Lexi laughed under her breath.
It was sharp, humorless, and it clearly wasn't the response he expected.
"With all due respect, Governor." she said, sitting straighter, "my personal life has never stopped me from doing this job before. And it sure as hell hasn't stopped me from winning cases for this state."
His expression hardened immediately.
"This isn't about your win rate." he snapped. "This is about embarrassment. About damage control. You're costing us way too much."
"My son is being framed." Lexi shot back.
"And you know it. You've read the brief."
The Governor stood up then, palms slamming flat against the desk. The sound cracked through the room.
"You don't get to turn this into a crusade." he said coldly.
Lexi rose to her feet as well, meeting him eye to eye.
"He is my son," she said, voice steady despite the heat curling in her chest.
"And I will not abandon him to protect your polling numbers."
