He looked at the stars again.
"But then I realised that they're simply bad parents. They're human beings who are ambitious through and through."
Mu Ning chuckled. "After having such an epiphany, don't you resent them?"
Liam's smile faded slightly. "That's the problem. Even if I understand them, I can never justify what they did."
Mu Ning nodded. "Good. Because if you had, I would've started thinking you were some kind of saint."
Liam laughed. "Truly, Miss Mu Ning, you have a way with words."
He paused before looking at her.
"What about your childhood? What was it like? I've heard that you suffered a lot and were constantly trampled on by your brother. Was it always filled with bitterness?"
Mu Ning thought about the question for a while.
"Well, other than the bitterness, I spent a lot of my childhood trying to become rich because I was raised in poverty."
She smiled faintly.
