Chapter 65 - The exam third test teamwork part 18

Ren and his team's car had been driving fast through the desert. Far away, from the top of a high cliff, there were four people riding a giant energy surfing board large enough for the four teammates and one more. Even though they were moving fast, the wind pressure didn't seem to affect them much.

The board hovered from the ground until it drove off the cliff—but it didn't drop. The board kept moving forward while slowly descending toward the ground, gradually getting closer to Ren's car.

One of them stepped closer to the front edge of the board. It was a guy. Once he reached the edge, he got a clear view of the car as it drew nearer. He closed one of his eyes and lifted one of his arms up, trying to aim. Then he immediately sent his arm down in a chopping motion, releasing an energy slash that headed straight for the car.

Ren was relaxing in the car, looking at the desert through the window. Their drive had been perfectly smooth so far—nothing crazy had happened yet. Since nothing was going on, Ren decided to start a conversation, but once he opened his mouth, he immediately felt the car turn sharply, making him, Sophia, and Peter get launched from their seats.

Then they heard a booming explosion from the side.

"What the fuck is going on?" Ren said, looking out the window. He saw a massive slash carved into the ground, but they were already getting farther away from it.

"Villains are attacking us. They're slowly descending toward us on an energy board. I can see them through the reflection of the side mirror," Rex said.

That made Ren, Sophia, and Peter stick their heads out the windows to look—and they did see the board slowly approaching them. They also saw three more energy slashes flying toward the car.

Rex quickly dodged them by swerving.

Damage we have to do something ten said loudly, but even as he said it, Ren knew they couldn't do much. None of them could fight at long range, and even though they had two guns, he didn't think they would be effective in this situation.

"There's no need to worry," Peter said calmly. "Those guys are slowly floating downward. As long as Rex keeps dodging their attacks, they'll eventually get close enough for us to take them down. So Rex—keep doing what you're doing for a little longer. Then we'll handle the rest."

Rex nodded and kept dodging.

And the board slowly got closer until it finally stopped descending. Now they were close to the car.

"Peter, Sophia both of you try to get up to the roof of the car," Ren said.

"What? That's insane," Sophia said. "We'll fall out of the car if we do that."

"Don't worry. I won't let that happen. Just trust me and try to get to the roof of the car," Ren replied.

Sophia and Peter looked reluctant for a second, but they nodded and quickly opened their doors, trying to climb onto the roof. Ren did the same.

While they were climbing, Ren manifested a bunch of Shades and wrapped them around their torso's to keep them secure to keep them from falling out of the car.

They quickly got on top of the car and stared down their opponents.

The guy in the front immediately tried to strike the car again with another energy slash. This time, they couldn't just dodge away it was heading straight at them.

"Ren!" Peter yelled.

Ren immediately understood what he meant.

Peter jumped off the car, and Ren used his Shades to hold him in the air.

Peter crossed his arms, ready to take the slash.

The slash hit him directly.

Clank.

It sounded exactly like a sword striking a shield.

That shocked the guy in the front—and his teammates.

While they were stunned, Sophia took the opportunity and raised her handgun, firing at one of them. Energy bolts flew toward her target—

But his second teammate stepped in to defend him.

It was a girl.

She crossed her arms, and wind began swirling around them. The gust wrapped tightly around her forearms and blocked the incoming energy shot.

"Peter it's time to invade them," Ren said.

Peter understood immediately.

The Shades propelled Peter forward toward the board.

Once Peter's foot touched it, the wind pressure around him vanished, and he found himself standing on the board in front of the four-person team.

The girl who blocked the shots earlier immediately rushed at him and threw a punch.

Peter blocked it with his own arm.

The swirling wind around her arm functioned like a drill, trying to pierce through Peter's arm but it didn't.

It sounded like a drill grinding uselessly against solid metal.

Peter immediately punched the girl in the face so hard that she was sent flying off the board. Before she could hit the ground, she got teleported out.

He then looked at the rest.

Another girl stepped forward to fight. She threw a punch that Peter blocked—and that immediately caught his attention.

That punch was weak.

Either she wasn't using her powers, or she didn't have any, or her powers weren't combat-based.

He quickly punched back, but she easily dodged. She attacked again and hit him back. Her attacks had no effect.

For a second, Peter thought she was just trying to distract him—that was why she was going through with this hopeless fight.

Until she grabbed his leg at the knee and threw him off the board.

What the fuck?

Peter thought he was about to fall and lose—but then he got dragged back by a Shade and placed back onto the board.

"Oh yeah… I forgot about that," Peter muttered awkwardly.

Then he glared at the girl, and she glared back.

Now that he understood what she was trying to do, he took the fight more seriously.

They immediately began exchanging attacks. The girl kept dodging each of his blows, which was impressive since his attacks were unbelievably fast because of his superhuman strength.

As for Peter, he didn't even bother trying to block any of her attacks.

Their battle dragged on. It became tense enough that they both forgot everything happening around them.

So Ren quickly used one of his Shades to grab the girl's leg and drag her off the board.

She got teleported out.

Peter, seeing that, snapped out of his intense combat state and felt slightly teased. The fight had ended in a way he didn't expect.

But then he saw the energy-slash guy standing in front of him with his arms crossed.

Without hesitation, the guy chopped his arms downward, unleashing two slashes point blank at Peter's chest.

CLANK.

The clashing sound was so loud that everyone covered their ears.

The guy thought that was it.

Until he lifted his head and saw Peter standing there with an X-shaped tear in his shirt. His chest was slightly bruised.

But that was it.

Seeing how little damage his point-blank attack did, the guy was so shocked that he didn't even react when Peter prepared to punch.

Smack.

Peter's fist landed so hard that the guy immediately got teleported out.

Peter then glared at the last guy—the one controlling the board.

The guy just sighed, pulled out his phone, and said, "Yeah, I give up."

He got teleported out.

And with that, they won their very first battle in the third test.
