From what they had observed, the ticks emerged from the bottom of the well in waves. The interval between each wave was less than half an hour.

Endless. Relentless.
Almost like mass production.
No natural organism could hatch and mature that quickly. Even before the apocalypse, aphids—among the fastest-reproducing insects—still required at least four or five days to produce a new generation.
