Her tears fell onto his hand, scorching straight into his heart, making his chest ache dully.
Damian Sinclair tightened his grip on her hand even more.
Bella Acker cried as she spoke in a low voice, "Talia got sick when she was just a few months old. My English was awful, I couldn't communicate with the doctors or nurses, and it took ages just to find pediatrics. Back then I kept thinking, if only you were by my side. Your English is so good, you'd definitely be able to sort everything out quickly. But I didn't know how to do anything, all I knew was how to cry. It was after that that I started sleeping only three hours a day, studying and working part‑time, using every scrap of time I could to learn English. No one taught me, so I just memorized by rote; once wasn't enough, I'd go over it twice…"
