"What a troublesome little girl," Zhou Yi sighed, watching the girl who had just woken up rush straight into Natasha's arms.
The little girl's attachment to Natasha wasn't a good thing for Zhou Yi, as it meant it would take a lot of effort to take her away from Natasha. Zhou Yi, who didn't have time for such troubles, simply dumped the problem on Natasha.
"You explain it to her! I can't just come out and say it."
Natasha, who had dragged Zhou Yi here, originally wanted to introduce the little girl to her future adoptive father, but she hadn't expected Zhou Yi to be so irresponsible. So, she could only roll her eyes and say to the little girl,
"Sherry, this is Zhou Yi. You'll be living with him from now on. If you can, I hope you'll call him Father. Believe me, he'll give you a happy life."
Natasha spoke very sincerely, but the little girl named Sherry didn't give her much face. She just clung tightly to Natasha's waist, burying her face in her arms. She didn't even want to look at Zhou Yi.
Zhou Yi just whistled at this, quietly backing away. He knew that the next part would be Natasha's time to give the little girl some psychological counseling, and he wasn't appropriate to be there. So, he consciously left the two of them space to be alone.
Natasha sighed; Sherry's resistance was within her expectations. But some things didn't change according to her will. She knew Sherry liked her, because she also liked the child. But she really didn't have the ability to raise this child.
She was an agent, or, to put it less kindly, a tool in the hands of others. The main reason she didn't want Sherry to stay by her side was that she didn't want her to become the same. And the only person who could protect her from being used as a tool and whom she could trust was Zhou Yi.
This was also why she agreed with Coulson's suggestion. She acknowledged Zhou Yi's power, and only his power could make those with ulterior motives back off.
"Sherry, I'm doing this for your own good. You're still young and might not understand what I mean. But you will understand later. Only by being by his side can you grow up carefree!"
Patting Sherry's little head, Natasha sighed. She didn't want her to be exposed to the dirty world of adults so early, but sometimes she had no other choice. Cruel reality always destroyed all your beautiful ideas, and you could only yield to reality.
"I know, Natasha." Sherry's golden-haired little head rubbed against her chest, her big eyes filled with crystal tears, looking like a heartbreaking porcelain doll. "But I don't want to leave you, I want to be with you."
"Baby, I don't want to leave you either." Natasha kissed her forehead, tears also streaming down her face. "But I have no other choice, I'm sorry. Sherry, I can't give you the life you want."
"It's okay, Natasha. I don't blame you!" Sherry reached out her hand clumsily to wipe away her tears. This child with a difficult life showed rare precociousness at this moment. "I'll listen to you, Natasha. But can you promise me you'll come to see me often in the future?"
"I will, darling." Natasha cupped Sherry's small face and said very solemnly. "I promise you!"
After speaking, she had already hugged Sherry tightly.
Zhou Yi stood outside the tent and lit a cigarette. He could hear the two women's conversation, and what surprised him was that they had developed such a close relationship in such a short time.
He didn't know what Natasha had experienced to have this burst of maternal instinct at this moment. But a woman with such emotions was much better than a cold, mechanical one. Agents were also different; people like Natasha and Coulson, who had a human touch, were always more reassuring than those who only knew how to execute orders.
The crying and laughter of the two people in the tent continued, and Zhou Yi no longer wanted to listen. Being caught eavesdropping wasn't something he could easily explain, especially when the woman inside was also very difficult to deal with.
To avoid such trouble, he returned to his own tent. There was a greedy cat and a guy who was unconscious and needed his care.
However, as soon as he entered the tent, Zhou Yi found that the atmosphere inside wasn't much better than Natasha's. Or rather, it was even worse.
Jill, who had woken up at some point, was staring coldly at Ada Wong, who was looking after her. If their gazes could materialize in reality, Zhou Yi could swear that it would be a scene of gunfire and clashing swords.
Coulson, that guy, didn't even bother to remind him and just ran off. How could someone like that be called a friend? Zhou Yi was starting to despair of that word.
"You guys carry on, I'm just checking on how the big cat is doing." Using the big cat, who was busy gnawing on a whole beef thigh, as an excuse, Zhou Yi gave a dry laugh and prepared to slip away. But neither of the two people present would let him off so easily.
"Stop right there, Zhou Yi. What did you do to me?" Without looking, he knew it was Jill asking. She was currently wrapped in a hospital gown, arms crossed, staring at him intently. Her eyes were filled with surprise and anger.
Surprise because she hadn't expected to still be alive, and to have undergone obvious changes. Anger because she felt like she'd been played again.
She'd thought she was going to die, which was why she'd said so much nonsense before she thought she was going to die. But she hadn't died, and she'd pretty much lost face. This made Jill feel like she wanted to crawl into a crack in the ground. But her natural toughness made her prefer to blame everything on Zhou Yi.
It was all Zhou Yi's fault, even if he wasn't wrong, he had to be. Just like Natasha said, women were born to be unreasonable. Even a woman like Jill was no exception.
Facing Jill's questioning, Zhou Yi thought for a moment and decided to tell her part of the truth. He pulled up a chair and sat down in front of Jill, saying,
"First of all, I want to tell you that there's no virus in you. Or rather, nothing with any negative effects exists in your body."
"How is that possible?" Jill looked at her body, which had no wounds, and muttered to herself. "Did you inject me with the Vaccine?"
"To be precise, it's a kind of Catalyst!" Zhou Yi interrupted her conjecture, explaining, "This Catalyst caused your cells to engulf the virus, making it the key to unlocking your Evolutionary Lock. The virus transformed into the energy you need for evolution, making you stronger, healthier, and younger and more beautiful. It allows your body to present its most perfect state, whether it's energy, physical fitness, or age, it's all like this."
After hearing this, Jill stared blankly at her hands. Those hands were different from what she remembered. The hands, which should have been full of calluses and scars, were now as smooth as jade. Her slender fingers looked perfect and delicate, not even resembling the hands of an elite police officer, but more like those of a pampered young lady.
"Damn it, this isn't real." Facing the impossible situation, Jill shook her head and quickly glared at Zhou Yi again. "You must be lying to me. There's no such thing. Whatever you did, it definitely has nothing to do with what you said."
Jill spoke with conviction, as if she had witnessed the whole process. But Zhou Yi could confirm that she was unconscious at the time and couldn't possibly know what he had done. So he covered his face directly, showing a helpless look.
"Jill, I admit I've lied to you, but I've never had any intention of hurting you. I paid a huge price to save you. Even if this still can't change your resentment towards me, at least you should trust me once. The facts are right in front of you, why are you unwilling to admit them?"
"Because the facts in front of you are often what others deliberately want you to see, which means it's probably fake." Jill replied with a sneer. "You forgot that I'm a police officer. I believe in intuition more than evidence. Moreover, I've already been deceived by you once, so I'll never be deceived by you a second time."
"Alright, you win." Jill's stubbornness made Zhou Yi give up. Since she was unwilling to believe, Zhou Yi wouldn't force her. Anyway, no matter how she questioned him, there would only be this one answer. This was not only to solve the doubts in her heart, but also to shut up some people.
The anomalies on Jill's body would definitely attract S.H.I.E.L.D.'s attention, and they would follow the clues on Jill to find Zhou Yi. And only if Zhou Yi insisted that it was the effect of a Catalyst Vaccine, would S.H.I.E.L.D. be helpless against him. No one could force him to hand over the things he wouldn't give up, this was the confidence of a superhero.
Jill didn't expect Zhou Yi to concede so readily. She didn't feel the joy of victory in the verbal sparring, but rather a sense of annoyance. A feeling of not being taken seriously. She secretly gritted her teeth and continued her unreasonable behavior.
"Who is she? Why is she beside me?" Pointing to Ada Wong, who was sitting calmly to the side, Jill's eyes became sharp again. She looked at Ada Wong as if she were looking at a zombie, filled with a desire to attack.
What is this, a natural clash between beautiful women? I should be glad Natasha isn't here! Zhou Yi muttered to himself, then turned to look at Ada Wong. He needed to know what misunderstandings they had.
"This is my new assistant, Ada Wong. Is there some misunderstanding between you two?"
"Just a small misunderstanding, Boss!" Ada Wong smiled calmly, then looked directly into Jill's eyes. "Miss Valentine seemed a bit confused after she woke up, and she attacked me directly. If it weren't for the weapons, perhaps you wouldn't be seeing a live me right now. From this point of view, I should thank you, Boss, for being able to come back in time."
"Is that so, Jill?" Zhou Yi asked Jill, but the answer he received was Jill stubbornly turning her head away. He could only sigh at this.
"Although I don't really want to know what happened between you. But I want to state one thing, Umbrella is finished. Jill, your enemies are all going to be finished. So change your mindset and live well. Ada has nothing to do with this, you don't need to make things so tense."
