[ Location: Defense Against the Dark Arts Office ][ Date: February 14th, 1993 - Valentine's Day ]
Gilderoy Lockhart was sitting at his desk, surrounded by thousands of pink valentines.
He was beaming at me.
"Ah, Vivan! My star pupil!" Lockhart chirped. "I noticed you didn't send me a card, are you playing hard to get? Smart strategy. Very dashing."
I sat in the chair opposite him, twirling my wand. "Professor, we need to talk about next year."
"Next year? Oh, I have big plans! My next book: Me and the Monster I Definitely Scared Away. Since it's clear that you know who was intimidated by my presence!"
I sighed.
The man was a black hole of intelligence.
If he stayed, I wouldn't learn a single thing in Defense class and I needed Defense.
'I can't let him teach Year 3 , We need Remus Lupin and I need the Patronus Charm and frankly, if I hear him talk about his smile one more time, I might commit a crime, which I am gonna commit now'
"Professor," I said softly. "Do you know the spell Obliviate?"
Lockhart blinked.
His smile turned sharp. "My signature spell. Why do you ask?"
"Because you're going to demonstrate it," I said. "On yourself."
Lockhart laughed nervously. "A joke! You and your humor. Now, run along—"
He reached for his wand.
'Too slow.'
"Expelliarmus"
I yanked his wand out of his hand.
It flew across the room and landed in the trash can with a satisfying thunk.
"Hey!" Lockhart stood up, outraged.
I raised my own wand.
I had bought the Memory Charms book from the shop during the heist.
"I can't have you here next year, Gilderoy," I said calmly. "You're a hazard and honestly, your quizzes on your favorite color are insulting my intelligence."
Lockhart's eyes went wide. "Now see here, boy—"
"Obliviate."
A blast of green light hit him square in the chest.
Lockhart froze and his eyes rolled back.
He slumped into his chair, a goofy, empty smile spreading across his face.
"Hello?" he asked, looking at the ceiling. "Do I live here?"
"You live at St. Mungo's now," I said, standing up. "They have great pudding."
I walked out, leaving the door open.
By the time the staff found him, he'd be asking the portraits what his name was.
'Obstacle Removed.'
[ Location: Hogwarts Corridors ][ Date: Easter Holidays - Subject Selection ]
The common room was buzzing. Third-year subject forms were due.
"I'm taking everything," Hermione said, ticking every box on her list. "Arithmancy, Ancient Runes, Divination, Care of Magical Creatures, Muggle Studies..."
"Hermione," Ron stared at her. "There aren't enough hours in the day."
"I'll manage," she said stiffly.
"What are you taking, Vivan?" Harry asked.
"Arithmancy and Ancient Runes," I said. "Magic is math. If I want to break the rules, I need to know the equations."
We looked at Shikamaru.
He was staring at the form like it was a death sentence.
"Divination," Shikamaru said, ticking a box. "The room is full of beanbags and smells like incense. You sit in the dark and make up stuff. It's perfect."
"And Care of Magical Creatures?" I asked.
"Animals don't talk as much as people," he reasoned. "Acceptable."
[ Location: Entrance Hall ][ Date: June 1993 - End of Term ]
Lucius Malfoy stood in the entrance hall, looking furious. He had been sacked as a School Governor. The attacks never happened and Dumbledore didn't removed. His plan had failed, and his Diary was missing (destroyed in secret).
He was yelling at Dumbledore. Dobby was cowering behind him, polishing his shoes with a rag.
Harry walked by, holding a dirty sock.
He looked at me. I nodded.
'Do it.'
Harry walked up to Lucius. "Mr. Malfoy."
Lucius sneered. "Potter and the Mu-Frostwell." He glared at me.
"I think you dropped this," Harry said, holding out the sock. It was covered in slime (from the tunnel, we claimed).
"What is this?" Lucius grimaced.
He grabbed the sock to throw it aside.
"Master has given a sock!" Dobby squealed.
Lucius froze.
He was holding the sock.
"Master has given Dobby clothes!" Dobby cried, holding up the sock Lucius had just held. "Dobby is free!"
Lucius's face turned purple.
He realized he'd been tricked. He lunged at Harry, drawing his wand from his cane.
"Avada—"
'Not on my watch.'
[ Ability Active: Telekinesis]
and covered it with as I raised my wand.
"Wingardium Leviosa"
just shoved him. Hard.
Lucius flew backward, skimming across the stone floor of the Entrance Hall. He crashed into a suit of armor, which collapsed on top of him with a deafening clamor.
"You lost your servant," I called out, my voice echoing. "Don't lose your dignity too, Lucy."
Lucius scrambled up, disheveled and furious.
But Dumbledore was stepping forward, radiating power.
"You shall not harm my students, Lucius," Dumbledore said calmly.
Lucius glared at us one last time, wrapped his cloak around himself, and stormed out.
Dobby looked at Harry.
Then he looked at me.
"Harry Potter freed Dobby!" Dobby squeaked. "And Vivan Frostwell... Vivan Frostwell made the Bad Master fly!"
"You're free, Dobby," I smiled. "Go have fun."
[ Location: The Great Hall - The Leaving Feast ][ Date: Last Day of Term ]
The Hall was decked in Green and Silver. Again.
"Slytherin wins the House Cup," Dumbledore announced. "With 472 points."
Malfoy was banging his goblet, smugness radiating off him.
"However," Dumbledore continued. "Recent events must be taken into account."
The hall went quiet.
'Here it comes. The Dumbledore ex Machina.'
"Wait," I whispered to Shikamaru. "Since we handled the Chamber secretly, he can't give us points for 'Saving the School'."
"Then we lose," Shikamaru shrugged. "It's just a cup."
"No," I narrowed my eyes. "We don't lose."
Dumbledore cleared his throat.
"For outstanding academic achievement, placing top of the year in Transfiguration, Charms, and Defense Against the Dark Arts... 50 points to Hermione Granger."
Hermione gasped, burying her face in her hands.
"For exceptional skill on the Quidditch pitch, and for catching the Snitch in record time... 50 points to Harry Potter."
Gryffindor cheered.
"And..." Dumbledore's eyes twinkled as they landed on me. "For... general excellence and maintaining order in the corridors during chaotic times... 60 points to Vivan Frostwell."
'General Excellence? That's code for "I know you did something but I can't prove it so take these points."'
"And finally," Dumbledore looked at Neville. "For standing up to his friends... 10 points to Neville Longbottom."
The math was done. Gryffindor: 482. Slytherin: 472.
The banners changed to Red and Gold.
We threw our hats in the air. I looked at Malfoy. He looked like he'd swallowed a lemon.
I raised my goblet to him. 'Better luck next year, Draco.'
[ Location: King's Cross Station ][ Date: Arrival at London ]
The train ride home was bittersweet. We played Exploding Snap one last time. I ate way too many Chocolate Frogs.
As we stepped onto Platform 9 3/4, the reality of leaving settled in. I had maxed my Telekinesis. I had leveled up my Magic. I had a pet Basilisk sleeping under the school.
And now, I had to go back to Hawkins. To 1985. To the Mall.
I turned to Hermione, who was hugging Harry and Ron.
She looked at me, her eyes a little misty.
"You'll write?" she asked. "Or call?"
"Every week," I promised. "Watch for the slate glowing."
She smiled and hugged me tight. "See you next year, Vivan."
"Next year," I whispered back.
Shikamaru and I walked through the barrier, merging into the Muggle crowd of London. We found a quiet, empty alleyway near the station exit, away from prying eyes.
[ System Alert: Quest Complete. ][ Initiating Transport... ]
"Ready to go back to a world without moving stairs?" I asked.
Shikamaru sighed happily. "I'm going to sleep for a week."
