The aftermath of the warehouse rescue was complicated.
Alessandro spent three days in the hospital. The bullet had missed major arteries, but the wound needed surgery and careful monitoring. Rosa never left his side, sleeping in the chair next to his bed, holding his hand through every painful moment.
"You don't have to stay," he told her on the second day. "You have Commission business, responsibilities"
"You're my responsibility. Everything else can wait."

"Alessandro, you took a bullet for me. For my family. The least I can do is sit with you while you heal."
DiMarco came to visit on the third day. Not his son, but the old man himself retired but still commanding respect.
"Mr. Moretti. Mrs. Moretti." He shook our hands formally. "My nephew tells me you refused to trade that Russian girl for his safety."
"We don't trade our people," Dante said simply.
"Even when it would have prevented this?" He gestured to Alessandro in the hospital bed.
