Chapter 42 - I hate him

Kian Silver's POV

I hated Evan Leigh.

The realization settled deeper into my bones with every passing minute.

The contract sat inside my backpack like a ticking bomb as I stepped out of Leigh Enterprises and into the crowded evening streets.

People moved around me in a blur.

Cars passed.

Neon signs flickered.

Someone laughed somewhere nearby.

But none of it reached me.

All I could think about was that infuriating man.

Evan Leigh.

One of the richest alpha in the city.

The man who somehow managed to sound arrogant even when saying something nice.

The man who had completely overturned my life in less than a week.

I tightened my grip on my backpack.

My grandmother.

The thought immediately pushed everything else aside.

I hurried toward the bus stop.

No matter how angry I was, there was only one thing that mattered.

Grandma.

The hospital came into view nearly forty minutes later.

Raya Hospital.

The building looked even larger now.

Knowing who owned it somehow made it more intimidating.

I pushed through the entrance and headed toward the elevator.

The nurses greeted me warmly.

Far more warmly than usual.

That alone made me suspicious.

The presidential suite occupied nearly half of the hospital's highest floor.

I still couldn't believe it.

A private living area.

Private nurses.

Private doctors.

Private monitoring equipment.

The room was larger than the apartment I rented.

I opened the door.

"Grandma?"

The elderly woman immediately looked up from her bed.

Her face brightened.

"Kian, dear."

The tension in my chest loosened instantly.

Just seeing her smile made everything feel lighter.

"How are you feeling?"

"Much better."

She patted the space beside her bed.

"Come sit."

I sat immediately.

Grandma took my hand.

The wrinkles around her eyes deepened as she smiled.

"That young man came again."

I already knew exactly who she meant.

My eye twitched.

"Evan Leigh?"

"Mm."

She nodded.

"He stayed for almost half an hour."

Half an hour?

I blinked.

Why?

Grandma continued cheerfully.

"He spoke to my doctor."

My eye twitched again.

"He did?"

"He asked questions about my treatment."

What?

"He even brought flowers."

I followed her gaze.

A beautiful vase sat beside the window.

Fresh white lilies.

I stared.

For several seconds.

Silently.

Grandma looked pleased.

"You should thank him."

I nearly choked.

"Thank him?"

"Of course."

Her voice softened.

"Kian, dear, not many people would do this for a stranger."

I looked away.

A stranger.

That was exactly the problem.

Why was he doing this?

People like Evan Leigh didn't randomly help strangers.

Not without a reason.

Not without wanting something in return.

The more I thought about it, the less comfortable I felt.

"He probably wants something."

Grandma laughed.

"Everyone wants something."

I opened my mouth.

Then closed it.

Unfortunately...

She had a point.

Still.

There was no way I was trusting Evan Leigh.

Not even a little.

My phone vibrated.

A message.

Leigh Enterprises.

Report to the executive office tomorrow at 8:00 a.m.

Failure to appear will be considered a breach of contract.

I stared at the message.

Then at the ceiling.

Then back at the message.

I hated him.

I truly hated him.

Noah's POV

Something was wrong.

Terribly wrong.

Evan had come to visit Diamant....again

I stared across the executive office.

Then I looked at Diamant.

Then back at Evan.

Then back at Diamant.

"Do you see that?"

Diamant didn't look up from the document in his hands.

"See what?"

"Evan."

That got his attention.

Diamant finally raised his head.

His gaze landed on Evan.

Who was smiling.

A genuine smile.

Diamant immediately sighed.

"Stop coming here and run your company you menace".

Evan smiled even deeper and Diamant sighs once again

"Someone's life is about to become very difficult."

"RIGHT?"

I pointed dramatically.

"I knew it!"

Diamant shook his head.

"I almost feel sorry for whoever it is."

Almost.

That was the important word.

Almost.

Because neither of us felt particularly sorry.

Evan usually earned his victims.

The man seemed physically incapable of leaving people alone once something caught his interest.

Noah frowned.

"Do you think we should be worried?"

Diamant considered it.

Then calmly answered:

"Not us."

"What does that mean?"

"It means whoever caught his attention should start praying."

I nearly laughed.

At that exact moment, Evan glanced over.

Our eyes met.

His smile widened.

Immediately, I grabbed Diamant's sleeve.

"He looked at me."

" That's how he naturally looks"

"No" I pointed accusingly.

"That was a Murderous look."

Diamant looked entirely unconcerned.

"Evan has never looked at you with murderous intent."

"Murderous intent?!, you should be grateful.", Evan muttered teasingly, staring at something far too interestingly to be called 'nothing' as he said when Diamant asked him about it .

"That's not comforting!"

"Don't worry baby, If he does, I'm sending him to the great beyond" Diamant says as he shot a warning glare at Evan.

Evan actually chuckled.

"You know you can't". Annoyingly true, because Diamant cares deeply for Evan.

Diamant rolls his eyes at Evans words

Across the room, Evan finally looked away.

Whatever he was planning...

Neither of us wanted to know.
