Serena Stanton held her phone back to her ear, puzzled, and asked, "Is there something you need from me?"
"Where did you go?" Adrian Shaw sounded like he'd just woken up, his voice low, hoarse, and lazy, with a tone that was hard to mess with.
"Law firm. Working." Serena replied succinctly, not understanding what there was to ask.
That great President Shaw didn't need to work, could just live freely as he pleased, but she wasn't like him.
She was just an ordinary worker.
Adrian drawled out his words, "Ohhh," taking his time: "I thought you'd pull your pants up and make a run for it."
Serena went silent.
Why did it sound like he was calling her a player?
Adrian continued, slow and leisurely, "Sorry, I misunderstood you."
He said it like that, but Serena didn't hear a shred of apology in his tone.
