The hover taxi stopped in front of an apartment building. When Ren stepped out, he was amazed.
The apartment building wasn't a regular one—it was incredibly fancy. There were trees and plants integrated into the structure. It was the fanciest building he had ever seen. The most shocking part was that this was considered just a regular apartment on Star Island. It wasn't even one of the truly impressive ones, and yet this was where he would be staying.
He took his bags and suitcase out of the taxi and went inside the building.
As soon as he entered the lobby, he didn't even bother thinking about how fancy it was—there was a fountain in the middle of it. And not a regular fountain, but a statue fountain. He only glanced at it for a second before heading to the register to collect the keys to his apartment.
He got them quickly, went up the elevator, and headed to his room.
When he entered, he was shocked.
The apartment was massive. It had a bedroom, a bathroom, and a living room, with a corner of the living room functioning as a kitchen. Even though the kitchen was part of the living room, it wasn't inconvenient at all—the living room itself was far too large for that.
"Damn… Star Island is kind of harsh," Ren muttered to himself. "Imagine the poor students trying to get an apartment in New York after leaving The island."
He chuckled at the thought.
There was already basic furniture inside: a couch, tables, plates, and even a TV. After checking the apartment, he set his things down and started unpacking. Other than clothes, he had only brought what he actually wanted—his phone, manga, his gaming console, his computer, and a few books. They weren't study books, but fantasy novels. He wasn't the diligent type who worked nonstop to get here; he just did his own thing—playing games and reading stories.
Eventually, he finished tidying up the place. It only took about half an hour.
He went to the window and checked the view. It was truly beautiful. After that, he stepped back inside, locked the balcony door, and checked his phone.
It was still the middle of the day.
What should he do for the rest of the day?
Tomorrow would be his first day at his brand-new high school. He could use this opportunity to go out and explore the district. The area was huge It's a part of a city the city is a large one. Star Island had three or four city's, or something like that; he didn't really remember the exact number.
He could explore the place a little, but where would he even go?
He didn't know anyone here. He wasn't hungry, so going out to eat didn't make sense. And he didn't know where to go if he just wanted to have a bit of fun. Honestly, he didn't know what to do.
Something from earlier at the airport came back to him—the trailer, the words about finding your own path. For some reason, that line stuck with him. He technically knew why, but that didn't change the fact that he still didn't know what he wanted to do.
He hadn't planned to go to Star Island originally. He wanted to, sure, when he got the letter—but his grandmother and little sister wanted him to go even more than he did. His grandmother wanted him to go because why wouldn't she want her grandson to attend the best school in the world? She was so proud she even bragged about it to the other grandmas in the neighborhood. His little sister wanted him to go because if he did, maybe he'd gain a superpower.
He chuckled.
Yeah, right. Like that would happen.
Still, he was here now. And whatever future he ended up having was almost guaranteed to be good. Even being an average student on Star Island meant you could get almost any job. That was what bothered him the most—not knowing what he wanted. He had never had a clear dream or something he desperately wanted to become.
The only thing he was genuinely interested in that could maybe turn into a job was writing. He loved stories—games, novels, movies. Maybe he could try self-publishing one day, see if he was good enough. Who knew?
He shook his head.
It didn't really matter if he knew what he wanted or not. That was normal. Almost everyone his age was in the same boat. No one really knew what they wanted yet.
For a brief moment, his sister's wish about gaining superpowers crossed his mind again. Maybe he could enter the hero course…
He shook his head again. Like that would happen.
Then he heard a knock at the door.
He froze.
He didn't know anyone here. So who could it be?
Then he thought about it for a second—and immediately realized who it had to be. A smirk tugged at his lips.
"Well," he muttered, "this is probably going to make figuring out my future even more confusing."
