make sure you grab them hard and twist your body to throw them well... we wouldn't want them losing midway now do we....
