Chapter 5 - "An Epilogue to One's Passion"

As If I was under water

Far away from the shore, free movement and lighter on my feet than ever before in an empty space as if it was only me.

Then a sight of the ball hitting the back of the net.

I scored... A goal...

I screamed from the top of my lungs but didn't hear a thing. Not myself, nor the fans.

Empty space with nothing in it other than myself.

As the darkness faded away a voice also said to me "Wake up and go back so we can continue playing"

I rushed over to our half and the match continued.

We won one nil.

"-he can be great, he just needs to work and train harder and more consistently" said coach to my parents.

"We will encourage him"

As if...

First training after the talk was like hell, no more praises or joy, but still pushed through it.

Encouragement...

Tenth training after, feels like something's amiss. Teammates started ignoring me more while coach trained me to the bone.

How could one even call it something like this...

Next match after the talk, coach yelled at me and my dad for missing couple of practices. Said if that keeps up I will be benched.

And now...

"Match starts! whistle"

I can't be weak, but I am... I am powerless right now...

Half-time score, nil nil...

"Pierce you need to wake up! You are our Ace our Tank that can destroy them-" I didn't pay much attention to what coach said, I just gave up right then and there, but still wanted to end it fairly...

"Falling out of love-"

A won corner...

Here comes the cross to which I perfectly timed my jump.

Goal...

Quick, strong pressure on the defenders... Stole the ball...

It's just the striker and the keeper... A gentle lob...

Goal...

Now let's put the final nail to the coffin... Ten more minutes... Five more minutes...

A pass to me...

Shot from outside the box... Keeper stunned didn't even try to save it since it's out of his reach... But it still managed to curl within the posts.

Goal...

Final score three nil.

I quickly changed clothes, rushed out of the stadium and drove off with my dad.

"-doesn't only appear between humans-"

Later that night I cried my heart out in a corner of my room... Alone...

"I'm sorry... I don't love you anymore..." I said to myself, to the one that I left for the last time on the pitch...

"-but also between yourself and your passion."

I left it all behind me, something that will keep on haunting me forever... Something I still love, but can not pursue...

I'm sorry...
