"Circe was never pregnant!" I dropped the bomb.
Wren went stiff, color draining from her face. For a long time I braced for her reaction, I waited for that cold fury I had caught a glimpse of that moment. The one that haunted me yet made me doubt if I had seen it at all.
But it did not come. I realized that I had to push harder since her stunted mind might not be able to comprehend what I had just said.
I needed an explosion for this to work, one that everyone had to witness and that meant luring out her anger so it had nowhere to hide.
I took her hand, to ground her to this moment and to my manipulations.
Her eyes flared, confusion in them like she could not quite wrap her mind around what was happening.
"You deserve to know so you know who is responsible for your sister..." I made my voice crack.
Her hand curled around mine—that was what was needed.
"Who is responsible for your sister not being here anymore. She had to leave you because of what Circe did."
