Chapter 21 - Space Mission 3

In the Smash House living room, Mario had been half-watching TV, half-dozing on the couch. Then every screen in the house flared to life at once.

The image stabilized.

Link stood inside the Smash Ship cockpit, armor removed, sleeves rolled up, hair tied back. Behind him, the dim interior lights flickered.

Shulk stepped forward, eyes narrowing.

"What's wrong, Link?"

Link exhaled.

"We found Falcon's team. Their ship is destroyed. Terry and Falcon are injured. Pyra, Bowsette, Villager, and Duck Hunt are missing in the forest."

A quiet ripple passed through the room.

Peach covered her mouth.

"Oh my…"

Isabelle's ears shot straight up.

"Villager is missing?!"

Sora leaned forward, elbows on his knees.

"Where are you?"

Link turned the camera toward the cockpit window.

Outside was a planet that looked like Earth — but massive. Endless forests. Mountains that scraped the clouds. A sky that felt too wide.

"We don't know the name," Link said. "But the wildlife is hostile. Very hostile. We're requesting backup."

For once, the Smash House was silent.

Then Mario stood up.

"Everyone who can fight," he said. "Get ready."

Cloud was already walking toward the armory.

Snake picked up his Gun's.

Kirby had somehow appeared holding a snack and a Warp Star.

Bayonetta smiled, slow and amused.

"Well. That sounds entertaining."

Shulk looked back at the screen.

"We'll be there soon."

Link nodded once.

"Understood."

The screens went dark.

Back on the planet…

Pit stood near the ship's ramp, wings folded tight.

He looked toward the forest stretching into the distance.

Dark. Thick. Endless.

Somewhere in there were their friends.

He clenched his bow.

'Another rescue mission…'

'Guess that's just my life now.'

Lucina stepped beside him.

"We'll find them," she said.

Pit smiled, small but steady.

"Yeah. We will."

Above them, the wind passed through the alien trees.

And deep in the forest — unseen — glowing eyes opened.

Back in the Smash House

Sora stood at the center of the command room. A holographic screen floated beside him, showing the image of Pit's team on the planet.

"We only have one ship left," Sora said. "This will be the second wave."

The hologram shifted, listing names.

Pit. Link. Fox. Falco. Phosphora. Samus. Lucina.

"They were the first wave," Sora continued. "They rescued Falcon's team, but now they need backup."

He waved his hand. A new list appeared.

Second Wave: Fox

Snake

Kazuya

Shulk

Mario

Luigi

Bayonetta

Sephiroth

A pause.

Then—

"HEY!"

Bowser stomped forward, smoke puffing from his nostrils.

"My daughter is missing on that planet. And I'm not on the list?!"

Sora looked up at him, calm as ever.

"Bowser," he said, "the ship can't handle your weight along with the others. If we overload it, everyone crashes. Then nobody gets rescued."

Bowser opened his mouth.

Closed it.

Opened it again.

Then growled.

"…Fair."

Luigi patted his brother's shell carefully like one might soothe an angry volcano.

"Don't worry, big guy. We'll bring her back."

Peach nodded firmly.

"And we'll keep the house safe while you're gone."

Bowser crossed his arms, looking away.

"…If my daughter gets even one scratch…"

Mario smiled, confident.

"She won't."

Sora turned toward the chosen fighters.

"Gear up. We leave in ten minutes."

Sephiroth was already walking toward the hangar.

Bayonetta adjusted her glasses with a smile.

"A rescue mission on a death planet. How nostalgic."

Snake checked his weapons.

"Let's just get this done."

Shulk's Monado flickered softly at his side.

Mario rolled his shoulders.

And Kazuya said absolutely nothing — which somehow made him the most intimidating person in the room.

Outside, the second Smash Ship powered on.

Engines humming.

Lights glowing.

A second wave preparing to dive into the unknown.

Meanwhile…

On the distant planet…

Pit suddenly felt a chill run up his wings.

He looked toward the forest.

Something out there was moving.

And it was getting closer.

Meanwhile, deep in the forest

Fire roared through the trees. Ash drifted through the air like black snow.

Bowsette skidded backward, claws digging into the dirt. Her shell glowed faintly from heat, flames licking around her horns.

In front of her, the creatures circled.

Jet-shaped beasts. Hammerhead horns. Golden eyes. Shark bodies built for the sky.

They screeched and dove again.

Bowsette cracked her knuckles.

"Alright. Round two."

She charged forward, fist meeting one creature's snout with a thunderous impact. It flew back, crashing through burning trees.

Beside her, Duck Hunt worked like a machine.

The dog rolled aside.

The duck flapped upward.

Invisible shots rang out — clean, precise. Three beasts dropped mid-flight, smoke trailing from perfect impact points.

Bowsette blocked another claw strike with her forearm, sparks flying.

She glanced sideways.

"Seriously," she growled, "where is this shooter friend of yours?!"

The duck flapped once.

Bowsette punched the creature away and sighed.

"Yeah, yeah. Different dimension. Magic gun. Whatever."

Another beast lunged.

Bowsette grabbed it mid-charge, spun once, and hurled it into a flaming tree.

It didn't get back up.

She wiped soot from her cheek.

"…I better not tell Dad about this part."

The duck nodded.

The dog gave a thumbs-up.

Somehow, that made perfect sense.

High above the burning canopy…

Something massive shifted.

Eyes opening in the darkness.

Watching.

Waiting.

And far away, engines roared in space.

Bowsette dropped low, claws digging into the scorched earth.

All four limbs braced.

Her chest expanded. Heat built inside her like a furnace.

"Dragon's Roar."

Fire exploded from her mouth — a blazing torrent that swallowed the clearing. Trees ignited instantly. The night sky turned orange. The wave of creatures vanished inside the inferno.

For a moment, there was only flame.

Then—

Shapes moved inside the fire.

Golden eyes.

Unburned.

Unbothered.

The beasts stepped out of the blaze, smoke rolling off their armored hides. Their jet-like fins flared. Their claws scraped stone.

Not a single one had fallen.

Bowsette's eyes widened.

"…Oh come on."

The duck flapped once.

The dog slowly raised his paw in a very concerned thumbs-up.

Above the treeline, the sky split open.

A streak of blue-white light tore through the clouds.

The second wave had arrived.

Ohhh yeah — we're fully in the "the crossover multiverse has stopped asking permission" phase now. I love it.

And yeah — your style is already there. Short sentences. Clear beats. Emotional focus. We'll just clean grammar, keep your structure, and keep the flow natural.

Then ice covered everything

The frozen forest crackled.

Ice coated every creature — mid-snarl, mid-flight, mid-strike. Their golden eyes still glowed behind frost, but they couldn't move.

Snow drifted down.

Bowsette slowly opened her eyes.

"…Huh?"

A soft glow pulsed beside her.

A graceful white fox stepped forward, nine flowing tails swaying like silk. Its fur shimmered with frost, eyes calm and ancient.

[Alolan Ninetales]

Behind it stood a man.

He looked about twenty. His jacket was torn and patched. Goggles rested on his forehead. Under the jacket, a black fitted combat suit and modern gear. Dust and snow clung to him like he'd lived outside for weeks.

He lifted a hand.

"Nine-Tails Blizzard."

The last drifting ice settled.

Silence.

Bowsette turned fully toward him.

"Okay. First question. Who are you?"

The man unclipped his cloak and goggles, revealing fair skin and sharp red eyes. He gave a small nod.

"Ethan Hermonia."

Duck Hunt stared.

The duck flapped once.

The dog whispered with his eyes:

'We have definitely left the Smash budget.'

Bowsette crossed her arms.

"And second question. Why does your fox casually freeze jet-dragon monsters like it's a morning stretch?"

Ethan glanced at the frozen creatures.

"…Because they've attacked my camp three times this week."

Bowsette blinked.

"…Your what?"

Ethan turned and motioned.

"Come. My camp is close. You'll freeze if you stay still too long."

The Ninetales lowered itself gracefully.

Bowsette hesitated, then climbed on behind the fox's shoulders. Duck Hunt hopped up beside her like this was perfectly normal.

They moved.

Silent. Smooth. Fast.

Through burning forest. Through ice. Through broken trees.

Minutes later—

They reached a clearing.

Tents. Fire pits. Strange equipment. A crashed escape pod. Tools. Maps carved into wood. Berries stored neatly. A spear rack. A half-built signal tower.

A survivalist's home.

Ethan stepped down.

"Welcome to my situation."

Bowsette slid off the Ninetales.

"…Yeah. I relate."

Duck Hunt flapped.

'Same.'

Bowsette finally asked the obvious question.

"So… how did you end up here?"

Ethan looked up at the massive alien sky.

"…Long story."

He paused.

"…But I think we're stuck on the same planet."

Meanwhile…

High above.

The second wave ship broke through the clouds.

Back with Pit's group

Link looked at the monitor as the second ship broke through the clouds.

"They're here."

Outside, engines roared. Wind kicked up dust and loose leaves. The ship landed with a heavy metallic hiss.

The hatch opened.

First came Wolf, stepping out like he owned the planet.

Then Snake, already scanning the horizon.

Kazuya followed, hands in pockets, completely unbothered.

Shulk stepped down next, Monado on his back.

Mario and Luigi hopped out side by side.

Bayonetta walked like she was on a runway.

And finally, Sephiroth descended the ramp, coat flowing dramatically for no reason other than instinct.

Fox approached them.

"Glad to see nothing attacked you on entry."

Wolf smirked.

"Whatever tried would've regretted it."

Pit jogged up, waving.

"Hey! Welcome to the weird planet of doom!"

Luigi swallowed nervously.

"…That's comforting."

Samus stepped forward.

"Briefing. Now."

Shulk raised his hand slightly.

"We got the message. Falcon's team is missing, correct?"

Lucina nodded.

"Pyra, Mythra, Villager, Duck Hunt, and Bowsette. Unknown location. Terry and Falcon are injured but stable."

Snake glanced at the destroyed landscape around them.

"And the creatures?"

Link held up the Pokéball containing the Crobat.

"Hostiles resemble Pokémon. But not any standard region we know."

Sephiroth looked toward the distant forest, where smoke and frost still mixed in the air.

"…Something powerful is ahead."

Pit stretched his wings.

"Good news! We have a water dragon guide."

The graceful lake dragon surfaced nearby, giving a soft chirp.

Mario blinked.

"…We have a what now?"

Phosphora grinned.

"Don't ask. Just accept."

The dragon lowered itself, inviting them to follow.

Fox turned toward the forest.

"Then we move. Rescue team first. Questions later."

Everyone nodded.

They marched forward—heroes, soldiers, gods, demons, plumbers, and one angel with a two-headed hellhound waiting back on the ship.

Above them, the alien sky shifted.

And deep in the frozen forest…

Ice cracked.

Golden eyes opened again.

Back with Bowsette

Bowsette sat by the small campfire, eating the roasted meat Ethan handed her. Surprisingly good. Crispy outside, juicy inside.

"So," she said between bites, "this planet is your home?"

Ethan nodded.

"Yes. But… not in my time."

Bowsette tilted her head.

"…Past or future?"

Ethan didn't answer right away. Instead, he pulled out a Pokéball and flicked it forward.

"Come out."

A flash of red light burst open.

A massive creature appeared — dark scales, crescent wings, savage aura. It roared once, shaking the trees.

Bowsette leaned back slightly.

"…Okay. That's cool."

Ethan rested a hand on the Pokémon's side.

"This is Roaring Moon," he said. "In my time, it's extinct."

Bowsette's eyes widened.

"So… this is the past."

Ethan nodded.

"The creatures you fought earlier weren't normal Garchomp."

He looked into the forest, where distant roars still echoed.

"They were Ancient Garchomp. From my time's fossils."

Bowsette slowly set her food down.

"…So I'm stuck on a planet full of prehistoric murder-dragons."

Ethan gave a small, tired smile.

"Pretty much."

Bowsette looked at him.

"So… how did you get here?"

Ethan exhaled and leaned back against a log.

"Long story short," he said, "me and my allies were trying to stop a scientist from bringing Pokémon from the past and future into my world."

Bowsette raised an eyebrow.

"Time travel. Of course."

Ethan nodded.

"I attacked the time machine with my Pokémon. I destroyed it…"

He paused, eyes drifting toward the fire.

"But when it broke, it tore open a time rift. I got pulled in before I could escape."

Bowsette whistled softly.

"So you punched a hole in time and fell through."

"…Yeah," Ethan admitted. "That's one way to put it."

Bowsette grinned, flames flickering faintly between her teeth.

"Huh. Guess we're both far from home then."

Ethan gave a small smile.

"Seems so."

Bowsette looked at him.

"So… any luck getting back to your original time?"

Ethan sighed and pointed toward a half-buried metal pod near the trees.

"I'm trying. That pod was part of the time machine. It still works… kind of."

Bowsette nodded.

"I know a few people who can fix it. They just need to find me first."

Ethan glanced at her, then gave a small, hopeful smile.

"Then I guess I'll trust that."

He released another Pokéball.

"Come out, Staraptor."

The large bird Pokémon burst into the air, wings spreading wide.

"Buddy," Ethan said, "if you see any people, lead them back here."

Staraptor cried out and shot into the sky.

Bowsette watched it disappear above the treeline.

"Nice bird."

Then she glanced back at Ethan.

"So… how many Pokémon do you even have?"

Ethan lifted his belt slightly.

Ten Pokéballs clicked softly against each other.

Bowsette blinked.

"…Oh. You're stacked."

Meanwhile, with Pit's group…

The forest shook.

Trees snapped. Earth cracked.

Something massive charged through the smoke.

They didn't know its name.

Didn't know what it was.

They only knew it was big, angry, and definitely not friendly.

Pit was already in the air.

"Twinbellows! Get in there!"

A magic circle flared, and the two-headed hellhound burst out in a roar of flame. Both heads lunged, jaws snapping shut around the creature's armored hide. Claws raked. Fire poured from its mouths.

The beast answered with a guttural bellow.

It was a hulking, prehistoric monster — thick plates of stone-like armor, massive tusks curved like scythes, red eyes burning with primal rage. Each step crushed the ground like a hammer.

Great Tusk.

But to them, it was just a nightmare with muscles.

Lucina braced Falchion.

"Whatever that thing is, it's not normal wildlife!"

Samus aimed her arm cannon.

"Charging shot ready."

Fox slid into position.

"Everyone, don't get hit by those tusks. I like my ribs unbroken."

The Great Tusk roared again and charged.

Twinbellows met it head-on — fire against ancient earth — claws and tusks colliding in a shower of sparks.

And deep in the forest canopy, Staraptor watched.

Then turned.

And flew fast as lightning toward Ethan's camp.
