[1st POV]
The sparks lit up the dark room.
And I braced myself for the inevitable explosion. My heart was no longer in my chest. it had fallen to the bottom of my stomach.
And that was not just words stitched together to convey my feelings. I meant that literally.
I had moved my heart to the bottom of my stomach. As a hybrid, my heart was the weakest part of my body, so of course, I wasn't going to let her set off an explosion right on it. That would be the height of stupidity
Love? Emotions? Feelings? Really?
Fuck that, I'm trying to survive here.
But much to my surprise, the sparks were only just that. Sparks.
They lit up my dark room in yellow light before they faded away, doing nothing except maybe burning the top layer of my skin.
"...haaa..." Reze released a small breath before I saw her face break right in front of my eyes.
To be completely honest, I never knew a face could fit that much emotion. Regret, disgust, heartbreak, anger, love, and then hate. All those contradicting emotions painted her face vulnerable.
And then they materialised in tears that fell from her eyes and then on my cheek.
I remembered vaguely how Denji suffered from feeling things after he became a hybrid. He couldn't cry when people died around him. He thought he had lost his heart at one point.
But I guess Reze in this moment was proof that hybrids could cry.
We were more than just living weapons.
Her transformation became undone. The black fabric that fused with her skin dissolved until it revealed her bare skin. The developing helmet on her head disappeared too, making her hair fall to cover parts of her face.
I released a breath I did not know I was holding and slowly moved back my heart to its original location. There, she could feel the pulsating rhythm of my heart.
"I'm a spy working for the USSR," she said, her voice cracking. It was like her throat resisted while her lungs wanted to push those words out from her chest.
"I know," I replied simply.
"I was sent here to kill you," she said again.
"I know," I replied again.
"You were my target from the very start," she said again.
"I know," I replied again.
A small pause.
"Kill me then," she said.
"Then kill me," I said in return.
"I can't," she said and then pushed her hand even harder, caving my chest a bit, "But I wish I could,"
"I can," I said in return, our answers differ, "But I won't."
"And why not?" she asked.
I reached out my hand, the same hand that held her gift. Part of the reason why I let her do as she liked was that I knew she wouldn't actually do it. She wouldn't actually kill me. Her explosions would destroy this new watch anyway, so what would be the point of giving it to me.
She had made her choice from the very start. This gift was meant so that I would remember her.
My hands held her face, pushing away her hair and cleaning the wetness caused by her tears. And for a moment, I just took in what I had done to her.
From my side of the story, our relationship had been amusing at best. A side plot that added to the background of my life. She was a character I liked in my past life, and just as I did with almost every major character from the show, I kept her close.
But from her side of the story, I meant everything.
Did I love her?
No.
I like her. I like the lies that she spun around us. I like the part where she tried to play her games even though I knew everything. Because, unlike Makima, whom the anime had not covered, I knew Reze's story. Where it starts and where it ends in tragedy.
"I think you know why," I said to her.
And that was why I was able to get so close to her. I was in control of everything the whole time.
Maybe it was not love, but it could be one day.
"But I lied to you," she said.
"You didn't," I said, "You tried, but you didn't"
"Not even for a while?" she tilted her head.
"Not even for a moment," I shook my head.
And then ever so slowly, her body collapsed into mine. Her tense body relaxed into something that felt like liquid. It was like all the energy had been drained from her body.
I wrapped my arms around her, hugging the poor girl on my chest.
"Jin," she said after a while.
"Hmm?"
"Run away with me," she said.
I felt my heart skip a beat. I think she felt it too.
"Where would we go?" I asked.
"Far. Somewhere far away from everything," she said, "To the ends of the earth if we can. I want us to run away so far that I leave everything behind,"
She pushed herself up again, sitting on me.
"There, we can start anew. We can build our relationship for real. We will build it upon truth, no more lies. I don't want anything to be fake anymore," she said, begging but not with a begging tone or voice.
I stayed silent, staring at her.
So she added.
"Let me love you for real,"
...
Say yes.
Fucking say yes.
The proposal came at the perfect time. My knowledge of the anime was nearly coming to an end. I did not know from here on what would happen. Running away from it all sounded like the best decision.
I was already strong enough to stay alive and survive. I need not do more. I could carve my own paradise in this messed up world. And I could do that with her.
She had proven herself in my mind. Proven herself how much I meant to her.
She didn't even try to kill me, and she did that to Denji in the movie.
Maybe it was because we've known each other for so much longer that I meant more to her than he ever did. Or ever will.
But....
There is no but.
"Yes, Reze," I said, "I'll run away with you,"
I saw her eyes brighten with surprise and her face, which was so used to tragedy and fake smiles, produced a real smile that was overflowing with euphoria. Perhaps for the first time.
A character that was never supposed to exist running away with a character that was supposed to die soon.
I reckoned there wouldn't be a problem with that.
The world of chainsawman can continue as it was supposed to be. It still had all its important players after all.
And Aki would survive; he had a part of me with him now. With our new contract, I could be there in crises, like when they finally fought the Gun Devil.
And even if he died, his fate after death was already in my hands.
There was no loss.
"Let's run away," I said.
"Let's run away," she said.
She leaned down and we kissed.
.
.
And suddenly.
The world was on fire.
*Ting!!*
*BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!!!*

[3rd POV]
"Are you sure this information is legit?"
Asked Akane Sawatari.
She was a former civilian Devil Hunter who eventually found herself working for the United States of America.
In the anime, it was shown that she led a group of Yakuza to attack the Public Safety Commission, specifically the Special Divisions of Tokyo.
She and her group used guns to kill the Devil Hunters. When she was eventually defeated and questioned, she said that she got the guns by making a contract with the Gun Devil.
But how could that be? Later in the manga, it was revealed that the Gun Devil was already dead and its body parts were split among different countries. 20% of its body was held by America, 28% by the Soviet Union, 11% by China and 4% by other countries. The remaining 37% was held or eaten by various devils around the globe.
So how could a dead Devil form a contract with Akane Sawatari? The answer was never given in the manga and remained as a kind of plot hole for the fans.
But the truth is, Akane Sawatari was an agent working for the United States of America. The Gun Devil excuse was an overdone excuse given by all countries when they caused terrorism in other nations.
Like a sinner blaming the Devil. Saying the Devil made me do it.
It was the Gun Devil. The Gun Devil caused the chaos. The Gun Devil killed all the people. It was Gun Devil who should be held responsible.
In reality, they were using the already dead Gun Devil as a scapegoat.
Akane Sawatari was also said to be the one who turned the grandson of a yakuza into the Hybrid Katana Devil. But how could a simple former civilian do that? How could a bunch of Yakuza do that? Turning someone into a hybrid required careful surgery and many experimentation.
But knowing that she was working for the USA, that fun little fact also made sense.
"The information is solid. We've checked multiple times over," the man sitting beside her in the empty room said.
"This is a lot to process," Akane said, "To think the Pig Devil was that powerful. I can see why it must be exterminated, not only for America but also for the sake of the whole world,"
"And to add to that, the Soviet Union has a spy. The Bomb Devil hybrid," Akane continued, "Why they would use such a powerful tool as a simple spy is beyond me."
"And your mission is to kill both of these targets while also weakening the Japanese Public Safety Commission as much as possible," the man said.
"With the new supplies, that wouldn't be too hard," Akane replied thoughtfully, "The Yakuza always hated the Public Safety Commission because the government used these Devil Hunters to hunt them and reduce their influence. We can simply use their thirst for revenge."
"The Japanese will kill their own," the man nodded.
The Japanese Country was one of the strongest in the world. In this universe where devils and Devil Hunters were always linked with the military, even America has to seriously consider them as proper rivals.
Especially when they had a guardian in the form of the Control Devil.
Her main job in the anime was to weaken the Japanese forces and steal Chainsawman's heart using the weapon supply and the Yakuza she had under her. But with Jin's existence, things had changed a bit.
"Remember, Akane, we need you to act as fast as possible. It's safe to assume that the same person who sold us information about the Pig Devil's ability will have done the same with the other countries. We need to act before the others. In case they failed, the Japanese government will be on guard," he said.
One would think that that would be a good thing. It's an opportunity to let the other countries accomplish the same goal they want without them having to expend their resources.
But this time, the extermination of the Pig Devil needed to be the top priority. America did not want to trust the other countries at all. If they failed, it could be the doom for the world.
"Weakening the Japanese forces is no longer the priority, and neither is our war against the Soviet Union. It is killing the Pig Devil and the Bom Devil hybrid,"
"Jin Nakahara is the Pig Devil. He is currently working as a Devil Hunter and the captain of the Special Division four," Akane said, touching her head, "Luckily, my background helps me a bit with this specific mission."
"And the Bomb Devil?"
Akane showed a smile, "You wouldn't believe it if I told you. But knowing her identity now will make things much easier,"
"So when will you make your move?" the man asked.
"I always planned on attacking in the morning when all the Devil Hunters are out on patrol and easy to find. But if Jin Nakahara is the priority then..."
"Tomorrow," Akane said, "Tomorrow night,"

Fair enough. Here's your extra chapter
Author : Is the explanation too complciated for non manga readers? I've added much to the original story. No changes in the story per se, I only added a bit more context to it and used plot holes to make a twist.
Bascially, the Soviet Union is not the only one whom Makima snitched so America is trying to kill the Pig Devil too.
Its not just Reze that means.
