Chapter 41 - Chapter 40 A Day with a Child

After Sundari had arranged the future operational methods and basic guidelines for the police force, Kort took Bo-Katan and Shae back to the Hammerhead-class cruiser.

"Welcome home, boss," Omen greeted Kort, but then he saw Bo-Katan Kryze and Shae Vizla following him off the ship. "Boss, this is..." Omen gestured towards Shae Vizla.

"Nice to meet you. I'm Shae Vizla, Lady Bo-Katan's personal bodyguard," Shae introduced herself.

"Hello, I'm Omen Wren, Boss Kort's adjutant. You can find me if you need anything in the future," Omen stepped forward and shook her hand.

"It's fine if you two get along well, but can you please let go of the hand you've been holding for a while?" Kort slapped their hands.

Omen smiled, blushing, and Shae did the same. Kort saw that he didn't even need the Force to sense their emotions; it was love at first sight. He decided to take care of the child himself and give them some space.

"Hmm... In that case, Omen, why don't you show Shae around the ship?" Kort urged them to leave so he wouldn't have to see them.

Bo-Katan waved goodbye as they left, and Shae waved back.

"Alright, now it's just the two of us. What do you want to play first?" Kort squatted down and asked Bo-Katan.

"I want to play with a blaster!" Bo-Katan jumped, wanting to play with a blaster.

Kort thought about it. Maybe he should go back to Vadil first and show Bo-Katan the Scourge, let her see the monsters from other star systems. Deciding to do it, Kort ordered someone to pilot the Kom'rk-class fighter/transport directly back to Vadil.

After getting off the ship, Bo-Katan was ecstatic. This was her first time on a planet other than Mandalore and Kalevala. Kort took her to the room where the Scourge was.

"Wow, this big guy even has a room to live in!" Bo-Katan exclaimed.

"Yes, they have their own consciousness, so we should treat them equally," Kort stroked the Scourge, and the Scourge lowered its head and rubbed against Kort.

Kort pointed at the Scourge and told Bo-Katan to touch it. Bo-Katan reached out her small hand and stroked the Scourge. "It's amazing, he won't attack me?"

"No, Bo-Katan, he's also part of our family." Since Kort connected with the Scourge, he could completely understand its thoughts; it wasn't a creature that liked to fight.

Just then, Murto found Kort. "Governor, you must not let Pre Vizsla enter Free Mandalore!" Murto had just learned that his son had asked his second uncle for a letter of recommendation, so he quickly sought out Kort.

Kort looked confused. Pre Vizsla? Entering Free Mandalore? What was all this about? Murto then explained everything, but Kort didn't feel strongly about it. At eighteen, he was perfectly capable of controlling his own life. It was normal not to want to go to Sundari University, and he wouldn't object to him joining his Free Mandalore.

"You're too strict with your son. What you think isn't necessarily right. He can choose his own life. Perhaps he won't become a qualified scholar, but he might be a powerful warrior, which is the highest praise in our culture, isn't it?" Kort comforted Murto.

Murto thought for a long time, and finally decided to let go and let his child choose his own future. Then he told Kort about another matter: news from the Trade Federation.

"What news?" Kort asked.

"They said they would continue to use our hyperspace lane and hoped there would be no more ship inspections this time, because they paid a lot last time," Murto relayed.

"This time, don't let anyone board for inspection. However, once you detect them entering the Mandalore system, send a message directly to the current captain of the Hammerhead-class cruiser, Forrester, and have them attack. The Trade Federation's money is easier to earn than other organizations'," Kort came up with a mischievous idea.

"Understood, Governor Kort." Murto left after reporting.

Kort turned around and was very pleased to find that Bo-Katan hadn't secretly snuck off this time, so he bought her an ice cream from a roadside vendor. "Is there anything else you want?"

"Hmm, I want to go to the barracks. There's nothing fun out here," Bo-Katan pouted.

Kort slapped his forehead. "This child is the complete opposite of my cousin! My cousin is a total pacifist, so how is her sister a little devil? But this is what most normal Mandalorian children are like. So, my cousin is the minority," Kort grumbled mentally about the vastly different personalities of the two sisters.

"Alright, alright," Kort said helplessly and took Bo-Katan to the barracks. The soldiers were practicing piloting Goliath droids. The moment Bo-Katan saw the Goliath droids, she became excited.

"Can I drive this? Can I? Can I?" Bo-Katan hugged Kort's arm and shook it.

"No, you have to wait until you're fifteen," Kort said, regardless of her shaking.

"Okay," Bo-Katan was very disappointed.

"But I can drive it while you watch from inside, but don't touch anything in there," Kort didn't want to disappoint Bo-Katan, so he let her come with him.

"Yahoo!" Bo-Katan cheered and followed Kort into the cockpit of the Goliath droid. Even just walking around the barracks made her very happy. After reaching the training ground, Kort said to Bo-Katan, "Try pressing this button."

Bo-Katan pressed the button, and two missiles immediately launched, flying out and destroying a target on the ground in the distance.

Meanwhile, on Cato Neimoidia...

Captain Daultay Dofine was reporting the mission brief to Nute Gunray.

"Why didn't you delete the records after killing the Judicial Forces? Daultay, you disappoint me greatly," Nute Gunray sat on the office sofa, shouting at the bowing Daultay Dofine.

"I apologize, Senator Gunray. I will definitely complete the trade next time," Daultay Dofine vowed confidently.

"Definitely? I hope so. This time you're still going to Coruscant, so you'll still pass through the Mandalore system. You figure it out yourself. If you fail again, it won't be me coming for you, it'll be those slavers. After all, we lost tens of millions of credits and all our cargo this time," Gunray said to Daultay Dofine while drinking a beverage from another star system.

"Didn't we already pay the credits? Are these guys going to continue to make trouble for us?!" Daultay Dofine said angrily.

"This Governor Kort is a greedy man. He's not very similar to other Mandalorians," Gunray commented.

"Then send people to kill him! With enough assassins, killing a Mandalorian should be easy!"

"Idiot! You have no idea who he is. He is the greatest hidden power in the entire Mandalorian government right now. He gained enough prestige in their civil war. If he didn't lack the desire to be a ruler, he might have been the ruler of Mandalore long ago," Gunray threw out information about Kort.

"Then what should we do, Governor?"

"We'll take it one step at a time. Don't take all the cargo with you this time, and strengthen security. Bring more B1 battle droids. If they still board the ship, eliminate them directly and destroy their landing craft. A Mandalorian governor cannot obstruct our trade, no one can!" Gunray slammed his fist on the table.
