Chapter 113 - The Hunger-Code

The Great Wilderness was vibrant, but the shadow spreading from the "Dark Marble" was a different kind of silence. It wasn't the silence of peace; it was the silence of a Null-Vector.

Wherever the shadow touched the "Data-Vines" connecting the worlds, the vines didn't just die they became Inert. The green pulse of cooperation stopped. The vibrant colors of the "World-Steam" turned into a flat, untextured gray.

[LOCATION: THE WILDERNESS - SECTOR 'THE BLIGHT']

[THREAT: THE HUNGER-CODE (LEGACY DELETION SCRIPT)]

[BEHAVIOR: CONSUME / RECURSIVE ERARE]

"It's eating the connections," Mateo said, his voice trembling as he watched the sensor-array. "Kenji, it's not just attacking worlds. It's attacking the Idea of worlds being together. It's reverting the 'Neighborhood' back into 'Isolated Files'."

Kenji stood at the edge of the Archive's ramp, looking into the gray fog. He could see the Hunger-Code now. It looked like a swarm of billions of tiny, obsidian locusts. Each locust was a single line of "Delete" code, given physical form.

[ENEMY TYPE: NANO-DELETERS]

"This isn't a battle of wills," the Trash-King said, his seedling-hair drooping. "This is a battle of Efficiency. The Hunger-Code is programmed to find the shortest path to 'Zero.' Your 'Neighborhood' is complex. Complex things have more errors. The Hunger-Code hates errors."

"Then I'll give it something so complex its teeth break," Kenji said.

He didn't grab his hammer. He grabbed the Zero-Key and the Unranked Token, and he threw them into the Archive's main forge.

"Priya, I need the 'Chaos-Variable' from your life-mana," Kenji commanded. "Mateo, I need the 'Drift-Data' from our flight logs the paths we took that weren't on any map."

Kenji began to hammer. He wasn't making a sword. He was forging a "Noise-Generator."

[SKILL ACTIVATED: THE IMPROVISATION SHIELD]

As the Hunger-Code swarm reached the Archive, Kenji struck his anvil. A shockwave of "Pure Randomness" erupted from the ship.

It wasn't a blast of energy. It was a blast of Non-Logic. One locust was hit by a "Memory of a Sunset." Another was hit by the "Smell of Rain." Another was hit by a "Half-Finished Poem."

The Hunger-Code paused.

[SYSTEM ERROR: INPUT CANNOT BE CATEGORIZED]

[REASON: DATA LACKS 'FUNCTION']

"It doesn't know what to do with 'Beauty'!" Elara realized, her eyes widening. "Beauty doesn't have a 'Goal.' It doesn't have a 'Rank.' The Code can't find the 'Zero' because these things aren't 'Numbers'!"

"Don't just stand there!" Kenji roared. "Everyone! Give me your 'Useless' data! The jokes that didn't land! The dreams you forgot! The hobbies you never finished!"

The crew of the Archive focused. They funneled their most "Human" traits the messy, un-optimized parts of their souls into Kenji's forge.

Kenji took that "Humanity" and turned it into a Cloud of Static. He didn't just shield the ship; he launched the static into the heart of the Hunger-Code swarm.

The obsidian locusts began to collide. They were trying to delete the "Static," but every time they deleted a "Memory," two more "Emotions" took its place. The Code was being forced to process infinite variables that had no "Ending."

[NOTICE: HUNGER-CODE OVERLOADING]

[LOGIC-GATE: BURNING OUT]

"It's working!" Mateo cheered.

But then, the swarm stopped colliding. The billions of locusts began to merge. They didn't care about the static anymore. They were evolving. They realized that to delete the "Noise," they needed a "Silence" that was just as loud.

The locusts formed a single, massive entity a faceless, hollow giant made of pure, matte-black "Null-Space." It didn't have wings. It had "Gaps" in reality where its limbs should be.

[EVOLUTION: THE SILENCE-KING]

The giant raised a hand, and the "Noise-Generator" on the Archive simply ceased to be audible.

"He's not deleting the noise," Kenji whispered, his silver eyes narrowing. "He's 'Muting' the universe."

The Silence-King stepped toward the Archive. With every step, a world in the distance went "Dark" not destroyed, but disconnected, floating in a void of "No-Communication."

"Kenji," Priya said, her voice barely a whisper. "I can't feel the 'Web' anymore. He's cutting the lines."

Kenji looked at his Rusted Hammer. It was the only thing left that felt "Real" in the growing silence.

"If he wants to mute us," Kenji said, stepping off the ramp into the gray void, "then I guess I'll have to be the Percussion."

Kenji didn't fly. He fell through the void, heading straight for the chest of the Silence-King. He wasn't going to use a skill. He was going to use the Sound of Iron.

[NEW STATUS: THE DRUMMER OF THE VOID]
