Aurora's POV
"Wait!" I yelled, running toward it this time. I had so many questions—questions that couldn't be answered if I stayed back in fear.
I needed to know why and how my life had changed into something else.
But the faster I ran, the farther it became from me. The flames roared in the distance, its gaze weak and still. The darkness was different this time. Instead of the usual silence, there was a loud buzzing sound. It sounded like a waterfall, coming from all around me.
"Aurora."
Rod's voice cut through, echoing through the chambers of my subconscious.
"Wake up."
I jolted awake, gasping as I struggled to catch my breath. I looked around and instantly knew I wasn't in the Dire pack anymore.
"Wh… what happened?" I stuttered, taking slow breaths as I tried to recollect.
"Where are we?"
"Back home," he replied, sitting on a chair across from the bed. The dim candlelight and dark shadows told me it was already nighttime.
