Chapter 90 - Chapter 90: Gwen

(Just giving Gwen abilities—she's a sorcerer, not Spider-Woman, and she definitely won't wear matching couple outfits with Peter, waa~)

Night fell like ink, thick and velvety as it spread out, gently wrapping the small grove in darkness. Moonlight slipped through gaps in the dense canopy, scattering a carpet of shattered silver across the ground.

Gwen's hand was held tightly in Harry's as he led her into the quiet woods.

Her heartbeat pounded like a drum—nervousness and anticipation tangled together, every step landing on a fluttering unease.

Thoughts churned in her mind. She couldn't guess what Harry wanted to do, yet she could faintly sense that whatever was about to happen would leave an indelible mark on her life.

She was a little excited, a little afraid—but she would never refuse.

Before she realized it, they had stopped beneath a broad, leafy tree. The world around them was so still that she could hear only their breathing.

Harry slowed to a halt and turned to face her. He looked straight at Gwen, and there was a trace of nerves in his eyes too.

Under Gwen's expectant gaze, he hesitated. His throat bobbed once, then he finally gathered his courage.

"Gwen… there's something I've been wanting to find a chance to tell you."

Gwen's heart sped up, like a lively fawn crashing around inside her chest.

A醉人 blush climbed over her face in an instant. She nodded lightly, her voice carrying a faint tremble as she hummed softly.

"Mmm-hmm~"

That sweet, soft reply seemed to heat the air around them.

Time felt frozen, each second stretched thin. After a few long beats, Harry took a deep breath and stepped closer, lowering his voice.

"Gwen, actually… I'm a sorcerer."

A moment ago, Gwen had been thinking about how to accept Harry's confession without losing her composure—how she should respond if he leaned down to kiss her.

She was just about to say yes…

But when she finally processed what he said, she froze on the spot.

"Huh? What did you say?" Gwen's rosy lips parted slightly, pale under the moonlight, and she stared blankly, stunned.

"Actually, I'm a sorcerer," Harry repeated.

"Wait—you mean a sorcerer? Like the kind in stories… who can cast mysterious spells?"

"That's right…"

Worry spread over Gwen's face. She reached out with pale fingers and pressed them lightly to Harry's forehead, anxious.

"Are you running a fever or something? Why are you saying things that don't make any sense?"

Harry took her hand—without arguing—and simply swept his other hand through the air.

Space seemed to peel open, like a curtain being pulled aside. From a pocket dimension, he drew out a wand, letting it float calmly in midair.

Facts spoke louder than words. No matter how much Gwen wanted to doubt it, after she searched carefully and still couldn't find any "magic trick" flaw, she finally believed him.

She gasped. "Harry… you're actually a sorcerer!"

Harry smiled, using magic to block off the surrounding sound.

"That's right. Remember when Tony went missing last time? I'm the one who saved him. That's why, to thank me, he gave me a huge amount of shares."

"So that's what happened." Gwen's eyes lit up. She was naturally bright and cheerful, and anything mysterious and unknown filled her with intense curiosity. She immediately blurted out, eager beyond patience.

"Then… do I have a chance to become a sorcerer too?"

"I think we can test it. And I think you have pretty outstanding magical talent."

"Then what are we waiting for? Hurry—let's do it!" Gwen's excitement flushed her cheeks red.

Harry's expression turned focused. A magical array formed between his hands in the air, and he spoke patiently.

"Gwen, listen to me. In a moment, don't resist at all—cooperate with me completely.

When my magic enters your body, it might feel uncomfortable at first. It could even sting a little.

But don't be scared. If you grit your teeth and endure it, once you adjust to that power, the magic will start to slowly reshape your body.

When that happens, you'll feel warmth spreading through you… a strange, unfamiliar tingling."

Gwen nodded seriously, showing she understood.

Harry slowly reached out and placed his palm against the center of Gwen's chest, over her sternum.

A magical array that glowed with golden light appeared just in front of his hand. Then, under Harry's precise control, threads of chaos magic flowed gently and slowly into Gwen's body.

In an instant, Gwen felt an unfamiliar force pushing in.

At first, the discomfort was only faint—but it quickly intensified as more of that force entered, becoming hard to bear.

This was completely different from what Harry had said. There was no comfort at all, let alone that "tingling warmth."

Harry lied!

Gwen puffed her cheeks.jpg

Harry was surprised too. When his magic—moving in the unique Kamar-Taj array pattern—traveled through Gwen's body, she absorbed only half of it.

The result made Harry's mouth twitch. This talent level was, sure, a bit better than Uncle Ben and Peter's… but it was still painfully mediocre.

A bad feeling rose in him.

Could it be that Gwen, like Peter, could only be some crude close-range bruiser?

Harry shook his head. Seeing the eager hope on Gwen's face, he comforted her.

"Don't worry. I know a lot of different kinds of magic. If this one doesn't work, there's another."

As he spoke, Harry took a deep breath and changed the way his magic circulated, guiding it through Gwen's body using the wizarding world's distinctive method.

But this time the absorption was even worse than with Kamar-Taj—less than one percent.

Then he quickly switched his magic's nature, changing it into the lightning magic he had researched. The result was the same.

Finally, he even tried Asgardian magic. The absorption was a little better… but still far from acceptable.

Noticing Harry's ugly expression, Gwen immediately grew tense. Disappointment crept into her voice.

"Harry… do I not have any magical talent? Am I not able to become a sorcerer?"

Harry inhaled slowly, refusing to give up.

"Don't worry. There's still one last system. We still have a chance."

He guided several spells he had obtained from the fate-weaving web, letting the magic circulate through Gwen's body in those patterns.

Fate-weaving web magic was special. Apart from Peter, only Harry—who possessed chaos magic—could use it. Other people's compatibility was usually extremely low.

Just as Harry was sinking into disappointment, losing hope, and preparing to research something specifically suited to Gwen…

The test result shocked him.

The magic he injected into Gwen's body seemed to find its way home, getting absorbed at an unprecedented speed—without a single trace of loss.

Harry's breathing instantly turned rapid.

He realized in astonishment—Gwen's compatibility with fate-weaving web magic was far beyond imagination!

——————

After Gwen was confirmed to have shocking talent for fate-weaving web magic, a month passed in the blink of an eye.

That night, after dinner at Gwen's house, Harry and Gwen made their relationship official. From then on, the two grew closer and closer, their feelings quietly warming faster with each day.

During that month, besides spending time with Gwen, Harry also built an entire magic system for her—one based on the fate-weaving web.

The inspiration for this system came from the extraordinary abilities of the Spider-Men across the multiverse.

Its foundational abilities included wall-crawling, super strength, super endurance, super speed, super neural reflexes, regenerative healing, and spider-sense.

However, perhaps because Gwen had not been bitten by a mutated spider like Peter—altering her genes—

Even with fate-weaving web magic, her physical abilities still had a noticeable gap compared to Peter.

But because she hadn't been bitten by a mutated spider, Gwen also wasn't bound by the fate-weaving web. She existed outside its rules, holding more possibilities.

She didn't need to be confined by a predetermined framework of destiny. She could freely explore her own path.

And the most beneficial part was this: while exploring the fate-weaving web, Harry had made a series of other discoveries.

He successfully analyzed many spells—full-body electrification, invisibility, machine manipulation, and more…

Yet Peter couldn't use any of them. He had an instinctive rejection toward powers outside his own set.

Aside from borrowing Harry's magic to strengthen what he already had—like boosting strength, speed, and spider-sense—he couldn't wield any new abilities.

Gwen was completely different. In the domain of fate-weaving web magic, she displayed astonishing talent.

No matter what bizarre, strange spell Harry extracted from the fate-weaving web, she could master it with ease.

That didn't necessarily mean she would be stronger than Peter—

But her abilities would absolutely be more comprehensive.

Creak, creak, creak~

Hearing the sound of a window opening next door, Harry instinctively lifted his eyes. He understood immediately—his friendly neighborhood Spider-Man was back.

He pushed open his own door and raised his hand to knock on Peter's.

But one second, two seconds… time slid by, and there was no response at all.

Harry frowned slightly, puzzled. He used an unlocking charm to open the door and stepped inside.

In the dim room, a sharp burnt stench mixed with the sewer's unique rotten reek. The moment Harry entered, his eyes locked onto Peter, slumped on the bed.

As expected—something had happened to Peter.

The usually high-spirited superhero now had his face smeared with a layer of black grime. It was hard to tell whether it was soot and smoke, or scorched traces.

His hair was plastered messily to his forehead, damp—whether from sweat or filthy water, who knew.

As for the high-tech suit on his body, it was unrecognizable. It was covered in dense claw marks and bite impressions, as if some vicious beast had gone mad tearing at him. Large sections of the surface had been shredded away, exposing internal wiring and components—some of them still crackling with sparking current.

Harry quickly stepped forward, crouched down, and carefully checked Peter's condition.

Soon, he found swelling and reddened marks on Peter's arms, legs, and other places—injuries left by explosions.

None of the wounds were fatal, but they were more than enough to limit Peter's movement for a while.

This was clearly the first time Peter had been hurt this badly.

After confirming Peter was out of danger, Harry exhaled in relief. Then he raised his brows and teased him.

"Well, well—look who it is. Why's our superhero looking so miserable? What, did a supervillain bully you?"

Faced with Harry's mockery, Peter didn't snap back like he usually would. He spoke with his head down, voice low.

"Harry… lately, a lot of lizard-men have shown up in the sewers. They're strong, fast, and their leader can even use bombs. I can't beat them.

And the worst part is… they're slaughtering innocent bystanders. Even though I tried my best to stop them, a lot of people still died."

Harry immediately thought of the radiation incident from before. That time, it wasn't just spiders that were irradiated—other small animals were too, including lizards.

So if Peter got bitten by an irradiated spider and became Spider-Man…

Could someone have been bitten by an irradiated lizard and become a lizard-man?

Calming the noise in his mind, Harry comforted Peter.

"That's not your fault. A lot of people were saved because of you. You can't save everyone."

Peter's mood still didn't lift.

"I know… but I can't accept it. Too many people died right in front of me."

Harry thought for a moment. "Want help?"

Peter didn't refuse. "Of course. My brother—if possible, I think we need to deal with those damn lizards as soon as we can."

Harry nodded slightly.

"Alright. But right now, what you need most is rest. Tomorrow, after we recover and recharge, we'll think about it again."

Peter nodded.

After leaving Peter's room, Harry returned to his own. Before he could even sit down, an urgent ringtone suddenly exploded from his phone.

He picked it up. The caller ID made him freeze for a moment.

He pressed to answer. From the receiver came Tony's slightly weary voice.

"Harry… please come over. I need your help."
