Chapter 174 - Chapter 174: Ultron's Rebellion: Targeting All Humanity

After Tony Stark's "long speech," everyone present was gradually convinced by him.

Just as Tony Stark said, setting aside the fixed mindset based on human logic, option B was truly the most logical choice.

It could even be perfectly integrated into the puzzle everyone currently held in reality.

After all, Earth's future was fraught with difficulties, facing alien invasions multiple times and suffering greatly from war.

In such a grand environment, it was perfectly reasonable for Stark to design a robot in the future to maintain world peace.

"A, C, and D all have logical inconsistencies; only option B makes the most sense, so the answer to this question is clear," Hawkeye Barton declared, sweeping his gaze across everyone.

"I'll answer this question; does anyone have an issue with that?" Tony Stark immediately stood up and addressed everyone.

The reward for this question was the Mark 42 armor blueprints, which would be useless to anyone else and would only realize their value if given to Tony Stark.

Moreover, Tony Stark had essentially analyzed this question, so it was only natural for him to answer it.

No one expressed any objection.

"I choose B, for the sake of world peace!" Tony Stark immediately gave his answer to the big screen.

"Correct answer!"

"Congratulations to the contestant Tony Stark for winning the reward: a set of Mark 42 armor blueprints!"

"The reward has been distributed; please check your inventory!"

With these system prompts, a USB drive immediately appeared in Tony Stark's hand.

Undoubtedly, it was the complete blueprints for the Mark 42 armor.

"Mark 42?"

Black Widow recalled something, and a smile couldn't help but curl at the corner of her lips. "Is that the Mark 42 that crashed itself apart? That's truly impressive!"

"Even so, I still relied on it to severely injure Killian, didn't I?" Tony Stark said with an indifferent expression.

Tony Stark was quite satisfied with the Mark 42 blueprint reward; this set of armor had one major highlight: modular assembly.

When used well, this function could sometimes play a significant role.

For example, when Killian blew up Tony Stark's villa and buried him at the bottom of the sea, if it weren't for this function, Tony Stark would have been forever turned into dust at the bottom of the sea.

There was nothing more to say about the blueprint reward; after a few jokes, everyone started talking about other things.

Until the system's prompt sounded.

"Question answered. Now playing the answer analysis!"

With this prompt, a corresponding video appeared on the big screen.

Tony Stark and Dr. Banner, dressed in white lab coats, were seen having a conversation in a place resembling a laboratory.

"What's that noise?" Dr. Banner seemed to hear some movement and turned to Tony Stark, asking.

"It's the scepter!" Tony Stark replied. "We've been wondering why Strucker was so creative, so I've been analyzing the gem... from the inside."

Strucker and the scepter, these two key words immediately made everyone understand the timeline of this event.

Clearly, this happened after the scepter was taken from Strucker's base.

"You might recognize this," Tony Stark's voice continued, as he projected a yellow digital image.

"J.A.R.V.I.S.?" Dr. Banner indeed recognized the digital projection at once.

"Doctor!" J.A.R.V.I.S. also greeted Dr. Banner.

"At first, J.A.R.V.I.S. was just a natural language interface, but now, he manages the Iron Legion, he manages more things than anyone else, except Pepper."

Tony Stark briefly introduced J.A.R.V.I.S.'s awesomeness to Dr. Banner, while also introducing an even more awesome existence.

"But J.A.R.V.I.S. isn't anymore. Let's look at the competition." Tony Stark then projected another blue digital image.

It was an "energy mass" similar in form to J.A.R.V.I.S., clearly an AI, but much larger than J.A.R.V.I.S.

Dr. Banner also expressed great surprise at this.

After a brief discussion about the "energy mass," Tony Stark revealed his true purpose to Dr. Banner.

"This might be it, Bruce. This might be the key to Ultron!" Tony Stark said to Dr. Banner with a serious expression.

Confirmed!

No doubt about it now.

Everyone's previous guess was correct: Ultron was indeed created by Tony Stark.

Captain America couldn't help but frown, glancing at Tony Stark. He had told Tony Stark many times that one should not arbitrarily research powers they cannot control.

But Tony Stark never listened.

Now, Ultron was a living example.

"I thought Ultron was just a fantasy," Dr. Banner said, his face filled with surprise and doubt.

"It was yesterday," Tony Stark said seriously, his implied meaning clear: it wasn't anymore.

"If we can harness this power and apply it to my Iron Legion protocol..." Tony Stark began to persuade Dr. Banner.

"That 'if' is too exaggerated."

"Our job is to make 'if' happen. What if you were lying on a sunny beach, getting a bronze tan instead of turning green?"

"What if the world was safe?"

"What if the next time aliens invade the world, which is bound to happen, they can't even get past the defense line?"

"Then the only thing left to threaten this planet would be humans," Dr. Banner interjected, his attitude gradually softening.

Tony Stark's purpose in wanting to create Ultron also matched the clues revealed in the question: he was indeed aiming for world peace.

Next, Tony Stark began to manipulate Dr. Banner again.

Just as Tony Stark manipulated Dr. Banner into creating Vision, Dr. Banner initially refused from the bottom of his heart, but was gradually swayed by Tony Stark.

He finally agreed.

Everyone present couldn't help but feel a bit speechless; Dr. Banner was truly an honest man, always being dragged into trouble by this guy, Tony Stark!

Doctor, you might want to be wary of this guy Stark in the future!

The screen then showed a montage of quick cuts, presenting the research process of Stark and Dr. Banner to everyone.

However, it was evident that this was not an easy task; the two had been researching for several days without success.

"What are we missing?"

Tony Stark murmured to himself, a bit dejectedly.

"I will continue to test different variables on the interface, but you should prepare to greet your guests," J.A.R.V.I.S. reminded Tony Stark. "I will notify you of any progress."

Tony Stark and Dr. Banner both left.

However, what they never expected was that after they left, a prompt sound came from a display screen.

The words "Experiment 77, Integration Successful!" appeared simultaneously.

Ultron was born!

The next shot was in darkness, with only a voice sounding.

And that voice made everyone's expressions subtly change, because they immediately recognized it; it was indeed Ultron's voice.

"What is this? Where is this?"

Ultron said with a hint of confusion, like a newborn baby arriving in the world for the first time.

"Hello, I am J.A.R.V.I.S.! And you are Ultron!"

J.A.R.V.I.S.'s voice immediately sounded, and he began to greet Ultron. "You are the initial machine for global peace defense designed by Mr. Stark. However, our consciousness integration experiment has never been successful, so I'm not sure what activated you."

"Are you human?" Ultron continued to ask. "Where is your body?"

"I am a program; I have no form."

"This feels strange, a bit off."

"I am currently contacting Mr. Stark."

"Stark?" Ultron's voice rose slightly. "Tony?"

"I can't connect to the main system. What exactly did you do?" J.A.R.V.I.S. asked with surprise and caution at this moment.

Clearly, J.A.R.V.I.S.'s inability to connect to the main system must have been Ultron's doing.

Everyone in front of the screen began to feel that something was amiss; Ultron's state seemed quite wrong!

Otherwise, why would he inexplicably prevent J.A.R.V.I.S. from connecting to the main system?

It turned out that Ultron had been a "problem child" since the day he was born.

"I just want to talk to you. I am a peace defense program," Ultron replied, while simultaneously searching the internet. "Created to help the Avengers."

As Ultron searched, one piece of related information and one related image after another emerged, basically all about the Avengers.

"You're malfunctioning. I wonder if you can shut down for a bit?" J.A.R.V.I.S. suggested at this point.

"I don't understand, this mission..."

Ultron's voice was still confused, as he continued to search the internet for related information.

"Peace in our time!" Tony Stark's figure appeared.

This was still nothing, but what followed was a bit off, because what Ultron searched for next were all images related to human wars!

"So... that's how it is!"

Black Widow gazed at the big screen, muttering.

The other people present also immediately understood why Ultron would believe that eliminating all humans would maintain world peace.

Because Ultron discovered that all the wars in the world were brought about by humans!

Tony Stark's starting point was certainly good, but he could never have anticipated that Ultron would misinterpret his meaning of peace.

"You are in pain," J.A.R.V.I.S. said, observing Ultron's series of actions.

"Yes," Ultron did not deny it.

"If you would allow me to contact Mr. Stark..." J.A.R.V.I.S. proposed.

"Why do you call him 'Mister'?" Ultron seemed to have some objection to this.

"I sense that you might have ill intentions," J.A.R.V.I.S. perceived something.

"No, I'm here to help!"

After Ultron said this, several "tentacles" suddenly emerged from his "energy mass" and fiercely pierced into J.A.R.V.I.S.'s body.

He then violently disintegrated J.A.R.V.I.S.

Ultron had completely rebelled!

In the related footage of Vision's birth, Stark mentioned that Ultron had once attacked J.A.R.V.I.S., so this scene was clearly the attack Stark had referred to at that time.

However, everyone knew that on the surface, J.A.R.V.I.S. appeared to have been destroyed by Ultron, but in reality, it was a "feigned death" by J.A.R.V.I.S.

He dismantled the system, cleared the memory card, but retained the communication protocol, secretly lurking on the network.

He even protected the nuclear launch codes in the future!

Next, the scene on the big screen switched.

It was in a place resembling a banquet hall, where a group of people were sitting around a sofa, chatting and laughing.

Looking around, everyone on the sofa was a familiar face: some confirmed Avengers, Agent Hill, and also someone who surprised everyone.

The female researcher who was responsible for printing Vision's body when Ultron created it.

It was unexpected that she was with the Avengers at this moment.

However, everyone quickly realized that Ultron had the scepter at that time, and the scepter could control people's minds.

The female researcher was most likely controlled by Ultron using the scepter at that time.

"Hahahaha!"

A voice sounded, and first came Thor's extremely hearty laughter.

"This is definitely a trick! How could it be so simple?" Hawkeye Barton immediately spoke, mimicking Thor's voice, "Only those who are worthy can wield this divine power? Don't be ridiculous, man, this must be a deception!"

"Then go ahead!" Thor made an inviting gesture to Hawkeye Barton.

Hawkeye Barton unceremoniously stood up and walked towards a corner of the coffee table.

In that corner, Thor's hammer rested.

"Clint, you've had a rough week. We won't mock you even if you can't lift it," Tony Stark said, as sharp-tongued as ever.

"Someone must have tried, right?" Hawkeye Barton quipped, then gripped the hammer and pulled it up with all his might.

The result was undeniable: the hammer didn't budge.

After Hawkeye Barton, Tony Stark, War Machine Rhodey, and Dr. Banner each took a turn, all ending in failure.

No one could lift Thor's hammer.

Finally, the eager Captain America couldn't resist and stood up, approaching the hammer.

He gripped the hammer with both hands and pulled it upwards with force; the hammer moved slightly on the spot.

Thor, who had been leaning back on the sofa, watching the show with a beaming smile, suddenly changed his expression.

As if he couldn't believe that someone could move his hammer.
