Footsteps faded, all doors closed, and finally Olivia's perfume, sharp, floral, and irritatingly expensive, slipped away down the hallway like a ghost. Whoever she was, she seemed too comfortable here, too familiar. The way she had held Robert closely earlier, sent a familiar pang to my chest and I was glad I had shoved her straight to her place. No one messes with me. No one has the right to compete with me for what belongs to me. No one dares to.
