I was blinded by the sudden brightness coming from outside the tent. Stretching and yawning, I stepped out. The wind was strong, and Liam was nowhere in sight. His tent was open, but empty.
Panic gripped me.
He left me.
I tried not to jump to conclusions, but what else was I supposed to think? His tent was open, instead of three Racunies there were only two, and he was just... gone. I knew this would happen, my so-called grandpa sent me here to get killed, but I was going to save Sabrina no matter what.
I rummaged through our supplies.
"If he's not going to go with me, then I'll go by myself," I huffed.
He said something about passing through the desert, so the desert was my next stop.
"What do you think you're doing?"
I spun around to see Liam standing there, arms crossed like he hadn't just vanished into thin air.
"Are you trying to run away?" His eyes flicked to the bag I was stuffing with food.
I scoffed. "What do you expect me to do? I woke up, saw two Racunies instead of three, your tent open, and you missing, what was I supposed to think?"
"That I left you?" he asked, though he didn't sound too sure of his own answer.
I hissed in irritation and stomped toward my tent.
"Believe me, I don't mind leaving you here," he muttered, "but the king would have my head on a plate."
I gritted my teeth, fists clenched, I felt like punching him.
How dare he? I was kidnapped into another world, forced to do something I didn't want to do, and now I was stuck with a guy who didn't even care if I died.
I took out the dagger hidden in the leaves and strapped it to my thigh.
"We leave in two hours," Liam said through the tent opening.
I ignored him and decided to take a walk, grabbing my dagger just in case I stumbled upon a wolf, if I stayed in that tent with him for two more minutes, one of us wasn't coming out alive.
Behind rows of different trees, I tried training myself to use the dagger. I tried, keyword tried to throw it into one of the trees, but it just fell to the ground in front of me, I groaned and took a more direct approach, stabbing at the tree like some kind of woodland murderer, but even that was useless.
I stopped when I heard rustling leaves, my body tensed.
Quickly, I hid behind a tree, waiting to see what or who was there.
A moment later, a tall, beautiful wolf stepped out. It was about the size of a baby bear, its fur white as snow, well, mostly white, blood stained its fur, dripping from a wound on its side Or, you know, maybe it had just eaten some poor, unfortunate soul and I was next on the menu.
Screaming for help seemed like a bad idea, staying silent was smarter.
I really wished Liam would come this way and save me. Not that I wanted his help, but the idea of dealing with him was better than living inside a wolf's belly.
The wolf howled loudly, making my heart pound, looking closer from my hiding spot, I saw the gash on its side, it really did look hurt.
Maybe I should…
This is bad, this is bad.
I tried talking myself out of the crazy idea forming in my head, but the wolf let out another pained sound.
Okay, it was definitely in pain or at least, I hoped it was. I didn't speak wolf, so for all I knew, it was just screaming at me to stay put while it prepped for its meal.
Before I could convince myself to turn back toward the tent, I stepped out of my hiding spot.
This is a stupid idea.
Mom and Anny wouldn't like this, if I died, I was pretty sure the angels would beat me up before sending me to hell for my stupidity.
But it was too late now.
I was in plain sight.
