Chapter 35 - Chapter 35 – Collapse and Counter

The courtyard was a scene of devastation. Smoke rose from scorched rubble, walls lay shattered, and debris littered every path. Mercer's assault had caused significant structural damage, leaving corridors blocked, students scattered, and the harem exhausted but still alert. Johnson stood amid the chaos, surveying the battlefield.

"Status report!" he barked. His voice cut through the cacophony of falling debris and distant fires.

Mika shook her head, fists still clenched, eyes scanning for threats. "South wing is clear… for now. A few mercs remain, hiding in the rubble."

Arisa's dark eyes glittered, scanning the eastern flank. "Some tried to retreat… but I caught them. They're isolated. We can take them down if we move fast."

Hana's tablet blinked urgently. "The west corridor is unstable. I recommend using the collapse to our advantage. We can channel them into choke points."

Liliane's calm voice added, "I've reactivated sprinklers and security overrides. We can manipulate the environment further to trap Mercer's remaining forces."

Johnson's jaw tightened. Mercer had overplayed, leaving cracks in his assault. It was the perfect opportunity for a counterattack—but it required flawless coordination.

"Form up! Mika, block the south. Arisa, flank the east. Hana, guide the students through the collapse zones. Liliane, handle tech control. Black-haired girl, silent sweep. Let's move!" Johnson commanded.

The first mercenary appeared from behind a pile of rubble. Johnson intercepted, catching the man mid-strike, twisting him to the ground. Sparks flew from damaged wiring as he rolled to avoid a falling beam. Arisa moved like liquid, delivering a spinning kick to another assailant and brushing past Johnson in the tight corridor—a brief contact that sent a shock through him.

Mika's raw strength anchored the southern line, taking down two attackers with a single, devastating strike. Hana guided students through hidden passages, her calm precision a stark contrast to the chaos around her. Liliane hacked damaged doors, opening new paths while shutting old ones, forcing mercenaries into traps.

Johnson pushed forward, exploiting every weak point in the collapsed structures. He used walls, beams, and debris as leverage, redirecting attacks, blocking fire, and creating openings for his harem to strike. Arisa darted alongside him, her body close enough to brush against his at every turn. The heat between them mingled with the smoke, sweat, and adrenaline—a charged tension heightened by every combat maneuver.

A group of mercenaries attempted to ambush from above. Johnson caught one mid-leap, tossing him into a pile of rubble. Arisa followed immediately, taking down another with a precise, acrobatic kick. Their bodies pressed together briefly as they turned to intercept the next threat. Mika's roar echoed through the courtyard, shoving back an advancing squad, fists colliding with bone and armor.

Hana's voice rang out urgently. "Johnson! Structural collapse imminent! Use it to funnel the remaining mercs!"

Johnson nodded, signaling his harem. Using the fractured walls and partial collapse zones, they funneled Mercer's remaining forces into narrow choke points. Arisa blocked one passage with a fallen pillar, pressing her body against Johnson's shoulder as they maneuvered students safely past. The contact was fleeting, but intensely intimate.

The last mercenaries were cornered. Johnson, Arisa, and Mika moved in unison. Johnson's fists, Arisa's acrobatics, and Mika's raw strength created a perfect triad of offense. The Black-haired girl eliminated stragglers silently, and Liliane ensured the escape paths remained secure. Hana directed movements from above, her voice calm but authoritative.

Finally, the courtyard fell silent except for the heavy breaths of Johnson, his harem, and the remaining students. The counterattack had been a success. Mercer's forces were neutralized, and the academy—though scarred—was temporarily secure.

Arisa leaned against Johnson, her chest brushing his arm, sweat and soot mingling with the intimacy of their shared exertion. Mika gave a satisfied grunt, watching him and Arisa with subtle jealousy but undeniable respect. Hana adjusted her glasses, calm but impressed. Liliane's fingers hovered over her tablet, ready for the next move.

Johnson exhaled, surveying the battlefield. Mercer had overextended, leaving his remaining forces vulnerable. The collapse and counter had proven the strength, coordination, and resilience of his harem. And though the battle was won for now, Mercer's shadow still loomed, promising a more dangerous escalation in the chapters to come.
