Chapter 62 - Distinguished Guests of Tiandou Royal Academy

"Greetings, senior. My name is Su Cheng. I do indeed have this intention," Su Cheng nodded. "I've heard that Tiandou Royal Academy possesses the best cultivation environment in the empire."

"Then you've chosen the right place," the man nodded as well. A trace of pride unconsciously appeared on his face. "I am Sun Buyu, a teacher at the academy. Come with me first to meet a few of the academy's Education Committee members. We'll talk as we walk."

For ordinary people, receiving such treatment would naturally be impossible. Not to mention directly meeting the academy's upper management—even enrolling was extremely difficult. But when it came to geniuses, the standards were naturally different.

Seeing this, Su Cheng withdrew his martial soul and followed Sun Buyu toward the academy deep in the mountains.

After the two left, the few students who had been guarding the academy entrance earlier exchanged a few words before leaving with excited expressions.

Clearly, what they had witnessed today counted as big news for them, something worth sharing with their respective friends.

Su Cheng and Sun Buyu were unaware of what was happening behind them. At this moment, the two were walking along the mountain path.

Along the way, however, Su Cheng didn't see many students.

According to Sun Buyu, Tiandou Royal Academy actually had quite a large student body—more than five hundred people. However, the academy covered an enormous area and possessed various attribute-based mimetic cultivation grounds. Most students were scattered throughout the different mimetic zones cultivating, which instead left the main campus rather sparsely populated.

So-called mimetic cultivation grounds referred to environments that allowed Soul Masters to cultivate their martial souls under conditions best suited to them. While it couldn't be said to produce twice the results with half the effort, it nevertheless provided extremely effective assistance.

Spread out like this, it was only natural that not many people could be seen.

"Our current location has already entered the academy's main campus area. The mimetic zones are distributed across the mountains, both above and below, as well as by the lakes. The academy has more than fifty teachers—our faculty strength is extremely complete."

As they walked, Sun Buyu not only explained the academy's various advantages to Su Cheng but also asked about his background.

"Su Cheng, judging from you being only twelve or thirteen years old yet already possessing Soul Elder–level cultivation, I assume your martial soul had innate full soul power? Which family are you from? Didn't any elders accompany you?"

Soul Masters developed faster physically, and combined with Su Cheng's rapid cultivation growth over the past two years, his appearance alone made him not much different from a sixteen- or seventeen-year-old youth.

Sun Buyu was estimating his age based on his cultivation level combined with personal experience.

"I don't really have a family. I'm an orphan who was adopted and raised in a remote mountain village. My adoptive father has already passed away. As for my martial soul's innate soul power level, I'm not very clear about it. The people at the Martial Soul Branch Hall said that something went wrong during the soul power test back then, and the result wasn't accurate."

"I see. In that case, your martial soul may very well have undergone mutation." Sun Buyu nodded thoughtfully upon hearing this.

After all, any device could malfunction at times. Unexpected issues during innate soul power testing had occurred before.

Especially when it came to judging mutated martial souls, errors were even more likely.

"Then what's the situation with your second soul ring?" Sun Buyu finally asked the question he was most curious—and most concerned—about.

"My second soul ring…" Su Cheng had long prepared an answer for this. A trace of lingering fear appeared on his face at just the right moment.

"When I reached level twenty, I hunted a soul beast entirely on my own, without anyone guiding me. After risking my life to kill a Nether Wolf that had just passed the thousand-year mark, I judged by instinct that I could absorb it and tried. At the time, it felt like my body was about to burst from the energy. Fortunately, I managed to endure it in the end."

In truth, what he killed wasn't a Nether Wolf at all, but a Green-Patterned White-Armored Lizard possessing extreme metal attributes, with cultivation close to two thousand years.

"You're really reckless." Sun Buyu sucked in a cold breath upon hearing this.

Su Cheng wasn't the first person to absorb a soul ring beyond the standard age limit—there had been successful cases before. But a second soul ring already at the thousand-year level was something he had never heard of.

Let alone attempting it without any guidance. Surviving could only be attributed to incredible luck.

As they spoke, the two arrived at the central area of the academy's main campus. Sun Buyu led Su Cheng into a reception room.

"Su Cheng, there are distinguished guests visiting the academy today. Wait here for a moment while I inform the Education Committee members. Coincidentally, you can also meet those two guests. With your talent, you'll likely have plenty of interactions with them in the future."

"Distinguished guests?" Su Cheng was slightly taken aback.

There weren't many people who could be called "distinguished guests" by Tiandou Royal Academy.

Could it be some imperial relative? Or perhaps Xue Qinghe—who was actually Qian Renxue in disguise?

He remembered that several of the academy's Education Committee members belonged to Xue Qinghe's faction.

Of course, it could also be Prince Xue Xing's group. The Fourth Prince, Xue Beng—whom he had previously considered approaching—seemed to be a student at Tiandou Royal Academy as well.

Still, guessing now was pointless. He would know once he saw them.

Su Cheng didn't have to wait long before Sun Buyu returned.

"Su Cheng, after hearing about your situation, the Education Committee members all want to meet you. Come with me now. Perform well later—there's a chance you could be selected for the Tiandou Royal Team."

With that, he led Su Cheng into the adjacent Education Committee office.

As the power center of Tiandou Royal Academy, the room's furnishings were surprisingly simple—only necessary items and a few basic green plants for decoration.

Upon entering, the first thing Su Cheng saw was three elderly men seated in the central main positions.

Their expressions weren't stern, and their gazes toward Su Cheng were gentle. Yet merely sitting there, they seemed to be the core of the room, exuding an unmistakable aura of powerful individuals.

All three were wearing black robes embroidered with strange patterns in golden thread. Su Cheng knew that these were custom ceremonial robes for Soul Douluo–level experts above rank eighty, second only to the red robes of Titled Douluo.

Under normal circumstances, Soul Douluo and Titled Douluo rarely wore such attire. It represented not just status, but solemnity. Only during duels between peers or at extremely important occasions would these exclusive Soul Douluo robes appear.

They certainly weren't wearing them for Su Cheng—but for the two "distinguished guests" Sun Buyu had mentioned.

Turning his gaze, he saw that aside from the three elders, there was also a middle-aged man in his forties and a young girl about his own age seated in the guest positions.

The middle-aged man had refined features—fair complexion, straight nose, square mouth—and an elegant, gentle appearance. He wore a spotless white robe, with smooth black hair flowing down his back. At this moment, he was examining Su Cheng with a look of surprise.

The girl had short, ear-length hair, delicate and refined features, and a naturally noble aura befitting a young aristocratic lady. She too looked at Su Cheng with curiosity.

Ning Fengzhi? Then the girl beside him must be Ning Rongrong.

Su Cheng felt a slight sense of surprise internally, but his expression remained calm.

Setting up a transition, pulling in some allies—otherwise I'll get brutally beaten by a darkened Qian Renxue later.
