Evans POV
The university came into view.
Large gates, busy students, the smell of youth and ambition.
Evan parked without hesitation, stepping out of his luxury car like he owned the entire place.
Heads turned instantly.
They always did.
His suit was expensive, his posture flawless, his aura sharp.
He didn't look like someone who belonged in a campus.
He looked like someone who belonged in a courtroom where lives were decided.
He pulled out his phone and dialed.
The principal answered almost immediately.
"Yes? This is the principal's office."
"This is Evan Leigh."
Silence.
A sharp intake of breath.
The tone instantly changed.
"O-of course, Mr. Leigh. How may I assist you?"
Evan smiled faintly.
"I need you to send a student down to the parking lot."
"Which student, sir?"
"Kian Silver."
The principal hesitated for only a fraction of a second.
"Yes, sir. Immediately."
Evan ended the call.
Then he leaned casually against his car, arms folded, watching the building entrance like a predator waiting for prey.
Minutes passed.
Students moved around him nervously, whispering, glancing, then quickly looking away.
Evan didn't care.
He simply waited.
And then…
He saw him.
A young man walking down the stairs.
Tall.
Slim.
Brown hair slightly messy like he didn't care enough to tame it.
His shirt tucked in, bag slung over his shoulder.
His steps were quick, impatient.
His face… calm, but guarded.
Evan took out his phone, opened the picture his assistant had sent.
Same face.
Same blue eyes.
Kian Silver.
Evan's gaze sharpened.
Interesting.
He didn't look intimidated.
He didn't look curious.
He looked… annoyed.
As if being summoned was an insult.
Evan slowly straightened up.
Then stepped away from the car.
Waiting.
Kian Silver's POV
The moment the principal's secretary told him someone was waiting for him at the parking lot, Kian felt irritation crawl up his spine.
He didn't have time for nonsense.
He didn't have time for random meetings.
Not when his grandmother was lying in a hospital bed fighting for her life.
Still, the principal had sounded serious.
So Kian grabbed his bag and walked out.
As he descended the stairs, he spotted the expensive car immediately.
A luxury vehicle that didn't belong in a university parking lot.
And beside it stood a man.
Tall.
Broad shoulders.
A suit that looked like it cost more than Kian's entire semester tuition.
His face was unreadable, sharp like a blade, eyes cold and calculating.
Kian's first instinct was to look away.
Because men like that didn't bring good news.
Men like that were the reason the world was unfair.
He scanned the parking lot, searching for someone else.
Maybe the man wasn't the one.
Maybe he was just waiting for someone.
But the longer Kian looked around, the more he realized…
There was no one else.
Then the man spoke.
His voice was deep, husky, smooth in a way that felt dangerous.
"Kian Silver."
Kian stopped.
His heartbeat stuttered.
Slowly, he turned his head.
The man's gaze was locked onto him.
Like he had been waiting for this exact moment.
Kian narrowed his eyes.
"Who are you?" he asked sharply. "And how do you know my name?"
The man stepped forward slightly.
He didn't smile.
He didn't soften his expression.
He simply said, "Evan Leigh."
The name hit Kian like a brick to the chest.
Evan Leigh.
That Evan Leigh.
A big shot.
A man whose name moved like a shadow through the city's elite circles.
The kind of man people bowed to.
The kind of man who got whatever he wanted.
Kian's jaw tightened instantly.
Because the moment he heard that name, his mind dragged up an ugly memory.
A big shot.
A rich man.
A powerful man.
Just like the kind who had been behind his parents' death.
Kian's fingers curled into fists at his sides.
So it was him.
The man who had tried to hire him.
The man whose assistant had contacted him.
Kian's eyes darkened.
He didn't like powerful people.
Powerful people didn't care who they stepped on.
And Kian had already been stepped on enough.
Evan Leigh's POV
The hatred in Kian Silver's eyes was immediate.
Evan noticed it, and instead of being offended…
He was amused.
Kian didn't even try to hide it.
The boy's posture stiffened, his gaze sharp like he wanted to cut Evan open with his eyes alone.
And then Kian spoke.
"I already said I'm not working for you."
Straight to the point.
No fear.
No hesitation.
Evan chuckled softly.
His lips curved, not in kindness, but in interest.
"I thought you were interesting for refusing my offer," Evan said slowly, his voice calm. "
"But now I find you even more interesting."
Kian's expression didn't change.
He didn't blush.
He didn't look flattered.
He looked disgusted.
"Say whatever you want," Kian snapped. "Nothing can make me change my mind. I will not work for you. And that's it."
He shifted his bag strap on his shoulder and took a step back, as if Evan's presence was contaminating the air.
"Now if you'll excuse me, I have a class to attend."
Evan watched him turn, ready to leave.
And something about that…
That refusal.
That pride.
It sparked something inside Evan.
Not anger.
Not frustration.
But a slow, dark thrill.
Because Evan Leigh had met many men.
Many arrogant men.
Many proud men.
And he had broken them all.
Some begged.
Some cried.
Some crawled.
Eventually.
Evan's eyes narrowed slightly, his smile deepening as his thoughts whispered cruelly inside his mind.
I've seen a lot of people with pride.
And breaking them gives me joy.
I've also seen a lot who pretend they have dignity… just to crawl back to me later.
Kian Silver was walking away now, his steps quick.
But Evan didn't move.
He simply spoke, his voice carrying easily across the distance.
"I've heard that a lot, you know."
Kian stopped mid-step.
Evan's tone remained calm, but his words were laced with power.
"And if you don't know…" Evan continued, "no one rejects Evan Leigh."
Kian turned his head slightly, eyes narrowing.
Evan held his gaze, his expression sharp.
"Don't forget that."
For a moment, the air felt thick.
Like something unseen had coiled around them, tightening slowly.
Kian didn't respond.
His jaw clenched, and his eyes flashed with something dangerous.
Then he turned fully and walked away again.
Not running.
Not rushing.
Just walking.
Like he refused to show even a fraction of weakness.
Evan watched him disappear into the building.
Then Evan smirked.
A slow, satisfied smirk.
He opened his car door and got inside, shutting it with a soft, expensive click.
As he started the engine, his gaze remained fixed on the entrance.
Kian Silver.
Evan's lips curved slightly.
"Interesting," he murmured to himself.
Then he drove away, leaving the university behind.
But the thought of that boy…
That stubborn, sharp-eyed boy…
Stayed in his mind like a mark.
And Evan Leigh never forgot what he wanted.
Not ever.
The car disappeared down the road.
And the chapter ended with one truth hanging in the air like a warning.
Kian Silver had caught Evan Leigh's attention.
And that was never a safe thing.
