Ryuya looked genuinely puzzled, his tone steady and respectful.
"I have never hidden anything from you, nor would I ever dare to act behind your back. If you doubt me, you're welcome to examine my memories yourself."
He spoke with such upright confidence that Muzan was momentarily speechless.
He's right.
There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with that statement.
But—
Right about what?!
Did he think Muzan didn't want to look through his memories?
He simply couldn't.
If he could, why would he waste time setting traps and probing like this?
Still…
Looking at Ryuya's calm, honest expression, there was not the slightest hint of panic.
Could it be—
Had he truly overthought things?
Originally, Muzan had impersonated Ryuya to extract information from Kochou Kanae. When that yielded nothing useful, he decided to pressure Ryuya directly, hoping to scare him into revealing something out of desperation.
But Ryuya hadn't faltered.
He didn't even seem aware that Muzan's control over him had weakened.
If he didn't know he had escaped control, then naturally he wouldn't dare act recklessly.
Even turning Kochou Kanae into a demon back then had not been Ryuya's own idea—it was Kokushibo's suggestion.
From that angle, Ryuya hadn't stepped out of line.
Perhaps everything between him and Kanae truly began with that accidental encounter?
Yet—
Something still felt wrong.
When Muzan impersonated Ryuya earlier, Kanae had said she fell for him because he saved her. She dreamed of coexistence between the Demon Slayer Corps and demons. Ryuya had unintentionally turned her into a demon, allowing her to understand both sides.
She claimed she fell in love at first sight.
That drinking his blood made her unable to forget him.
The more Muzan thought about it, the more absurd it sounded.
Absurdity itself had opened the door for something even more absurd.
And yet—
There were no obvious flaws.
Maybe, beyond that first encounter, there truly had been no further contact between them?
Actually… that would make sense.
Muzan recalled something else.
When he once viewed Doma's memories, he saw that Kochou Kanae's younger sister, Shinobu Kocho, had visited the Eternal Paradise Cult.
She had been taken away by Ryuya.
And Ryuya told Doma he intended to consume her.
From that perspective, Ryuya clearly had no special feelings toward the Demon Slayer Corps.
If he even devoured Shinobu—
Then what kind of relationship could he possibly have with Kanae?
If they were truly close, why would he eat her sister?
So perhaps—
Muzan really had overthought everything.
But.
Did Kanae know?
A dark amusement stirred in Muzan's eyes.
He turned to Kanae.
"Miss Kochou Kanae, perhaps you don't know… but your sister, Shinobu Kocho, was eaten by my son, Ryuya, a few days ago."
He said it casually.
As though mentioning the weather.
Kanae's face changed instantly.
She slowly turned to look at Ryuya.
Her sister had indeed gone to find him.
And she had not returned to the Butterfly Mansion since.
No.
Ryuya would not harm Shinobu.
She believed that completely.
Ryuya met her gaze without flinching.
No avoidance.
No guilt.
Just steady certainty.
Kanae's eyes trembled.
Then—
She smiled faintly.
She understood.
No words were necessary.
Their eyes alone conveyed the message.
"Is that true, Ryuya?" she asked softly.
"Yes. Exactly as Father said."
He nodded without hesitation.
Muzan's lips curved upward.
This was it.
The fracture.
The moment of collapse.
But—
Kanae lowered her lashes slightly.
"Ryuya, Shinobu must have troubled you, didn't she?"
Her voice trembled faintly.
"I'm sorry. It's my fault for not disciplining my foolish sister properly. From now on, I'll restrain myself. I won't anger you the way she did."
She lifted her head again, eyes shining.
"I came here because I have already decided to stay by your side. The Demon Slayer Corps… the Butterfly Mansion… none of that matters anymore. Whether the road ahead brings clear skies or thunder, I will follow you without hesitation."
Her voice softened.
"Because I love you."
And then—
She stepped forward and threw herself into Ryuya's arms.
Her warmth pressed against him.
Familiar.
Irreplaceable.
Ryuya's heart tightened.
Kanae's words were layered.
To Muzan, they sounded like blind devotion.
To Ryuya—
They were reassurance.
She came willingly.
She knew what she was doing.
"This time, I won't let you go," Ryuya murmured, tightening his hold around her.
Through the thin fabric of their clothing, they felt each other's warmth.
Kanae's cheeks flushed as she clung to him, refusing to loosen her embrace.
Muzan watched silently.
His mood was… complicated.
Setting aside their shameless display in front of him—
Kanae's logic was utterly ridiculous.
Your sister was eaten.
And you still love him?
You forgive him?
This generation's idea of love was incomprehensible.
Was his son really that charming?
Muzan couldn't see it.
The girl must have poor judgment.
And yet—
Something about this scene unsettled him.
It felt wrong.
Increasingly wrong.
But he couldn't pinpoint why.
Frustration swelled in his chest.
Strangely, he had no outlet for it.
"Father," Ryuya said calmly, still holding Kanae's hand as though performing a formal introduction. "Thank you for bringing Hui Hui here. She has severed ties with the Demon Slayer Corps and will serve you alongside me."
He bowed slightly.
Kanae followed suit, hands clasped politely.
"Father Muzan, Ryuya and I will honor you properly."
She smiled sweetly.
