Early in the morning, Owen was busy packing his bag.
Mehrin watched him quietly before asking,
"Where are you going so early in the morning?"
Owen zipped his bag and replied calmly,
"School is reopening in four days. Before that, I was thinking of staying at Dad's place for a few days. It'll help me refresh my mind."
Mehrin nodded, her voice gentle but firm.
"Go. I've never stopped you. We may be a divorced couple, but he is still your father. I respect your feelings."
Owen smiled slightly.
"When I come back, I'll call you. Please send the driver then."
"Alright," Mehrin said softly. "Bye."
"Bye, Mom."
Owen sat in the car and left for his father Oliver Finn's house.
It wasn't very far—just a journey of one to two hours.
When he arrived, anne and Oliver were already standing outside, waiting to welcome him.
Anne rushed forward and hugged Owen warmly.
"Welcome, son. Please come inside. You've grown so much."
Oliver smiled with pride.
"Yes, my son has come to meet his family today. I'm very happy."
Owen turned to the driver.
"Please take the luggage inside."
Anne hesitated and said apologetically,
"Owen, please forgive us. We don't have a personal guard or driver. Otherwise, you wouldn't have needed to bring one."
Owen replied politely,
"It's okay. I understand."
Everyone went inside. As soon as he entered the house, Owen ran upstairs to his room and started playing games.
Just then, his phone rang.
"Hello," Owen answered.
"Have you reached?" Mehrin asked.
"Yes, Mom."
"Then why didn't you call earlier?"
"I just arrived," he replied.
"Alright. Don't forget to have breakfast on time."
"Yes, Mom. I wanted to ask you something."
"Yes, tell me."
"The extra sports fees need to be paid."
"That's fine. You and I will go to school together and I'll pay it."
Owen paused.
"No, Mom. I want to go with Dad and pay the fees with him."
There was a brief silence. Then Mehrin said,
"Okay. I'll transfer the money to your account. Take your dad as your maid and pay the fees."
She cut the call.
Soon, anne 's voice echoed from downstairs.
"Owen! Come down for breakfast."
"Yes, coming," he replied.
At the dining table, Owen asked,
"Where's Dad?"
"He leaves early for work after breakfast,"
Anne replied.
"Oh," Owen nodded.
Anne placed food in front of him.
"Here, eat properly."
"Yes," Owen said.
After a moment, Anne asked casually,
"So… is your mother still the owner of her company?"
"Yes," Owen replied.
"This year her profit was very high. She's planning to start another company."
Anne scoffed quietly.
"What's the use of so much money when a person is so heartless?"
Owen looked up, confused.
"What do you mean by 'heartless'?"
Anne leaned closer and said coldly,
"Your mother killed your sister in her womb. That's why the divorce happened."
Owen froze.
His mind went blank, trapped between disbelief and a truth he had never known.
