Chapter 7 - the king of blessings

"So this is how my new life ends?"

My vision faded until there was nothing left.

Then the darkness cracked apart.

When I opened my eyes again, I was lying in an endless black void with an endless sea of blood beneath me.

Where am I, and why does this place seem familiar?

I pushed myself up, trying to make sense of my surroundings.

Clap... clap... clap...

Slow applause echoed through the empty void.

"Congratulations," a familiar voice drawled. "You managed to die."

The voice carried amusement, arrogance... and something that almost sounded like disappointment.

I turned toward it.

Standing several metres away was a man I recognized instantly.

He stood well over six feet tall, draped in a loose white kimono. Black markings crawled across his exposed skin, and four crimson eyes watched me with unmistakable amusement. A grin spread across his face as though he'd been waiting for this moment.

"Sukuna?" I asked.

He chuckled.

"So... you know who I am."

"Who doesn't? You're Ryomen Sukuna, the King of Binding Vows."

For a brief moment, the corner of Sukuna's lip twitched.

"...Say that again."

"Say what?" I asked with a clueless expression, feigning innocence.

A deep laugh escaped him, echoing through the void.

He folded his arms.

"You really are his descendant."

"His descendant?" I frowned.

"The Six Eyes user and the man who could rival me." Sukuna sneered. "Satoru Gojo. Time has finally produced another sorcerer with his arrogance... but also his talent."

I narrowed my eyes.

"So why am I here?"

"Because I pulled you here."

His answer was immediate.

"You inherited both Limitless and Shrine. A combination that should have made you more untouchable than untouchable."

He took a slow step toward me.

"And yet you got jumped and lost."

I clenched my fists in annoyance, but I knew I had fumbled.

"You became too arrogant. You believed that you could live a good life, but you're wrong. Instead, you dishonoured my name and his."

His grin returned.

"But don't misunderstand. What happened tonight was pure misfortune, and very few could've pushed you that far."

He stopped directly in front of me.

"But the fact still remains. You nearly died."

"...Nearly?"

"I did die."

Sukuna laughed again.

"No."

His crimson eyes locked onto mine.

"You are balanced between life and death."

He pointed downward.

"Though the spear still remains buried in your body. If you remove it and use Reverse Cursed Technique, the damage to your body will heal."

He spoke as though it were painfully obvious.

"...That's it? So you won't ask for control of my body or anything?"

Sukuna chuckled.

"I wish, but I can't. Even if you let me, you have a binding vow connected to your body."

"A binding vow? Who put it there?"

"If you can manage to pull the spear out, you'll be completely healed. It's that simple."

I stared at him and scoffed.

"So you're just going to ignore me?"

Sukuna's grin widenend

"I hope you don't bring any more shame to my name."

Before I could react, he pushed me down, causing me to be submerged in blood as he forced me out of his Innate Domain.

(Real World)

[Omniscient POV]

The assassins stood together with their backs turned to Kenshi's body.

"What do we tell Lord Kaori? She told us to only injure him and then leave."

"I don't know! Why did you stab him in the chest, you moron?!"

"What? It's not my fault he died from one stab!"

"You stabbed him in the chest with the fucking Inverted Spear of Heaven. Obviously it would kill him!"

As the assassins panicked and tried to come up with a plan, none of them noticed Kenshi's body slowly standing back up.

He reached down and pulled the spear out of his chest. Fresh blood poured from the wound for a brief moment before his skin and muscles stitched themselves back together.

Kenshi looked down at the wound as it healed itself.

"Ha... wow. That's so cool."

He looked up from the wound and saw the assassins. Just seconds ago they had been worried. Now they looked completely shocked... and terrified.

"You know, guys, I have to admit, watching my body heal is cool and all, but I do not want to do that again."

The assassins instinctively stepped backwards, but after a few seconds they regained their bearings.

"Well, we killed him once. We can kill him again!" one of them shouted.

"But we had the spear, and as you can see, he has it now," one of the assassins replied, pointing at the Inverted Spear of Heaven in Kenshi's hand.

The man who had shouted looked at the spear, then back at his teammates.

"You're right, but that doesn't cha—"

"Bro, you can stop the speech. Your friends are running already" Kenshi said, pointing toward the fleeing assassins. The remaining assassin slowly turned around.

"...Can I get a head start?"

"Sure. I'll count to five."

As the man turned to run, he suddenly collapsed to the ground. He couldn't feel his legs.

Looking down, he saw that both of them had been sliced off just below the knees.

"One." *step*

Kenshi took a step forward with a grin.

"Wait! I'm sorry! It was only orders! I swear I didn't want to do it!"

"Two." *step*

"Please! Let me go! I'll tell you who ordered us!"

"Three." *step*

"Kenjaku ordered us to test you! I swear!"

"Four." *step*

Kenshi was now standing right beside the assassin, who lay on the ground crying in terror.

"I swear, that's all I kn—"

*Squish*

"Damn it... my limited-edition Jordans."

Kenshi sighed as he shook his shoe, trying to get the blood and brain matter off it.

He looked around and sensed two cursed energy signatures getting farther away.

"Whoa... they're fast. And with all these trees, I can't use Blue to teleport unless I want to slam into something. Guess I'll have to use good old cursed energy reinforcement."

Kenshi stretched his legs before flooding them with cursed energy. A moment later, he launched forward at just under Mach 1.

(Far in the Woods)

[Assassin 1 POV]

"Hey! Wait for me! You know I'm terrible at running!" Assassin 2 shouted in fear.

"Fuck no! And as the saying goes, I don't need to be faster than the monster. I just need to be faster than you," I replied as I picked up my pace.

"You cocksucker!" Assassin 2 shouted angrily.

We eventually reached a clearing in the woods. I looked around, trying to sense any cursed energy, but there was nothing.

"Do you think we lost him?" I asked, turning to Assassin 2.

"I don't know, but I sure as hell hope so," Assassin 2 replied.

"Yeah, I know, right? I sure hope we lost him too, guys," said our target.

"Yeah, so do I—"

Assassin 2 froze.

...Our target?

I slowly turned back around.

Standing there, casually leaning against a tree with his hair fluttering in the wind, was our target.

Both of us jumped backwards in shock and immediately drew our weapons.

"When did you get here? And how did you hide your cursed energy? Not even Lord Kenjaku can do that!"

"Wow, okay, Mr. Ask a Thousand-Questions. Since I'm in a good mood, I'll answer your first question. I got here a few seconds after you."

He paused dramatically.

"And your second question is because..."

For a brief moment, I actually thought he was going to reveal some incredible technique.

"...I'm built different."

*Chirp*

*Chirp*

*Chirp*

[If it wasn't obvious, those were crickets.]

I looked at him. Then at my partner. He had the exact same expression I did. I turned back to our target just as my partner said the words he would immediately regret.

"You son of a bitch."

Our target's smile disappeared. He slowly looked directly at my partner. The playful expression on his face vanished, replaced by a look of pure anger

"What did you say?"

It was less of a question and more of a demand.

"It seems I said something I shouldn't have... and for that, I'm deeply sorry," my partner said as he slowly backed away.

Before either of us could react

The target appeared directly in front of him.

Then he started beating him like an abusive husband coming home drunk to his wife, all while repeatedly shouting,

"My mother is a beautiful and kind woman!"

(A Few Minutes Earlier)

[Kenshi's POV]

I chased after the bastards who attacked me, and when I finally caught up to them, they were taking a breather in a clearing.

I spotted a tree that looked absolutely perfect for aura farming.

I walked over and leaned against it with my hands in my pockets, one leg resting against the trunk.

Then I used cursed energy to make my hair sway dramatically in the wind.

(Present)

[Kenshi's POV]

After I finished beating the bastard who called my mother a bitch, I turned to the other one.

He was completely frozen in fear, staring at what was left of his friend.

The poor guy had been reduced to a red paste splattered across the leaves and grass.

"Sorry, but you have to understand... he called my mother a bitch," I said, trying to help him relax.

It didn't seem to work.

"Look, I won't kill you, buddy. But can you tell me where Kenjaku is? Or Kaori? Or whatever name their using?"

I walked over and gently placed a hand on his shoulder, trying to turn him away from the horrific mess his friend had become.

"Man, whoever did that to your friend is insane. Good thing I'm here to protect you."

I pointed at my chest with an innocent, confident smile.

For some reason

The guy started crying even harder.

"Whoever did this is horrible. If you help me, I'll hunt them down, okay?" I said, trying to cheer him up like a good friend.

"S-S-She works inside an abandoned building about ten miles north."

"Thanks, buddy. You're a great help."

I patted him on the back but I 'accidentally' used Cleave.

The man exploded into chunks of meat.

"Damn... sorry, buddy. But your sacrifice will not be in vain."

I launched myself into the sky.

"Wait."

I looked around.

"What way is north again?"

I pulled my phone out of my pocket and opened the compass app.

"There it is."

I turned north, put my phone away, and activated Bluee and jn an instant, I teleported ten miles north.

(Abandoned Factory)

[Kenshi's POV]

I appeared a few hundred metres above the ground and looked down.

Below me sat a cluster of abandoned factories.

I sighed. "Why couldn't that guy just tell me everything? I don't sense any cursed energy down there, but I'd better play it safe."

I flew a little higher into the sky before stretching my arm out. I pointed my hand toward the factories, with my index and middle fingers curled inward.

"Nine Ropes. Polarized Light. Crow and Shōmyō. The Gap Between Front and Back."

I flicked my fingers downward. A small purple sphere shot toward the ground. The instant it made contact

*BOOM!*

A massive explosion of violet light engulfed the abandoned factory, tearing through everything in its path. I smiled as I dusted off my hands.

"Done and dusted. That should've dealt with them, and I don't sense any cursed energy anymore."

Using Blue once more, I teleported back home
