Chapter 21 - Chapter 21: Light Saber

The Orge Race possesses the talent of extracting memories from the blood of the deceased.

After the projection, Lu Xun inherited this skill and gained a special skill with similar effects.

This is different from the technology of memory extraction; it is considered "mysticism," able to communicate with the souls of the Netherworld.

At this moment, once activated, his consciousness seemed to be "sucked" into an unknown realm.

...

Buzz~

The sound of the engine roared as the scenery outside the window flew past.

Lu Xun found himself on a plane, the same one that previously traveled from Jinghai City to the Elf Race's territory.

'Is this Old Octopus's world of memories?'

He thought, scanning around, and soon locked his gaze on the target.

By the window, Old Octopus sat on a seat, staring dazedly at the clouds outside.

Lu Xun walked over, waved his hand in front of the other's face, but there was no response.

It wasn't just him; the thousands of passengers on the plane also did not notice Lu Xun.

He was an observer, watching a "video," able to freely control its progress.

Lu Xun chose to "fast forward" directly.

Buzz~

Instantly, the surrounding changes seemed to be on fast speed, quite bizarre.

Until suddenly an announcement was heard on the plane—

"Ladies and gentlemen. We have just received notification from the captain that due to a passenger's sudden illness, requiring immediate medical attention, the plane will return to the airport immediately. We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause..."

All passengers appeared astonished.

Lu Xun also froze.

Then he showed a wry smile, unsure of what to say.

Finally, he knew how Old Octopus came back.

Because the plane turned back!

Perhaps this is fate?

Lu Xun sighed, turning to look at Old Octopus.

The other was obviously shocked too, not expecting such an accident to occur.

'But it doesn't make sense, even if the plane turned back, it would soon take off again, Old Octopus just has to wait in the departure lounge, why go home?'

Thinking of this, Lu Xun fast-forwarded again, dragging the memory video progress bar forward.

Until the plane landed at the North Gate Airport in Jinghai City.

This is Old Octopus's world of memories, so Lu Xun's actions couldn't exceed its visible range.

He followed Old Octopus from the disembarkation passage back to the departure lounge.

A few minutes later, Old Octopus received notification: the plane would take off again in an hour.

The old man breathed a sigh of relief.

Suddenly, he instinctively touched his chest, then his face changed, and he got up suddenly.

He frantically searched all over his body as if looking for something, looking more and more anxious.

"So that's it..." Lu Xun couldn't help but hold his forehead, already foreseeing what would happen next.

Old Octopus was looking for his pendant!

That pendant had been with him for over thirty years, a cherished treasure.

Now it was missing.

Where did it go?

Lu Xun remembered burning the slaughterhouse before, where Old Octopus accidentally threw out the pendant along with the protective suit.

After retrieving it, he cleaned the gasoline off the pendant and stuffed it into his coat pocket.

But now, he had changed his clothes!

Maybe in the rush to pack and catch the flight, he forgot the pendant in the pocket while changing clothes...

Left it at home!

"Damn, such a valuable thing and you lose it twice? So careless and negligent, no wonder your license was revoked due to medical malpractice, serves you right! Always careless, incapable of changing!" Lu Xun couldn't help but complain.

Old Octopus seemed to remember too, his face became colorful, worried, hesitant, struggling internally.

"...57 minutes before takeoff, there's still time..."

"The masked man said there were two days, we fled immediately after the surgery, identity couldn't have been exposed so soon..."

"... Going home once likely won't cause any issues."

He muttered for a while, then quickly left the departure lounge, dragging a suitcase towards the airport exit.

Anyone would think so, it's normal.

Even Lu Xun thought the enemy wouldn't act so quickly, there was ample time.

Who would have expected the enemy to discover the illegal clinic in just two or three hours?

Could it be the slaughterhouse fire that caught early attention?

In any case, because plans couldn't keep up with changes, this tragedy occurred.

...

A standalone small building.

Old Octopus anxiously returned home, rushed to the third floor, and entered the bedroom.

Quickly, he found an old jacket in the wardrobe and took out a pendant from the pocket.

"Whew~"

His aged face showed relief, cherishingly pressing the pendant to his chest, exhaling as if a burden had been lifted.

Yet at this moment, unfamiliar footsteps resounded beside him.

A tall man in black, and a combat robot, entered the room leisurely, one in front, one behind.

"Tsk tsk, truly surprising!"

The man in black chuckled as he approached, "I thought the prey had escaped, ready to return home, didn't expect you to come back! Haha, really amusing."

His appearance was distinguishable: left half of his face was dark silver metal, eyes glowing red, neck and collarbone largely prosthetic.

The scene was extremely terrifying for Old Octopus.

Merely hearing several slicing noises, six robotic arms behind him tore through the clothes, swaying like tentacles in the air, adopting a defensive posture.

"You should know why I'm looking for you; you took in a customer you shouldn't have."

The man with the mechanical face completely disregarded Old Octopus's defensive actions.

He arrogantly, disdainfully said:

"A mere insignificant ant, daring to interfere with our operations, utterly foolish!"

Old Octopus's expression gradually calmed from initial fright to tranquility.

He seemed to realize the fate he would face, simply shook his head, and said solemnly, "I won't say anything."

"No problem, I didn't plan to question you," the other sneered, "You just need to contribute a portion of your brain."

"Let's see if you have the capability!"

Old Octopus shouted angrily, the six mechanical arms roaring out like a mad dragon.

Seeing this, the man in black turned his wrist, and a metallic handle appeared in his palm.

Click!

He triggered a switch, instantly extending a green laser blade from the handle's front end!

The man in black swung the light saber arbitrarily, sparks flying in the air!

Buzz buzz buzz buzz!

In a series of resonant sounds, he sliced through all six of Old Octopus's mechanical arms effortlessly, as if cutting through butter with a steel knife!

The cuts were tidy, the edges of the alloy melted into a red-hot iron liquid, dripping on the floor with a "sizzle."

Lu Xun watching on the side was stunned!

This wasn't an ordinary laser.

The light saber was a plasma contained by strong magnets!

It was a military-grade high-tech close combat weapon, more rare than prosthetics of the same level.

He had only seen light saber demonstrations in military shows or the Jinghai City parade ground before.

But now, the real thing appeared in front of him!

Who exactly were the masterminds behind this, able to obtain a light saber?

In just a second, Old Octopus lost all his tentacles.

The next moment, the light saber pierced through his heart, burning a thorough cavity from front to back.

Old Octopus collapsed in a pool of blood.

The assailant killed him with as little sentiment as slaughtering a chicken.

He didn't have to die, but for an ordinary pendant, he lost his life.

His last operation before retiring blew up.

He had painstakingly amassed a fortune of sixty million.

Now, not a penny of it was spent, yet he died.

But surprisingly to Lu Xun, in his final moments, Old Octopus's face showed no fear or regret.

The blood-stained pendant dropped before his face, opening to reveal the photo inside.

He looked at the little boy in the photo, emotions like relief and reconciliation surfaced in his eyes.

Additionally, there was a hint of apology.

Lu Xun guessed, this apology was for him.

Because Old Octopus knew, he had dragged his "apprentice" into trouble.
