The clouds raced along the horizon trying to escape from the closing barrier.
A massive barrier enclosing the seven columns and the dragon inside had been completed. But the space it occupied was too big for the dragon to realize it had been surrounded.
A bitter smile rose on my lips in self hatred.
"System, shrink the barrier."
The barrier shrunk as I flew.
If it had been 10 or maybe 20 kilometers, I could've done it. But only the fact that the barrier spanned hundreds of kilometers relieved the self disgust.
My hand extended forward in the air and drew a line on the sky. An invisible slash powered by consciousness power materialized and flew 30 or so meters before dispersing. A second line was drawn, this time it travelled 200 meters at twice the velocity.
But lying to myself felt more pathetic. The fact that I couldn't accept my dependance on the system showed the fragility of my own ego.
The truth was, the system was more capable than me. Only recently did I learn how to distinguish between a unique ability and magic. But with a fast opponent like the dragon this time, I can't do it.
A new line formed, but this time it flew faster. When it flew out of visible range, a red eye instead popped on my hand as surveillance.
The unique ability of the previous floor's boss didn't have any requirements but its cost was somewhat high if I wanted it to be more potent. But that wasn't a problem.
After awakening, I began generating my own consciousness and the need to save up disappeared. Furthermore, killing now meant I gained the amount they generated. However, the phenomena of gaining the consciousness of those you kill isn't a natural one. Or else, I wouldn't have been so ill despite stepping on ants and killing mosquitoes.
A minute passed, despite the last slash taking the same amount of consciousness particles required to make 10 normal destruction magic spheres, it couldn't be compared to the dragon's speed.
The slash finally reached the dragon but the dragon dodged.
A new line was drawn.
In an instant the line reached the dragon as it flew mid-flight.
The dragon flashed and managed to dodge by a hair's breadth.
However, now I was drained.
I felt annoyed, after chasing it for 3 whole hours, I couldn't sense the structure of its unique ability much less discern that it wasn't magic.
My gaze landed on the eye and the dragon that could be seen inside it.
At first, nothing seemed to happen.
Then the dragon stiffened.
A low rumble escaped its throat as its wings faltered midair. Its massive body twisted violently, scales scraping against the barrier as if it were trying to tear something invisible away from itself.
The dragon shrieked.
Light flared erratically from its body and then it disappeared from my surveillance. In a moment it was found again and the mental attack continued.
The dragon began to dodge my surveillance erathically.
"What are you doing? I thought you wanted to test your ability." The system suddenly spoke.
"Not anymore."
The dragon would fly around whenever it stopped for a moment, I'd locate it and assault it.
Suddenly the drawing flew towards the barrier and ran into it. However, the barrier stood strong and the dragon fell as scales and blood dripped from its head.
It fell.
Mental attack stopped working after it lost consciousness and it was too far me to one-shot using other methods.
But the barrier was below so it was fine.
I stopped levitating and fell as well.
Several minutes passed when I hit the slope of the barrier and slid down to the bottom where the dragon was. The slope became small and I switched to flying.
After 15 minutes the dragon became distinguishable on sight. I drew a new slash.
"Congrats, you've completed the 37th floor."
A portal appeared before me, but instead I flew towards the portal to the door leading to the 37th floor. In an instant I flashed forward using the dragon's ability.
Standing on top of a cliff the wind blew slightly. For a while, time stopped.
A sigh escaped.
It would be nice if the fights weren't so tedious and was instead exciting like the fights in normal isekais. Then everything wouldn't have been boring and disgusting as it is now.
Over time, rustles and light footsteps came from the bushes and a gazes began to hover over me. It was the chimeras children from before.
They had three green eyes and had a face of a cat with ears of a mouse and a monkey body. One of them looked curiously and approached carefully.
It curiously sniffed my leg then smelled a bit more as if intoxicated by the nice smell.
A vine gently took hold of their face.
In its last moment it had a slightly fearful reaction to the vine but otherwise unaware.
A flash of fire burnt it into ashes. The other few followed closely after.
Wind blew and the ashes danced into the sky chasing each other like children.
I shouldn't have seen them.
But it was funny.
Normally when a murderer says they regret, they would be regretting the act of taking life. But I regretted not killing them on first sight. Yet not knowing at all wouldn't have made killing them any less sinful.
What was the point of being sad?
It was hypocritical to act like I care. Did I ever mourn the ants I that stepped on? No.
A fire blazes the trees around me and ate away everything like a death.
Chimeras flew, chimeras ran. swung from tree to tree and then got obstructed by the boundary wall of the world.
When the hour was over the forest and all life here had been burnt completely. I promptly left for the next floor.
"The 38th floor of god's dungeon."
I looked around the dark pathways inside the cave and began to look for the boss room. I used the dragon's ability and accelerated forward, passing by all the chimeras on the path I appeared at the place insight pointed.
"Boss room of the first floor of God's dungeon. Ouroboros"
The pathways that had diverged inside the cave connected back and formed a large room. In the middle was a pond. Around the pond was a strange spherical symbol of a snake eating its own tail.
The boss should be inside this pond.
The pond had shallow water and was filled with glowing spheres along with several snakes with a fin.
I extended a hand and one of the spheres flew up into my hand. It was an egg.
This should be the boss... without a doubt. At least according to insight.
But my hand stopped halting before crushing the egg. Of course, it wasn't as simple as it appeared.
The egg was crushed and splurged into a juicy liquid. In the instant of crushing it and moments right after it a powerful current surged before disappearing.
Together with the fact the fact that the system didn't announce anything and the snake design, the boss must have an ability similar to vegetative regeneration.
Right after quickly burning the whole pond, I went into one of the cave systems and arrived in a similar opening with a pond, a snake eating its tail, eggs, and snakes.
The system announced again, "Boss room of the first floor of God's dungeon. Ouroboros"
Kneeling beside the pond another egg was scooped up.
The egg burned and the power current appeared.
For the seconds it appeared.
"Hey, is it possible to destroy a unique ability?" I asked.
"Theoretically if you can go into a higher dimension then yes" the youthful voice of the boy hesitated, "There's a high possibility the source of unique abilities exists in a higher dimension. If we were to compare to a different analogy, the source is like DNA and what we seeing the physical world is ..."
Continuing with the job it was quickly done.
