Serena Stanton calmly moved her leg away, her tone flat: "It's nothing."
Adrian Shaw's dark eyes glanced past her phone lying on the table, catching the reflected chat box; he could just make out the contact name.

The chat history was dense, messages flying back and forth, filling the whole screen.
Adrian let out a barely audible scoff, then spoke gentlemanly: "Lawyer Stanton, if you're uncomfortable, why don't you switch seats?"
"No need." Serena rejected him bluntly, not even bothering to give a reason.
Adrian drawled, "How come? If you're uncomfortable, you should switch."
"Mr. Shaw, you must have heard of 'first come, first served'," Serena replied. "I arrived first. If anyone should move, it'd be you."
Adrian leaned back in his chair. The warm chandelier light reflected in his eyes, but there was a cold and careless insolence in them: "I'm perfectly comfortable here. Not suffering like you."
