Red panicked for a moment when he thought about dying. Without a doubt, he would die if that fireball hit him. In the moment of panic, he calmed as his mind became clearer.
Once more, Levelheaded helped him to calm down in the moment of crisis. Once his mind became clear, he immediately made his move.
With a heavy step on his right foot, he stopped himself from coming closer to the dire wolf. At this point, the distance between him and the dire wolf was just two meters.
He stopped him with his right foot planted on the ground, and his left foot was still in the air. The spear moved to his right hand as he held it differently. With just one foot on the ground, he found a sudden momentum and threw the spear toward the dire wolf's mouth.
His spear-throw was stuck, but he was not going to miss within such a short distance. The moment he threw the spear, the dire wolf also shot the fireball.
The spear went through the fireball and pierced the dire wolf's mouth. It howled in pain, but Red also had his own problem. The spear was not meant to stop the fireball, as the bright flame was still coming for him.
Thanks for throwing the spear; he was falling forward. He lost his balance after throwing a spear without a proper footing. However, that helped him dodge the fireball.
Of course, he didn't leave unscathed from that exchange. The fireball grazed against his back, burning his leather armor. Scalding pain assaulted his back, but it was something he could endure.
The moment his body fell to the ground, he tried to get back on his feet again. He fell face-first to the ground. He flipped around, trying to get up as quickly as possible.
However, the dire wolf with a spear struck in its mouth was above him, pouncing at him with fierce killing intent. He crossed his left arm above, blocking the paw with his left hand as its claw dug into his flesh.
With a spear stuck in its mouth, it could not close its mouth. The dire wolf tried to bite his head after pinning him down, but the spear helped him. The part of the spear that stuck outside its mouth bounced off the ground. It could not get closer because of the spear.
However, that didn't stop the maddening wolf. It kept banging its head closer, but that only pushed the spear deeper into the dire wolf's mouth. A beast was still a beast after all. It was blinded by its rage and slowly killed itself.
Red's right hand moved to his waist, trying to grab his dagger. Before he could pull his dagger, he saw something at the corner of his eye. Something was coming toward him, a blue ball.
It was the same blue ball that aided the Chief when the Chief fought the Dire Wolf King. He thought it was shot to help him until he realized its trajectory. That blue ball was aimed at him, not the dire wolf.
He had seen the impact when that thing hit the Dire Wolf King. The Dire Wolf King shrugged off the impact as if nothing, but he was not the Dire Wolf King. If that thing hit him directly, he might die with his body burst into pieces.
Levelheaded helped him not to panic, but his mind blanked. There was nothing he could do to avoid that thing when the beast was on top of him. A calmness couldn't help him because death was coming for him.
His eyes followed the blue thing's trajectory, and he found who shot the thing. A tiny figure who hid behind the window of the two-floor house. The figure wore a black cloak, covering the face.
Red might not be able to see the face, but he was familiar with the figure, and he recognized that cloaked figure in a single glance.
It was the Shaman!
How could he not figure out early who could create that tentacle and use magic? But why? Even in the moment of a crisis like this, the Shaman still wanted to kill him instead of focusing on their enemy. Why? What did he do wrong to be targeted like this?
Levelheaded could no longer keep him calm. He was filled with rage right now. He simply could not understand what he did to deserve this.
In that moment, he sensed something different. The pressure on him was loosened as blood dripped into his cheek.
Red looked up, realizing the dire wolf was dying as it repeatedly banged its head toward him, pushing the spear further into its mouth. His right hand was already holding the dagger, and he stabbed the wolf's neck.
That weakened the dire wolf further. He took the chance, pushing the wolf to the side, using the wolf as a shield against that blue ball.
The blue ball hit the dire wolf's back and exploded. The dire wolf's body exploded into pieces, and he was blasted by the impact. He was thrown and dragged on the ground before crashing into the already ruined building. His collision into the building went with a bang, loud enough to make the other warriors look in his direction.
"Arghhh…"
Red groaned in pain; his head was still ringing from the explosion, and it was hard to breathe. He felt pain all over his body, but he quickly turned around, crawled on the ground, moving to the back of the building, looking for cover.
He crawled while enduring the pain because he didn't want to be exposed to the Shaman again. For the Shaman to shoot at him instead of the wolf, he was not surprised if the Shaman shot at him to confirm his death.
His vision was blurred, and he tasted something weird in his mouth, but he kept going until he was in the back of the building. He sat up, trying to rest his back on the remaining wall, only to feel a sharp pain in his back.
His face crunched in pain as his hand tried to reach the source of his pain. A piece of wood pierced his back. The wood was as big as his dagger's handle. He quickly pulled off the wood and covered the wound with his hand.
"Argghhhh!"
He realized that it was a bad idea to pull it right away and cover it with his hand right away, to stop the bleeding. His breathing was ragged, but fortunately, the bleeding was not too severe. The first thing he did was to check his status, checking on his health.
Health: 97 Stamina: 218 Mana: 683
His health was still ticking down with the wound on his back and that explosion. He was still in disbelief that the Shaman would rather have him dead than him alive, helping them to kill those wolves. He just couldn't understand why the Shaman went that far just to kill him.
