Chapter 162 - Chapter 162: This Lady Is Finally Retiring!

Magic roared around Harry, a crimson sheen of arcane light wrapping his entire body. Even the air beside him warped violently under the pressure of it.

Cloaked in that blazing glow, he kicked himself straight into overdrive, ready to wipe out the Chitauri's main force at maximum speed so he could go support the Sorcerer Supreme.

After all, facing several interdimensional demon gods at once—even Harry was a little worried.

Not worried about the Sorcerer Supreme's safety, though. With her level of power, even against multiple interdimensional demon gods, as long as she played it smart she wouldn't die—at worst she'd get seriously injured.

What Harry was truly worried about was that she'd use this chance to drop everything and quit on the spot.

Because the Sorcerer Supreme had been wanting to step down for a long time!

Harry's strength was already building nicely—if he took over, he could at least keep a normal Monday–Friday sort of schedule—but that still wasn't enough!

His ultimate goal was to completely lie flat and dump every "dimension invasion" problem onto underlings.

So he really didn't want the Sorcerer Supreme retiring early and ruining his plan—forcing him into full-time corporate-drone life ahead of schedule.

What, you think the Sorcerer Supreme might actually be in mortal danger against several interdimensional demon gods?

Are you kidding?

With that old legend's strength, plus the triune protection of the Vishanti, forget demon gods fighting outside their home dimensions—she could even throw hands with someone as monstrous as Mephisto inside Hell itself and still retreat in one piece, as long as the fight didn't drag on too long.

That was the charm of the Ancient One: the world's strongest sorcerer, hated by countless interdimensional demon gods… who could do absolutely nothing about her.

Magic was the foundation of a sorcerer. The more power you could draw and command, the stronger your spells became.

A gigantic purple array bloomed with Harry at its center and expanded outward, swallowing a hundred-meter radius.

The violet radiance washed over every Chitauri in the zone—and in the next instant, gravity spiked dozens of times over. The Chitauri didn't even have time to scream; their bodies were crushed under the horrifying pressure into puddles of gore.

After clearing the ground troops, Harry shot upward, accelerating toward the portal.

Along the way, countless green and blue beams of magic lanced out, striking Leviathan after Leviathan.

Any massive Leviathan that got hit was destroyed instantly.

Some were broken down—most of the hull reduced into molecules too small for the naked eye to see. Others were pierced straight through by blinding arcs of lightning.

By the time Harry reached the lowest edge of the wormhole, he'd already wiped out the vast majority of Leviathan warships. Only a few scattered survivors fled in terror, not daring to challenge him, sprinting for the far distance like animals escaping a natural disaster.

Harry didn't bother chasing the stragglers. The Avengers had more than enough firepower left to mop them up.

He was about to plunge into open space and destroy the Chitauri mothership when he spotted something that made his eyes narrow—

A huge number of red portals were forming in space.

Hell demons poured out in a steady stream, assembling in orbit and forming a protective ring around the Chitauri mothership.

It was Mephisto's handiwork, obviously. As long as they didn't enter the guardian array, the hell demons wouldn't suffer a second round of weakening—meaning their current strength was several times greater than ordinary Chitauri soldiers.

They weren't here only to protect the mothership so it could keep birthing Chitauri troops and feeding them into Earth.

They were also stockpiling power.

If the Sorcerer Supreme fell into a disadvantage against the interdimensional demon gods, these demons would slam the guardian array at full force, break through, and invade Earth.

Fortunately, Harry had noticed early—because if the demons were allowed to build up enough momentum, it would become a nightmare.

But staying in overdrive came with a cost. Harry's condition kept deteriorating.

"Deteriorating," in this case, meant his control was visibly slipping while his raw magic power kept rising—shooting upward in a straight line.

He was already on the verge of losing control.

And that was enough.

More than enough for him to face the entire demon host alone.

His flying cloak fluttered behind him like living wings, carrying him as he pushed faster and faster.

Inside Earth's atmosphere, air resistance capped the cloak at about Mach 2.

Out in space, there was no resistance at all—so Harry's speed skyrocketed. In just a few seconds, he hit an absurd Mach 10.

As he became a silver-white bolt of lightning and screamed toward the Chitauri mothership, both the Chitauri and the demons finally realized he was coming.

Inside the mothership's control room, the Chitauri leader spotted Harry charging straight at them. He bared his teeth in a savage grin and sneered:

"One guy? And he dares come up here? Fire the main cannon!"

He'd heard the title "controller of chaos magic," sure—but with his limited understanding, he thought it just meant someone like Thor… or maybe even weaker. He never considered what that title meant on a higher level.

On Earth, if he were leading only a small squad against the controller of chaos magic, maybe he'd hesitate.

But right now? Behind him were countless powerful hell demons—and a cosmic fleet that could casually erase a weak planet.

Many against one. Strong against weak.

Wasn't this a guaranteed win?

The operator didn't dare waste time. He thrust his hand forward and slammed the main cannon activation button.

Deep inside the mothership, machinery groaned as the main gun rotated. The dark muzzle aligned with Harry's position and began charging slowly.

But the moment the operator hit the button—

Everything went to hell.

A sharp, barbed claw snapped in from the side. A demon lord seized the operator and hoisted him into the air like a toy.

The operator's eyes bulged in terror. Before he could even cry out, a blood-soaked mouth several meters wide opened and shut as the demon lord roared:

"Turn the main cannon off, you brainless idiots! Is your skull filled with lava?! Don't you know the controller of chaos magic can open portals?!

And you ignorant insects—when I saw him, even I damn near jumped. And you idiots attacked him head-on? Do you really think numbers mean anything against a powerhouse at that level?!"

The atmosphere in the control room flipped instantly. The Chitauri leader finally realized something was wrong.

At the same time, frantic shouting erupted behind him. He turned—and saw a succubus using magic to send an urgent contact request to Mephisto.

The moment the connection went through, the succubus lost every bit of her usual composure and screamed for help:

"My lord! Harry Potter has left Earth—he's charging the Chitauri mothership!"

She didn't dare beg Mephisto directly. Even if she was his lover, she was still disposable to him.

All she wanted was to report Harry's position. With Mephisto's personality, he would absolutely come deal with Harry—then, as planned, kill the Sorcerer Supreme in front of Harry's eyes.

Only then would they have a chance to survive this war.

As for why every demon here feared Harry so much—

Because they had once been part of a fragment of Hell that Harry destroyed.

Before that fragment was annihilated, Mephisto transferred them away and claimed them as assets of his dimension.

And because they weren't natives of Mephisto's domain, they were sent into this war against Kamar-Taj as cannon fodder.

Several powerful demon lords stared forward, terror overflowing from their eyes.

They would never forget that day.

A mysterious wizard appeared in Hell without warning. Then crimson light erupted—laws shattered, everything was redefined from the ground up.

Not long after, that fragment of Hell was reduced to ash in a torrent of overwhelming magic, vanishing completely.

Back in the mothership control room, the Chitauri leader watched these mighty demon lords panic, and confusion—along with a cold, creeping dread—finally bloomed in his chest.

These were powerful demon lords. By all logic, they shouldn't be afraid of any approaching challenge.

So why were they like this?

Was the controller of chaos magic truly that terrifying?

He didn't understand.

But very soon, he would empathize with the demon lords on a deeply personal level.

Damn it… who's the demon here?!

Not far from Earth, inside the Mirror Dimension, Mephisto received his subordinate's desperate warning.

He didn't look panicked.

He looked happier.

Because in his mind, he'd already won.

Mephisto looked ahead.

Beside the corpse of a massive demon—kilometers across—stood a figure in yellow monk's robes, suspended in the cosmic void.

Her presence was still terrifying… but the arrays around her flickered and dimmed without stopping, making it obvious she was running on fumes.

Mephisto's huge demonic form loomed behind several other titanic demons as he mocked:

"Ancient One. I didn't think you'd dare fight us outside Earth. Well, look at you now—no way back, is there?

Today, I'll kill you right in front of that damned Harry Potter!"

The Ancient One's face was severe. She forced her voice to stay calm.

"Mephisto, even if I die, you still won't be able to invade Earth. Harry is more troublesome than I am. One day, you might even be killed by him for good."

Mephisto's expression sank. What she said was entirely possible—Harry was far more obnoxious than the Ancient One.

Damn it. If Harry gained authority over the trinity guardian array, Mephisto would never again be able to develop influence on Earth and harvest premium souls.

Mephisto launched another assault, trying to shatter this Mirror Dimension battlefield as quickly as possible—then kill the Ancient One in front of Harry Potter.

First, revenge on that cursed Harry Potter.

Everything else could wait.

What Mephisto didn't notice was that while the Ancient One appeared to be fighting with everything she had, she was subtly shifting the battlefield—nudging their position toward where Harry was in the real world.

She looked exhausted to the bone.

But inside, her heart was bursting with joy, one thought echoing again and again:

"Hahahaha… it's been over a thousand years. I'm finally going to retire!"
