Chapter 11 - Spore Wanderers

Amy studied the city in front of her. Same architecture as the others she had seen.

I don't see a reason to refuse 'ruin-walkers'

She sighed and continued walking, Emily following just behind. She arrived at the entrance, Near the entrance stood a relatively small and squarish mushroom house and a half-wolf with a black tie and gray shirt peeking through its windows. As Amy passed the house the half-wolf's ears perked up.

"Hey!" his weary eyes lit up from daydreaming.

Cough, "Certificate for traveling outside of the city?" the half-wolf said with a rough voice.

Amy shifted her gaze at Emily.

"Oh, uh when did that come out? Haha..." Emily said in a trembling noise, hidden in a soft laughter.

"Council decided to enact the law a few weeks prior," The half-wolf rubbed his eyes. "Since Spore-bearers attacks have increased."

Amy suddenly spoke up "We left before the law." She shifted her gaze to the half-wolf.

Emily nodded a moment later.

The half-wolf scanned their clothing and then sighed "They should've announced it earlier." He stamped the seal on the document and handed it over.

Amy grabbed it and walked further into the city. After a few silent steps; she turned back to Emily.

"The beast I've fought earlier," Amy lowered her voice. "Was that a Spore-bearer?"

"It was... a larvae Spore-bearer." Emily answered, with a timid voice.

Amy turned back.

I've used much of my mana to something that small.

Before resuming "What about the adult ones?" Amy asked.

"They are tall like a house and hunt in groups." Emily answered, rubbing her forearms.

They kept walking without another word.

The streets were larger than the previous city with a surprising amount of people walking around. Amy's gaze scanned the city, then stopped.

That should be a pub.

Amy walked towards a mushroom house that suddenly expands in the middle and narrows towards the cap.

She straightened her back, the way Ariel always did, and reached for the handle.

She opened it with confidence. Emily hesitated before playing along.

A half-bull near a table of sweet mushrooms, half-sheep still grinning from some boast and the rest of the crew turned to stare. She walked in and sat on a stool

"How much..." She stopped

A foul, fermented scent filled her lungs, the supposed pub had a fermentation room just aside the entrance.

Amy slowly walked out and closed the door.

He would've checked.

Amy's eyes widened. She tugged her backpack forward, her fingers already searching.

Right.

Ariel took all the coins in the name of safekeeping, from their reckless expenses.
