Chapter 48 - Chapter 48: Fate Weaves Its Web

Inside the Kamar-Taj training chamber, Harry closed his eyes as his aura slowly settled into stillness.

He shut out every distraction from the outside world and focused his entire consciousness inward, opening himself to a deeper spiritual sight.

As his awareness sank, he saw his own soul—and within it, the ever-churning sea of chaos.

Part of that chaos was gentle and calm, as placid as a deep well, ready to move at Harry's slightest thought.

The other part was disordered and restless, constantly surging and raging—that was the portion of magic he still couldn't control.

When he'd lent power to the young witches and wizards in the wizarding world, Harry hadn't gained much useful knowledge.

But after lending power to Tony, Harry finally understood the true value of lending.

Lately, he'd been constantly receiving little bits of magical knowledge from Tony. Those bits weren't a complete system and weren't as overwhelmingly powerful as the Ancient One's teachings, but they belonged to a field Harry didn't understand at all.

They were pieces of a brand-new framework that connected technology and magic.

Using this knowledge, Harry had come up with a new idea.

Chaos magic was already like a wish-granting machine, infinitely malleable.

So why not use chaos magic as the raw material, and Tony's shared knowledge as the technology, to build a magical artificial intelligence?

A "program" that would link him to all of his borrowers—an AI similar to JARVIS, that could help him construct spell arrays and handle all lending-related affairs.

As long as he only had a few borrowers, he could manage everything himself. But once the number grew past a certain point, just dealing with lending alone would cost Harry a huge amount of time and attention.

That's when an automatic lending AI would really shine.

With a thought, part of Harry's chaos magic condensed into tangible 0s and 1s, drifting above the surface of the sea of magic.

Countless 0s and 1s came together into a multicolored orb of light. Following the basic principles of computer architecture, he used chaos magic to construct a central processing unit, memory, and other components, and then built an artificial intelligence using fragments of JARVIS's source code.

Several hours later, the glowing orb was finally complete.

Right now, its functions were limited. It wasn't anywhere near JARVIS-level intelligence. All it could do was automatically draw runes according to its underlying code and supply magic to borrowers.

Even so, just those functions gave Harry a massive upgrade. Some powerful spells that used to require a full second or two of array-drawing could now be drawn in an instant by the orb's code.

On the other hand, casting spells this way was far too rigid. It couldn't adapt like Harry could, changing the spell structure on the fly as the flow of battle shifted.

But for Harry, this was already plenty. Mechanical array-drawing was mostly for his borrowers; he could still draw arrays himself and unleash spells that were stronger and far more flexible.

Harry took a deep breath. With the orb complete, there was still one last step.

And that was the step he cared about most.

He slowly pushed the orb toward the distant mass of ungoverned chaos magic, watching intently to see what it would do.

The orb sank into the portion of chaos magic he couldn't control. At first it shuddered and warped, as if it would fall apart at any moment—but soon it stabilized and began to swallow the surrounding magic.

Its mechanical structure lacked adaptability and creativity, but that was exactly why it could ignore the wild turbulence of the chaos and still produce stable spells.

Harry was overjoyed. He observed that one portion of controlled chaos magic used to build the orb could harness five portions of uncontrolled magic.

That meant he could now command far more chaos magic than before, greatly increasing his upper limit of controllable power.

So, without a second thought, Harry dumped more than half of his chaos sea into the orb.

The orb spun in the chaotic ocean, drawing in massive swathes of chaos magic toward itself.

The magic was still unordered, but the orb could force it into motion and turn it into spell power.

Even if the spells it produced were rigid and fixed, the sheer increase in maximum magic output meant Harry's strength had risen dramatically.

And on top of that, the amount of magic Harry could directly control would continue to grow over time, and the orb's underlying code would keep updating and evolving.

Altogether, Harry's growth rate had now increased several times over at the very least.

"Looks like I need to find more geniuses like Tony," Harry murmured to himself.

One genius was worth more than hundreds of ordinary people.

Once again, it proved that saying true: the gap between one person and another is bigger than the gap between a person and a dog.

In high spirits, Harry whistled a little tune as he left the training room.

The moment he stepped out, he felt a wave of hostility. He glanced to his right and grimaced.

Kaecilius.

The two of them exchanged equally disgusted looks, snorted at each other, and walked off in opposite directions.

Pushing open the heavy, ornately carved doors, Harry stepped into the main hall of Kamar-Taj.

A faint scent of sandalwood filled the air. Soft light filtered through the stained-glass dome overhead, weaving dreamlike patches of color across the stone floor.

The Ancient One sat, as always, in her simple carved wooden chair, quietly sipping tea.

The Eye of Agamotto on her chest glowed faintly green. Harry knew she was observing the time streams of different dimensions.

Sensing his presence, the Ancient One slowly lifted her head. Her gentle gaze fell upon him, and a hint of curiosity flickered in her eyes.

"Harry, it seems you've had a new insight."

Harry sat down naturally in the opposite chair and cheerfully refilled his teacher's cup. Grinning, he said,

"I have. I've combined science and magic and worked out a way to control unordered magic. It's just a prototype, but it has limitless potential."

"Congratulations, Harry. As it happens, I have a gift for you as well." The Ancient One handed him a magical scroll.

Harry unrolled it, revealing a spell array inscribed within, along with detailed notes explaining every part.

The Ancient One took a sip of tea and explained, "I combined the Iron Armor Charm, the Repairing Charm, Transfiguration, and the Patronus Charm from the wizarding world with Kamar-Taj's Images of Ikonn to create this spell.

"It can only be used with chaos magic, and it consumes a great deal of it.

"I'd planned to wait until your power advanced further before giving it to you, but it seems you're already barely able to cast it now."

Harry's eyes lit up. The spell was called the Giant Spell; it could summon a ten-meter-tall rock giant.

The rock giant was controlled by the caster's mind, and it could repair itself, reshape parts of its body into weapons, and more. Even among all the spells of Kamar-Taj, it counted as one of the stronger ones.

Harry lunged forward and hugged his teacher. "Thank you, Master, I love you so much!"

Back home, Harry hummed a tune as he greeted Uncle Ben and Aunt May, then headed upstairs to his room on the second floor.

Just as he was about to open his door, another door swung open. Peter crept out, moving furtively.

The instant Harry saw him, his entire magical core trembled violently, screaming a warning.

He felt as if he'd been covered by a vast web of fate stretching across the entire multiverse. A curse was radiating from Peter's body, roaming back and forth between him, Uncle Ben, and Aunt May, choosing its victim among the three of them.
