[1st POV]
I opened my eyes to stare at the strange ass ceiling of the new house.
And what can I say except I didn't like it one bit.
It was still too....unfamiliar.
It was my first morning at the new house, and well, I slept like shit.
Which was new, by the way. Even when the devils inside of me made a ruckus, even with my never-ending hunger, and even when I had witnessed people die and slaughtered more, I always slept well.
But I didn't sleep too well last night.
Having absolutely no clue about the future was scary. But it was much scarier when you are in the world of Chainsawman.
You know how dangerous it is, you know how fucked up it is, but you didn't know anything else.
You only know things you don't want to know.
Was this how people always feel?
Maybe Makima's words were still haunting me. Or maybe it was Reze's warning yesterday.
When I first came into the world, I had nothing. I cared for nothing. And it was easy back then. But now, after gaining so much and after caring, even for a little bit, about the people around me.
It was much harder.
The more alive you are, the more you dread death.
...
"....yawn...." I did not bother covering my mouth as I released a yawn.
I tasted my own morning breath for a bit. It kinda made me hungry because I could taste the remains of my midnight snack.
Who am I kidding?
I'm always hungry.
I got out of bed and made a beeline to the bathroom to freshen up. After brushing my teeth, washing my hair to get rid of the bed hair and cleaning my face, I headed out of the room and walked towards the kitchen.
The whole interior of the house was still unfamiliar, but I found my way to the kitchen by following the smell of food.
When I came upon the kitchen, I saw Aki and Reze.
"I can help,"
Reze said, standing idle in front of the kitchen counter while Aki was making breakfast. She was wearing comfy looking shorts and a shirt that was baggy but not really oversized.
"Just go and sit down," Aki said, his whole focus on the omelette he was making.
"But I can help,"
"And you can sit too, can you not?" Aki said, "I don't want your help,"
"...but why not,"
"..." Aki did not bother answering her. But Reze did not bother minding his silence either as she continued to stand there and watch him cook.
"Breakfast is the most important meal of the day," Aki said after a while, "And there's only one other person I trust beside me to make it,"
Aww, he's talking about me.
"I can cook well. I work in a cafe, you know," Reze insisted.
"Maybe you do," Aki said, "But there are four people you need to feed. You do not yet know what their preferences are,"
"See the frozen bacon I set out to thaw?" Aki said, gesturing to the tray with bacon, "That's for Power because she would rather eat you than eat vegetables. She only likes meat,"
"And Denji.....he will eat dirt if you serve it with a smile," Aki said, "And Jin..."
Reze perked up when he was about to reveal what I like, but Aki paused abruptly.
"...he likes food,"
Reze deflated.
"And dicks,"
"Hey!!" I yelled immediately, announcing my presence. Neither of them looked surprised though, as they had sensed my presence a long time ago, even if I tried to hide it. A reminder that they were not ordinary by any means.
"Morning, Jin," Aki said, shaking his pan to let the eggs cook softly under a candle of heat.
"Don't morning me," I said, heading to the table and taking a seat. Reze followed my action and finally came down to sit opposite me, facing me.
"Tell her it's a lie before she really starts having ideas," I said.
He chuckled, "I guess," he turned to Reze, "I am not sure, but as far as I know, he only eats a devil's-"
"That joke is seriously getting old. How long are you going to milk it and pretend it's funny the ninety-ninth time?"
"Well, as long as it irks you, it's funny,"
This fucking guy.
"Did you sleep well, Jin?" Reze asked, fortunately changing the subject.
"Like an owl. You?"
"I would say like a dolphin," she smiled.
"It can't be helped, I guess," I said. Fun fact, dolphins sleep with half their brain and cycle between hemispheres so that they don't drown while sleeping.
"How's the room anyway?"
"It's fine. Better than anything I've slept on, well, except one, I guess," she said.
We had small talks for a while. We've spent countless mornings together in her cafe so there was nothing awkward between us even though the environment and situation might have changed.
"You quit your job at the cafe?" I asked as Aki came and set cups on the table. I picked up one.
"Yes,"
"Just like that? How did your boss take it? FYI, Japan's kinda bit uptight about quitting jobs. It would be considered rude if you quit without at least a month's notice," I said.
"I didn't really care back then and just told him before I left," she said.
"You should care because-" I paused and finally looked at the contents of the cup, "Aki, is this fucking green tea?"
"Sorry, the house didn't come with groceries. That's all we have," he said from the kitchen.
"Unbelievable," I said, setting the cup back down and pulling at the tea bag.
In my tier list of beverages, water was neutral. Things like coffee were put above water and something like piss was below water. Hot water was also below water and green tea was basically just hot fucking water.
I'll let it cool and drink it.
It was around 7 in the morning when I woke up, or should I say when I left the bed. When the time was nearing 9, Denji and Power finally came to the kitchen.
Denji was not a morning person, but he was also responsible. He dragged Power behind him, who was still somehow sleeping, while she was dragged across the floor.
"Sup guys," he said, yawning and showing his shark-like teeth.
"Denji, what's up with her?" Reze points at the still sleeping Power. You could see her boobs with her dishevelled clothes. The girl was really careless.
"She climbed on my bed last night and wouldn't leave," he said, "I barely slept."
Denji tossed Power on the table carelessly. The table was big enough that her body only took up half of the area. Then Denji sat down beside me.
None of us bothered to wake her up. But when Aki finally set down the freshly fried bacon on the table, she woke up and sat down on the table and began eating like it was instinct.
That was normal.
For us at least. I sometimes forget how fucking weird everyone is.
After we finished breakfast, Aki, Denji and Power got back up into their room to get dressed for work. The Public Safety Commission had a uniform and all. On the other hand, I was pretty much always in uniform.
My shirts were wrinkled a bit because I wore it on bed, but I didn't care and just planned on wearing an overcoat over it.
But that's when we felt a presence on the door.
There was no knocking, no ringing doorbell, but Reze and I both turned towards the front door. The person was announcing her presence without doing a single thing.
"Stay here," I said to Reze and stopped her from getting up.
When I went and opened the door, the red hair was the first thing I saw.
"May I come in?" Makima asked with a smile that didn't look like a smile.
Her smiles, although they needed to be described as such in the book, were not really smiles. If you saw it, you would think that was the natural structure of her resting face. That was how ungenuine her smiles usually were.
"No," I said and closed the door on her face.
But she blocked the door from fully closing with one of her boobs. They squished like rubber on the door edge, giving me a pretty good idea where they were soft and when they were tight and fit.
The door bounced off her and opened again.
"I'm coming," she said, and sort of forcefully pushed herself inside the house.
She walked inside the house, looking around curiously as if sight seeing. I just sighed and closed the door. But not before looking around to see if she brought anyone else with her.
"How did you even find me?"
"You have a strong scent remember?" Makima said, "I'm just following the scary-smelling scent."
Right.
For some reason, I'm imagining her like a cartoon character that floats and follows the smell of good food. Like from tom and jerry you know.
Makima walked to the kitchen and I cautiously followed behind her.
When we both came back to the kitchen, Reze was standing near the table, fingers already inside the ring on her neck.
"Good to see you again, Reze," Makima said.
"Jin, what is she doing here?" Reze asked.
"Don't ask him. I'm here for you," Makima declared, the curve of her lips falling flat.
Slowly, she brought up her hand in the familiar gun signs. Her index pointed towards the general direction of Reze. As her hand rose, the tension did too.
I was ready too.
But then.
"Is that my tea?" Makima asked, smiling again as she pointed at the cup on the table. She went in front of Reze and picked up her cup and took a sip.
"It is," she said, "Aki must've used the tea bags I gave him. I love this,"
"You don't need to be so on guard. If I want you dead, you won't know it," Makima said.
They went into a staring contest. It was giving cat-fight energy. Like when cats raise their back and growl at each other.
In the end, Reze dropped her hand from her neck.
"I didn't like the tea, just so you know, I spat it back in the cup," she smiled, and Makima lost hers.
"Okayyyy..." I said, coming in between the two and separating them.
"No one's going to do anything to scar my new house," I said, "Makima, take a seat."
I offered my previous seat that was opposite to Reze. We all quietly sat down, as I took a seat beside Reze this time.
"So what are you actually here for?" I asked.
"As I said, I'm here for her," she said, gesturing towards Reze. She took out a file from the coat she was wearing and pushed it towards us. "I'm here for this."
Reze picked up the file and read it. I leaned in to read too and was shocked. I had to do a double-take.
"I want her in the Special Division 4," she said.
"Are you serious?" I said and took the file from Reze to carefully read the documents again. "I thought you hated her?"
"I don't hate anyone, Jin. Just not very fond of things that get in my way," Makima said, "And as for why I offered her the position, it's because she's strong. And right now, that's what I need,"
"What if I refuse to be your dog?" Reze asked.
"You can't refuse," Makima said, dead serious. Hypnotic eyes staring straight at emerald like it was some mind control device.
"Your superiors must be restless about you. You need to throw a bait to calm them down, or else they'll force you back, or worse, they'll send someone after you," she said, "What better way to redeem your glorious failure than to tell them that you got into the Public Safety Commission?"
"Plus, I only want what you want. And that is to protect Jin and eradicate all dangers that will come to him," she said.
"Jin's powers and existence are all but an open secret among the big players. Undoubtedly, even China, America, France and Britain will come for him. And I don't think they will be too subtle about it either, from the way they are pressuring the Japanese government,"
"They will send their best," Reze said.
"So it's a win-win," Makima said, "And I know you don't like me, but I went through too much trouble for this opportunity for you to deny. Your fake identity was suspicious at best," Makima said.
Reze went silent for a while before saying, "Fine, I'll do it."
I literally could not believe what I was seeing. After Reze accepted, Makima turned to me and flashed a smile.
Was she doing this to earn favor from me? If she did, it's working.
"Jin knows what to do, so just follow him for today." Makima said and got up.
"Thank you for having me. I'll see you in the afternoon."
And she left just like that.
...
"It doesn't matter if she can control us or not if she controls everything else," Reze said after Makima left, "I see why you like her."
"Well..." I said, not knowing what to say, and just scratching the back of my head. I didn't predict this outcome at all.
Honestly, I should've predicted that, considering I could never predict Makima. It's easy to predict that she will do something I don't predict.
"Did you really drink the tea and spit it back out in the cup?" I asked instead.
"Yes," Reze said simply.
She then turned to me with a smile that bordered a shy grin. Her cheeks were a little flushed too.
"It was for you though,"
Insane. Unhinged. Straight up fucking weird.
That's what chainsawman girls were.
If this keeps going on, I might just end up picking Aki.
There should be gender surgery devil or something, right? I mean, the fear of someone turning me into a girl while I am asleep is a pretty big fear.
Wait, but will turning him into a girl make him weird, too?
Wait, what am I even thinking?
