Pei Ke nodded. He closed his eyes for a moment before saying, "I should thank your wife. She's the one who reminded me of this possibility."
Liam frowned. "What do you mean?"
"You remember that my current mother is my stepmother, right?"
Liam nodded. "I know."
Pei Ke continued, "My stepmother adopted a daughter. That girl was actually her sister's child. Her sister died a long time ago, so my stepmother adopted her niece."
Liam nodded, listening carefully.
Pei Ke continued, "I always thought my stepmother was genuinely kind to me. She even supported me in the race to become the Pei family's heir. At first, I thought she did it because she believed she could control me."
"But recently, your wife told me that my adopted sister was planning to marry me."
Liam's expression changed slightly.
"When I investigated the matter, I realized that my mother was actually supporting the marriage."
