Chapter 61 - Chapter 61: Investigating the Room

Chapter 61: Investigating the Room

Standing at the door, William dialed Ren's number.

At this time, the morning Bible reading had just ended inside, and many clergy members were walking out.

On the phone, Ren said to just come in.

So William entered the church against the crowd.

He soon found Ren, who took him to the side of the main hall.

Since the Vatican reformed the churches.

Now male and female clergy members were allowed to study in the same place.

But the accommodations were still separate.

For example, near St. Jehovah Church, there were several houses rented by the Church, renovated and provided for the personnel of this church.

But as the illegitimate daughter of the Bishop, Sasha naturally received some preferential treatment.

She had her own bedroom inside the church.

When Ren arrived with William, someone was already there ahead of them.

"Ms. Allard, Sister Sasha's room is right here."

A church deacon gestured.

Standing beside him was a lady.

She wore a brown curled-brim cowhide hat, had pure black long hair, and a belt tied around her waist with many things hanging on it.

Including two holsters and a dagger.

"Oh, thank you."

Sadie Allard responded, her voice a bit rough.

"Zayn, this priest is also here to investigate," Ren said to the deacon.

Sadie turned around upon hearing this, and William could see her face clearly.

This lady had deep black eyes, and her appearance leaned more toward Latin American style.

Her skin was a bit rough, looking like she often stayed in harsh environments.

This gave Sadie a different kind of beauty and charm.

"Oh, didn't expect to see an Asian priest here."

Sadie looked surprised.

"I mean no harm, but here, the two of you are as eye-catching as I am!"

Facing this joke, William and Ren just smiled.

Ren explained a few things to the deacon, then found William again.

"Considering your strange quirks, I've already greeted them in advance."

This referred to the fact that William often dawdled outside for a long time when dealing with commissions.

"If you find anything, come to me promptly!"

Ren patted William, looking like he had high hopes for the latter.

He did have some selfish motives.

If his good brother could find clues about Sasha, Ren could advance further in front of the Bishop.

Of course, William didn't mind this.

In the early days of joining the Church, the two often helped each other.

Before the monthly tribute was abolished, Ren secretly helped William supplement it several times.

After giving instructions, Ren bid farewell and left.

After all, he still had a position, unlike William, who was a commander without soldiers.

"How should I address you?"

At this time, Sadie's voice sounded.

"Just call me William."

"Okay, Father William."

Sadie smiled slightly, revealing white teeth.

"My name is Sadie, from the West, a demon hunter."

"I can tell." William also responded with a smile.

Her outfit was very similar to the demon hunter he met at the politician's house last time.

"Is Father William also an exorcist? Are you from the Exorcism Academy?"

"No, I'm just an ordinary local church priest."

Facing Sadie's inquiry, William didn't explain much.

"Ms. Sadie, let's go inside first."

William said as he extended his hand.

"Ladies first."

Seeing this, Sadie smiled: "Oh thanks! Didn't expect you to be a gentleman."

After speaking, she walked in on her own.

One minute later.

"Aren't you coming in?"

Sadie turned around and found the priest still outside.

William stepped into the room upon hearing this.

In fact, as soon as he arrived here, he used [Night Vision] to confirm that there was nothing abnormal in this place.

But sometimes evil spirits wouldn't appear immediately, but wait until someone fell into the trap before attacking.

That was why William waited outside for a while.

Since Sadie showed no abnormalities, he ruled out this hidden danger.

William observed the situation inside the house.

This was a room combining classical and modern styles.

Heavy wooden floors covered the ground, walls were made of gray long bricks, and a fireplace was built.

The windows had iconic stained glass.

But the furniture leaned more towards modern.

Woolen sofas, crystal chandeliers, and even a TV.

Since Sasha disappeared, things in the room hadn't been moved.

And based on William's current observation, there were no traces of intense conflict here.

At the same time, Sadie closed her eyes and raised her chin.

"Hmm, no evil spirits," she thought to herself a moment later.

She also came for that bottle of holy oil.

For some purpose, she was determined to get this thing.

Therefore, seeing William, she was worried that he would compete with her.

Hearing that the priest was not from the Exorcism Academy, Sadie relaxed.

Except for those guys from the Academy, ordinary church priests were not competent enough for the job of "exorcist."

Before coming, Sadie knew that this place had been investigated many times.

If there were any clues, they would have been found long ago.

But she still chose to come.

Because she had an ability that other demon hunters didn't have—Dark Vision.

This was an ability above "Spiritual Vision."

It could detect malice near the user. Whenever an evil spirit had ill intentions towards Sadie, she could always detect it in advance.

Relying on this ability, Sadie had accumulated a lot of reputation among western demon hunters.

But just now she had observed the room with her ability.

The surroundings were very clean, even having the unique sanctity of the Church.

This also meant she found no clues.

Sadie turned her head and saw the priest lying under the fireplace.

Looking at him, he probably didn't find anything either.

"Looks like I can only check nearby," Sadie thought to herself.

On the other side.

William searched inside the fireplace.

Generally, evil spirits liked to hide in such places.

"Huh?"

He raised an eyebrow, took out a piece of cloth from his robe, and picked up a piece of charcoal in the fireplace.

William examined it carefully with [Night Vision] and soon found a strange aura inside the charcoal.

He observed other black charcoals, but found nothing.

Only this small piece in his hand was different.

William rubbed his chin and quickly wrapped the black charcoal.

Then, he crawled out of the fireplace and walked toward the door.

"Father, did you find anything?" Sadie spoke at this time.

"No, I plan to try my luck nearby."

William shook his head.

"What about you? I saw you closing your eyes just now. Do you have the legendary 'Spiritual Vision'?"

He actively asked about her privacy, and Sadie indeed showed wariness.

"Oh, Father, I didn't expect you to know about these."

She smiled slightly.

"Just now I observed the room with 'Spiritual Vision' and found nothing."

This was a rhetoric Sadie used many times, known to many in the West.

Seeing his goal achieved, William shrugged and went out.

He tried calling Ren at first, but the latter didn't answer.

Helpless, William had to ask others.

He asked several clergy members in a row.

But they all said they didn't know the source of the wood in Sasha's room.

Until he met a nun named Renia, who was also a financial clerk at St. Jehovah Church.

"The wood burned in Sister Sasha's room? It used to be uniformly provided by the Church."

Renia showed a look of recollection.

"But recently a carpenter merchant came to the church and was willing to sell a batch of wood at a low price, so the wood used during this period was provided by this merchant."

"Do you remember the carpenter merchant's address?"

"Oh, I can't remember that, but I can check for you."

Renia said and took William to a room.

Information about visitors who had done business with the church was stored here.

Renia soon took out a notebook and found the carpenter merchant's address on it.

"Oh, Hank Bayek! I remember this gentleman!"

She looked at William and said.

"Once when he delivered wood, we chatted for a bit."

"He mentioned that strange events occurred in the lumber yard recently. Whispers were often heard from the dense forest, so many workers dared not go in."

"At that time, I was taking him to Sister Sasha's room."

William's eyes lit up upon hearing this.
