Chapter 36 - Book of Manasmith 1

Red thought he had missed the Appraisal skill and used it again in the book. However, it responded with the same information.

[Book of Manasmith 1]

[Do you want to learn Book of Manasmith 1?]

It didn't explain what the book was, whether it was a skill, or maybe anything. He didn't know what the book was about. He hoped for a little bit more explanation, but there was no such thing.

"It doesn't matter anyway whether I know or not about this Book of Manasmith. I guess I will soon find out what this is about!"

With that in mind, Red agreed to learn Book of Manasmith 1. The book glowed in blue particles and entered his body. He felt a warm current inside his body, flowing through from his chest up, then spreading out to his head and limbs.

[You have learned a skill, Mana Smelting!]

[You have learned a skill, Mana Refining!]

[You have learned a skill, Mana Forging!]

Red was surprised when he saw the notification. He learned three skills at once, not expecting such a surprise from the book. However, his face quickly turned into a frown when he read all the skills.

"Mana Smelting… Mana Refining… Mana Forging…"

He had not checked what the skill did, but the name implied the three skills related to mana, something he hadn't figured out. Using Appraisal consumed his mana, but he didn't have control over that mana yet. He could sense the mana when he used the skill, but that was it.

His attempt to learn more about mana met with a dead end. That was why he was not happy when he learned his three new skills related to mana.

"But wait… This is a skill. Maybe I can learn more about mana with my new skill…"

Mana Smelting and Mana Refining were tier 3 skills, which was a surprise for him. He didn't expect to get tier 3 skills, let alone tier 4, which was Mana Forging. This told him that this skill might be better than he thought.

His aversion toward mana made him think the skill might not be useful for him at all, but this changed his mind. It was tier 3 and tier 4 skills. Even if he could not use it in combat, there must be some way for him to utilize it.

[Mana Smelting: an ability to extract metal from ore by consuming mana.]

[Mana Refining: an ability to purify an extracted metal from ore by removing impurities with mana.]

[Mana Forging: an ability to shape metal or other materials using mana.]

Red was not surprised that he didn't understand the three skills right away. He didn't understand them, but he had some clue regarding the three skills that might complement each other. He was confident about one thing. None of the skills were helpful in combat; they were not meant for a battle.

He wanted to delve further into the skill, thinking of using it for an experiment. But he was on the run right now, and there was one young goblin around. He didn't know how useful the skill was, but he got this skill and new information about the loot thanks to that young goblin.

Using the young hunter as bait, he managed to kill the dire wolf. If not for the young goblin, he might not have thought of fighting it, let alone killing it.

The book meant a bundle of skills, skills that complemented each other. That was new information he got today about the loot.

There was still a lot to figure out about, there was still a lot to find out about everything related to the awakening, and he made progress today. That progress gave him a satisfaction he never felt before. He was surprised by it as well, but he pushed the thoughts to the back of his head. He needed to survive first instead of enjoying his discovery.

Red checked his left arm. The bleeding stopped, but it still hurt. The stinging pain that kept bothering him reminded him of his wound. It was not just a hole from the dire wolf's teeth mark, but his flesh was slightly torn as the dire wolf tried to pull his arm after biting him. Fortunately, he stopped the wolf from ripping his hand apart, which could have made it worse for him.

He took a deep breath and went to where the young hunter was waiting for him. He made sure to check his surroundings before approaching the young goblin, ensuring there would be no second dire wolf.

After making sure it was safe, he returned to the young hunter who was quivering in fear. The young goblin had its back against the tree, clenching its hand nervously. The young goblin didn't notice his arrival because of the fear.

Red scanned the young hunter and found that the young hunter lost his weapon.

'Most likely he threw his weapon when he ran away.'

Before killing the dire wolf, he thought of killing the young goblin. But he changed his mind after killing the dire wolf. The young goblin unknowingly helped him, playing a big part in killing the dire wolf. He thought of bringing the young goblin back to the tribe as a repayment.

"We are leaving! Follow me!"

The young hunter startled, almost running away, but quickly recognized the voice. It was his boss's voice. The young goblin turned toward the voice only to find his boss's back, walking into the jungle.

He was about to question his boss's decision to walk into the jungle instead of following the obvious path. However, he quickly threw the question out of his head as he recalled how his boss killed the wolf. The young goblin ran after his boss.

"What's your name?" Red asked the young goblin as they kept walking.

"N-na-name… T-tt-tob… Tob!"
