Chapter 64 - Ordinary-Boy Annoyance

Before Su Cheng could speak, Ning Rongrong beat him to it.

Curiously, she turned to him and asked, "Is your martial soul a mutated one? Why are you able to cultivate so quickly? I'm the same age as you, and I'm only level twenty-four."

"Probably mutated… but I'm not exactly sure," Su Cheng shrugged, answering casually.

"Can you show me your martial soul again?"

"Of course." Su Cheng revealed his martial soul. "My martial soul is called the Longevity Sword. Its attack isn't as overwhelming as the Seven Kill Sword of Sword Douluo, but it's more balanced in overall capability."

Ning Rongrong nodded, though she wasn't particularly concerned with the Longevity Sword's details. Instead, she asked, "Why is your second soul ring a thousand-year one? How did you manage that?"

At the Spirit Committee before, Sun Buyu had only briefly outlined Su Cheng's situation. The details were vague, leaving her curious.

"Luck…" Su Cheng gave a bitter smile, recounting the story he had told before, adding many vivid details this time.

"So you cultivated all alone since childhood?"

A trace of pity appeared in Ning Rongrong's eyes.

As the jewel of the Seven Treasures Glazed Tile Sect, she could hardly imagine what it had been like, and how he could reach such a level at his age under those circumstances.

"So you must be lacking in a lot of basic knowledge about martial souls?"

"Probably. No one taught me as a child, and the academy I attended was in a remote region, providing little instruction. Also, because of an error in my soul power test, I didn't initially qualify for the Spirit Hall's Law Eye, so my understanding of martial souls has been clumsy and slow."

This was a lie.

As a research-oriented talent, Su Cheng's understanding of martial souls, while not as profound as his medical skills, was still top-tier on this continent.

He said this only to better relate to Chen Xin in the future.

Though Ning Rongrong had a bit of a young lady temper, she was kind-hearted. Making his childhood sound pitiful would earn some goodwill.

Sure enough, after hearing this, her eyes softened further. She comforted him: "It's alright. We're still young, cultivating soul power is what matters. Even if the early soul ring choices were a bit off, it won't make much difference. Besides, your second soul ring is a thousand-year one—it's already compensated for many shortcomings."

Su Cheng nodded and retracted his Longevity Sword.

"Ning Miss, I've long heard of the Seven Treasures Glazed Tower's fame as the world's top auxiliary martial soul. Could I take a look?"

"Just call me Rongrong," she waved dismissively.

Then, dazzling seven-colored light emanated from her, gathering in her right palm, forming a floating Seven-Treasure Glazed Tower over a foot high.

In the tower's shimmering glow, she appeared even more noble. Two yellow soul rings quietly rose from beneath her feet, circling.

A trace of pride appeared on Ning Rongrong's face. "My innate soul power is level nine. My father said that no auxiliary martial soul has ever reached full innate soul power. Among auxiliary soul masters, my talent is top-tier."

Su Cheng looked thoughtfully at the shining Seven Treasures Glazed Tower.

"I heard that because of the uniqueness of your martial soul, your sect doesn't allow choosing another auxiliary soul master as a partner…"

He immediately regretted speaking.

He had intended this as a segue into the topic he wanted to discuss, but it came out wrong and sounded inappropriate.

Probably because he hadn't communicated with someone his age in so long, his perspective slipped.

He wasn't a senior—he was a peer—but the words could easily be misinterpreted.

Sure enough, Ning Rongrong's expression instantly shifted to a slightly strange one.

"…"

Su Cheng felt awkward.

"Um… I meant that… perhaps that standard is a bit unreasonable."

"…" Her gaze grew even stranger.

"I think even auxiliary soul masters could develop some combat capability, at least enough to defend themselves in non-extreme situations, without having to rely entirely on others for protection."

This time, he spoke the truth.

The so-called "auxiliary" classification is just a label.

Martial soul attributes do have tendencies—some excel in attack, others in teamwork—but they aren't permanently restricted.

Even Oscar's Food-type martial soul could gain offensive power through a mirror skill. There's no reason the Seven Treasures Glazed Tower couldn't be developed similarly.

Of course, for optimal efficiency, emphasizing auxiliary traits is still best.

This is the method honed over hundreds of years of sect tradition. Su Cheng was not arrogant enough to think he could overturn it alone.

The one who understands their martial soul best is always the user.

Besides soul rings, training combat aptitude and using soul bones to enhance attack and defense is still feasible.

With the Seven Treasures Glazed Tile Sect's resources, he doubted they couldn't afford a few soul bones.

The real issue is Ning Rongrong herself—pampered from childhood, ingrained with sect culture, unaware of such possibilities.

Nevertheless, she disregarded Su Cheng's words.

She admitted his talent was high, but didn't feel inferior.

Their paths were different.

As a level-nine innate auxiliary soul master, born noble and raised as her family's hope, she had her own pride.

In Ning Rongrong's view, no auxiliary soul master had ever reached full innate soul power. That made her the most gifted.

Not to mention Su Cheng's humble background—he probably didn't even fully understand his own martial soul, yet here he was giving unsolicited advice.

And mentioning the sect's selection standards for partners naturally provoked misgivings, worsening her impression of him.

Still, trained from a young age, Ning Rongrong maintained basic politeness on the surface.

She replied perfunctorily, "Su classmate, you jest. These are traditions handed down by our elders. How could I, a junior, presume to question them?"

Su Cheng, experienced as he was, immediately saw through her emotions.

Crap—he had completely come across as an ordinary boy showing off.

"Whew…" Su Cheng sighed internally, admitting defeat. "I really dislike little brats…"
