Chapter Forty The Pancake Treaty
Angel had expected an intense reaction from Nadir.
She just didn't expect this kind of reaction from him.
Nadir stared at Leah like she had just spouted out a forbidden spell. His black shirt still clashed with the pink and white around him, but his face? It was unreadable at first, like someone hit pause on his expression.
Then his eyes shifted slowly to Angel.
"Handsome uncle?" he repeated.
Angel sat frozen on Leah's tiny wooden chair, pancake spatula still in hand. Her brain spun faster than the batter Leah had whisked earlier.
She inhaled.
Gaslighting was a survival skill at this point.
"Yeah," Angel said casually, flipping a pancake again. "Handsome uncle. Probably one of your 50 cousins."
' oh my gosh what I'm I even saying now, anyways as long as he I distract him from thinking further. That will be enough for me.'
Nadir blinked slowly. "I don't have 50 cousins."
"Feels like you do," she said.
