Chapter 93 - Ten Heart-Stopping Seconds, a Hair's Breadth from Death

The Alloy Warhead's speed was incredibly fast. With Magneto's electromagnetic pulse providing the initial velocity, it accelerated to an astonishing degree the instant it entered Earth's atmosphere. Converted to a unit of measurement, its speed had reached over 25 Mach.

This speed seemed similar to Zhou Yi's maximum speed, but one must remember that the Alloy Warhead's own weight and volume were far greater than a human's. Its weight of over four hundred tons, coupled with a volume exceeding one hundred cubic meters, gave it an unimaginable amount of kinetic energy. Furthermore, its material was Ultra-Dense Alloy, disassembled and reassembled under Magneto's control. To put it simply, this kinetic energy warhead could be seen as a genuine meteor with a high metal content.

Letting it fall freely, it wouldn't just be Paris that would be affected; the entire country of France, even Europe, could experience massive geological changes. The destruction of a city, leading to natural disasters like earthquakes and tsunamis, would be the most optimistic outcome. Worse, this kinetic energy Alloy Warhead could trigger minor plate shifts, causing the collective eruption of volcanoes that shouldn't be activated.

If it came to that, humanity would face a very cold season. The vast amount of volcanic ash would be enough to bring the world into an early winter, even a sudden glacial period.

After Medusa's simulation program reached this conclusion, Zhou Yi set two firm goals for himself: first, he had to stop the Alloy Warhead no matter what. Second, he had to make Magneto taste the power of his fists.

Under pressure, his speed was soaring. Gravity and even the air were creating immense pressure against his advance. But the greatest pressure came from the massive Alloy Warhead overhead. Zhou Yi could clearly sense its energy field from a great distance as it fell. And because he sensed its presence, Zhou Yi was shocked by the kinetic energy it carried. This thing absolutely could not hit the ground.

His Telekinesis field erupted completely. A Telekinetic Barrier, stronger than any wall in the world, was erected directly beneath the Alloy Warhead. That was Zhou Yi's first line of defense. In his estimation, this Telekinetic Barrier would absorb most of the kinetic energy, reducing the Alloy Warhead's kinetic energy by more than half.

However, he hadn't anticipated that the Ultra-Dense Alloy created by Magneto would have an impact he couldn't estimate. In an instant, the Alloy Warhead pierced through his Telekinetic Barrier, and the kinetic energy it carried shattered the entire Telekinetic Barrier before he could react.

Zhou Yi had initially wanted to rely on his Telekinesis to withstand the first impact, thereby weakening the entire Alloy Warhead's kinetic energy. That way, he could calmly reduce his Telekinesis and use other means to deal with the huge Alloy Warhead.

However, he didn't expect his Telekinetic Barrier to be so fragile in front of this kinetic energy warhead, and the process of it destroying his Telekinetic Barrier was so violent. This caused his brain to fall into chaos and pain in an instant. The feeling was like holding a red-hot iron rod and piercing it through the Prefrontal Lobe, causing pain signals to permeate his entire nervous system.

And this mental pain was directly exposed externally. Blood flowed from Zhou Yi's eyes and nasal cavity. Unlike normal people, his blood was extremely hot, appearing a very conspicuous bright red. When his blood dripped onto the helmet, the self-inspection system in the helmet directly activated a low-temperature fire extinguishing program. Some cold inert gas sprayed directly onto Zhou Yi's face, allowing his pained brain to barely regain clarity.

As soon as his brain cleared, Zhou Yi regained control of his body. Although his limbs were still numb, and there was still a harsh noise in his ears, his overall condition had recovered. Compared to the human physique, his body's recovery was absolutely monstrous.

And as soon as he recovered, Zhou Yi focused his gaze on the Alloy Warhead rapidly falling from above. Having pierced his Telekinetic Barrier, its kinetic energy had only slightly weakened, having almost no effect on its overall kinetic energy. It was still like a meteor, trailing a long tail of flames, carrying the momentum to destroy everything as it flew towards the earth.

Seeing that the Alloy Warhead had already entered the stratosphere, Zhou Yi resolutely abandoned those auxiliary methods and directly met it head-on from below. Time didn't allow him any opportunity to prepare. He could only fight with all his might.

The Superheated Thermal Ray began to output at maximum power, with the temperature starting at one hundred thousand degrees and quickly rising to a peak. That was a super temperature of nearly four hundred thousand degrees Celsius, possessing high radiation and destructive power. In essence, this ray was no different from the high-intensity rays derived from the sun.

The super-high temperature directly penetrated the warhead's body. The light, as thick as a waist, easily melted the outer structure of the Alloy Warhead, but it would obviously take a lot of time to completely melt and destroy this huge warhead, and what Zhou Yi lacked was precisely time.

At the Alloy Warhead's speed, it would hit its target in less than ten seconds. However, based on Zhou Yi's ray's melting speed, it could still maintain most of its structure when it landed. If that were the case, Zhou Yi's interception would have no effect. Even if only one-tenth of its volume remained, it would be the end of days for the city.

Therefore, he had to do more. Looking at the rapidly falling giant warhead, Zhou Yi gritted his teeth and flew up close. In less than a second, he was beneath the warhead. But wisely, he didn't try to collide with the behemoth directly. Because the result was obvious. The force generated by two supersonic objects colliding wasn't calculated by simple addition. Even Zhou Yi wasn't confident he could survive that kind of power.

So he changed his approach. Maintaining a super-high speed, he flew backward. This method kept his speed relatively stable with the Alloy Warhead. In this state, he used his Superheated Thermal Ray to melt the metal body of the kinetic warhead from a close distance while simultaneously setting up a powerful Repulsion Field on his body.

He didn't dare to directly withstand the impact force, but with the force field's support, he was willing to try. He had no other choice. Magneto's attack had far exceeded his expectations.

In this situation, he couldn't retreat, nor could he dodge. Below him was Paris, where countless humans lived, including his mother, sister, and girlfriend. With them there, he couldn't back down. Once he retreated or dodged, countless lives would end, and the most important people in his life would face the same threat. This was something he couldn't tolerate, even for them, he would have to use his body to hold up this giant.

The Alloy Warhead had already contacted the Repulsion Field he set up. The kinetic energy penetrated, instantly thinning his Repulsion Field. The immense power even directly affected his body, causing all his bones to crackle. He desperately used his hands to support the warhead's body, and his body, which had been retreating in the air, slowly stopped.

This action was equivalent to directly bearing all the kinetic energy it carried. When this kinetic energy completely pressed down, the Repulsion Field was hard to maintain. Zhou Yi, mobilizing all his strength, could only barely allow these repulsion to share a portion of the kinetic energy without collapsing. As for the remaining kinetic energy, it all landed on him.

The Nano-Metal on his palms had completely collapsed, and the black metal particles were directly turned into ashes under the super-high temperature permeating the warhead. This caused his hands to directly contact the scorching metal surface, but his skin, which was far more resistant to high temperatures than Nano-Metal, allowed him to almost ignore this temperature. He even directly used his thermal ray to melt the warhead from a close distance, and his hands reached into the almost molten alloy. His hands were lengthening, but this was just an illusion. His hands had been maintaining one action without change; what changed was the Alloy Warhead. Its molten metal shell began to slowly submerge his arms under his supporting action.

If he could use his arms, he might have been able to destroy the warhead more effectively. But he couldn't. He could only barely conjure a small Repulsion Field, pushing the molten metal into a flattened shape, hoping to lessen some of the kinetic energy by increasing the surface area.

As for his hands, they lost all function the instant they made contact with the Alloy Warhead. He could clearly hear the sound of bones breaking in his left arm, and most of the muscles were torn to shreds. Blood vessels began to burst as well, giving his subcutaneous skin an eerie bright red hue, and even twisting heat waves could be seen rising from his skin. However, these were completely indistinguishable under the cover of the melting metal.

This physical pain wasn't any better than the blow to his brain just now, but compared to before, Zhou Yi clearly felt the descent speed of the Alloy Warhead slowing down. This achievement momentarily made him forget the pain in his body, and he focused all his energy on holding on.

His left arm could no longer exert any force, forcing him to use his shoulder to bear the kinetic energy. And as his injured arm moved slightly, it immediately gave the kinetic energy an opening. The force suddenly plunged downward, causing all his muscles to swell. This was the natural reaction of the human body under external pressure, and because of this natural reaction, the armor on his arm to his shoulder was directly shattered by his muscles. The portion of Nano-Metal that was already damaged by the kinetic energy was no longer able to fully protect him. It turned into particles, separating from its main body.

Losing part of his armor, Zhou Yi still barely managed to hold his ground. His shoulder propped up the other side of the warhead. The penetrating force caused severe bruising to the muscles in his shoulder and back, but it was indeed much better than the injuries to his arm at the beginning. This also indicated a problem: the kinetic energy of the Alloy Warhead had begun to significantly weaken.

The land was not far below now, it was time for the final push.

Zhou Yi used his shoulder to firmly hold the warhead on his body, and his free right hand began to bombard the side of the warhead at super high speed. Countless fists fell on the side of the warhead's body. These high-speed punches not only began to disrupt its descent direction, but also gradually eroded its final kinetic energy.

Although the reaction force caused Zhou Yi's right hand to suffer the same impact, he still didn't stop. His fists landed on the body like bullets fired from a metal storm. Each punch brought a huge impact sound. Broken metal, molten debris, and dark particles were scattered around his flailing fists, looking like a spray of fire from a distance. Along with it came his roar, a painful roar that made him sound like a dying but still majestic dragon.

This scene deeply shocked the hearts of all the humans below.

And with Zhou Yi's actions, the kinetic energy of the Alloy Warhead finally dissipated to almost nothing. Apart from its own weight, it had no kinetic energy at all. It was on Zhou Yi's shoulder, and all its movement was controlled by him. This also meant that it was no longer a weapon, but just a huge piece of junk.

When Zhou Yi picked up this giant object and landed on the ground, everyone held their breath. There was no terrifying impact as imagined; the earth was safe and sound, without a single tremor. The ground was also undamaged. On Zhou Yi's shoulder, he couldn't even touch the ground. Therefore, the crisis was completely gone.

The surviving human residents of Paris erupted in a deafening cheer, and amidst this cheering. Zhou Yi punched through the Alloy Warhead on his body. The tattered metal shell was immediately torn into two huge halves. Stepping on this huge shell, Zhou Yi shook his shoulder. He shouted at Magneto.

"Come on, let's have a second round. Let everyone witness your failure."
