Chapter 189: Feng Xiaotian the Simp
Led by Shui Bing'er, Yu Tianlin arrived at a fairly secluded room. It clearly was not a common dining space for students, but a private place instead.
Back at Thunder Academy, because of Lei Bao, Yu Tianlin had always taken Shui Bing'er to eat in the vice dean's private room. Now the situation was reversed. Shui Bing'er's mother was the dean of Skywater Academy, so the place she chose was naturally special.
After Shui Bing'er gave a few instructions to the staff waiting nearby, dish after dish was brought in. The 2 of them ate and chatted, talking about what they had experienced in the years since they last met.
Shui Bing'er's life had been simple enough. She stayed at Skywater Academy to study and cultivate, occasionally taking part in academy activities.
During the entire conversation, she never once brought up how she had made more than 10 trips to Thunder Academy for nothing. It was obvious she did not want Yu Tianlin to feel guilty. Yu Tianlin understood her thoughts and did not force the topic, but he quietly made a decision in his heart.
After Shui Bing'er finished sharing, it was Yu Tianlin's turn. However, there were many things he had experienced over the years that were not convenient to reveal, so he selected only a few and gave her a brief overview.
As they talked, the atmosphere between them grew warmer. Yu Tianlin also learned that Shui Bing'er's Spirit Power was at level 39, and she was not far from breaking through.
That was already impressive. Shui Bing'er was only 15 years old. If she became a Spirit Ancestor at 15, her cultivation speed would be top tier, on par with Hu Liena from the Spirit Hall's Golden Generation, and even surpassing Xie Yue and Yan.
Yu Tianlin did not bring up his own Spirit Power level, since it was a bit too exaggerated. He only vaguely told Shui Bing'er that he was already a Spirit Ancestor.
Even so, Shui Bing'er looked shocked. She casually mentioned that, among the Five Elements Academies, only Feng Xiaotian had reached the Spirit Ancestor realm.
However, Feng Xiaotian was 10 years older than Yu Tianlin, yet their realms were almost the same. To be more precise, Yu Tianlin was 4 levels higher than Feng Xiaotian, a gap that was not small at all.
As they chatted, time slipped by. Before they knew it, the sky had darkened. Seeing it was late, Yu Tianlin and Shui Bing'er parted ways, and he returned to his room.
In the following days, Blazing Fire Academy and Elephant Armor Academy arrived as well, and the exchange officially began.
Putting aside the friendly sparring among the lower grades, the atmosphere among the upper grades was noticeably tense, especially among the teams that had already secured their spots for next year's competition. They were all probing each other's strength, and the one most frequently targeted was Yu Tianlin.
That was understandable. Yu Tianlin had replaced Yu Tianxin, who should have been the team leader, and there was very little information about him. However, Yu Tianlin simply ignored the provocations from the other academies.
He could not be bothered with them. When someone came to challenge him, he would just let Lei Tian and the others step up, calling it training, while he strolled around leisurely with Shui Bing'er.
Even so, information about Yu Tianlin still leaked out.
When Yu Tianlin told Lei Tian and the others to accept challenges, they obeyed without hesitation. From that attitude alone, it was easy to infer that Yu Tianlin's strength was far above theirs. Combined with the long roar from 2 days ago, the conclusion became even clearer. The name "Spirit Ancestor Yu Tianlin" spread rapidly.
Yu Tianlin did not care. So what if it leaked? There was nothing to hide anyway, as long as his exact Spirit Power level was not exposed.
Besides, Yu Tianlin was currently watching another Spirit Ancestor's match with Shui Bing'er, and it was genuinely entertaining. He had no time to pay attention to anything else.
On the arena, Feng Xiaotian of Divine Wind Academy, level 41, was fighting Huo Wu of Blazing Fire Academy, level 39.
Their Spirit Power levels differed by only 2, but that difference included a Spirit Ring close to 5,000 years old, so the real gap was much larger. In theory, this should have been a crushing match.
And yes, it was a crushing match.
Huo Wu completely overwhelmed Feng Xiaotian.
Every time Huo Wu attacked, Feng Xiaotian would put on an exaggerated expression, acting like he was desperately trying to dodge. Yet it was as if Huo Wu had fully seen through his movement path. He could not avoid anything and could only take the hits.
Feng Xiaotian's acting was so over the top that even Yu Tianlin, who had seen plenty of absurd idol dramas in his previous life, found it hard to endure.
This was so fake.
Huo Wu clearly noticed it too, and her expression was ugly. She obviously did not appreciate Feng Xiaotian "going easy" on her. After letting out a snort, she jumped off the stage.
Next, Huo Wushuang went up. He was also level 39, and he was Huo Wu's older brother. When Feng Xiaotian fought him, Feng Xiaotian once again displayed those exaggerated "acting skills," holding back like crazy.
Yu Tianlin was honestly impressed. He definitely could not do something like that.
He had thrown away all dignity. He really was a complete simp.
Brother, your Martial Soul is a wolf, not a dog.
Yu Tianlin suppressed a laugh and asked Shui Bing'er beside him, "Has Feng Xiaotian always been like this?"
"Mmm." Shui Bing'er nodded slightly, also holding back a smile. "It was the same at the previous exchange gatherings. Everyone knows Feng Xiaotian is strong, but because he likes Huo Wu, he does this every time he fights Huo Wu and Huo Wushuang. It never works though. Huo Wu doesn't like him at all."
It would be a miracle if Huo Wu liked him. Feng Xiaotian's behavior practically backfired. By making himself so humble, he only made others less interested. Especially for a strong willed girl like Huo Wu, Yu Tianlin honestly felt that if Feng Xiaotian consistently beat her down in every match, it might have had a better chance. How could someone who always held back and lost possibly earn her respect?
Still, everyone made their own choices. Yu Tianlin could not be bothered to care about Feng Xiaotian's simping. It was useless anyway, and the other person might even be enjoying it.
In the end, the arena match ended with Feng Xiaotian's defeat. After such an "enjoyable" fight, the atmosphere over the next few days of exchanges noticeably relaxed.
