The morning continues with Giyuu reluctantly joining the family for breakfast. The children chat excitedly about their plans for the day, while Sanemi keeps a watchful eye on Giyuu to make sure he actually eats something. Genya arrives, looking tired but amused at the scene of everyone gathered around the table. Genya teases Sanemi about his 'sleepover' with Giyuu and Nezuko, causing Sanemi to throw a piece of toast at him. Tanjiro helps with the dishes while Muichiro plays with Nezuko. The house is filled with warmth and laughter, despite Sanemi's grumbling.
Sanemi stretches out on the couch, grateful for the weekend. He watches as Tanjiro tries to teach Muichiro how to properly fold laundry.
"At least it's not a school day. Those brats can be so loud when they're bored."
Giyuu is napping again, this time on the armchair. The TV plays softly in the background as Sanemi scrolls through his phone.
"Hey, Muichiro, how about we go get some ice cream later?"
He suggests, knowing it's the perfect way to get the kids out of the house for a bit. Muichiro's eyes light up at the mention of ice cream, while Tanjiro nods enthusiastically.
"Yes please! Can we get the strawberry one?"
He looks at Sanemi with hopeful eyes, while Nezuko perks up at the mention of sweets. Nezuko jumps up from her spot and starts running circles around the living room, her energy boundless.
"Watch out for Giyuu, you little tornado!"
He calls out, already anticipating the chaos that could ensue if she accidentally wakes Giyuu up from his nap. The sound of Genya's video game battle can be heard faintly from upstairs, occasionally interrupted by his frustrated shouts.
"That idiot better not break anything up there!"
He shakes his head, knowing his brother's gaming habits can get intense. Nezuko eventually tires herself out and flops down next to Giyuu's chair, panting slightly. She looks up at Sanemi with a cheeky smile, knowing she's been causing trouble.
"You're just like your brother, Tanjiro. Always making a mess."
He says with a smirk, though there's no real anger in his voice.
Tanjiro comes over to scold Nezuko gently, trying to get her to sit still.
"Nezuko, you need to rest too. We can all go out later if you behave."
He gives her a stern but loving look, reminiscent of their mother. Nezuko pouts but listens to Tanjiro, settling down properly. Sanemi can't help but chuckle at how quickly she obeys her older brother.
"You're a good kid, Tanjiro. Keep it up."
He reaches over to ruffle Tanjiro's hair, a rare display of affection from him. The sound of Genya's controller being thrown across the room echoes down the stairs, followed by his loud cursing.
"See? I told you he'd break something!"
He stands up, preparing to go check on his brother and potentially scold him for the tantrum. Genya storms down the stairs, his face red with frustration.
"I died! Again! This game is rigged!"
He collapses onto the couch next to Sanemi, clearly in need of a break from his gaming session. Muichiro, who had been quietly observing the scene, suddenly pecks Genya's cheek. The younger boy's attempt to comfort him is innocent and unexpected.
"Wha- Muichiro!"
Genya blushes furiously, caught off guard by the affectionate gesture. Sanemi bursts out laughing at his brother's reaction. Genya stammers, completely flustered by the kiss while Muichiro just smiles innocently, completely unaware of the effect he has on Genya.
"You can't just... do that!"
He covers his face with his hands, trying to hide his embarrassment from everyone. The complex family dynamics are further illustrated as Tanjiro tries to contain his laughter at Genya's embarrassment.
"Aww, look at you two! So cute together!"
He teases, earning a glare from Genya through his fingers. Giyuu stirs slightly in his sleep, still oblivious to the chaos around him. Muichiro crawls into Genya's lap, completely unbothered by the older boy's distress.
He hugs him tightly, nuzzling against his chest.
"Mui, please... stop being so adorable."
He groans, giving up on trying to escape the situation. Sanemi watches with a mix of amusement and brotherly protectiveness. Nezuko joins in, snuggling up to Genya's other side.
The kids effectively sandwich him, making it impossible for him to escape their affection.
"This is torture! I can't breathe!"
He protests weakly, though he makes no real attempt to push them away. Tanjiro pulls out his phone and starts recording the scene Sanemi takes pity on his suffering brother and stands up.
"Alright, alright. Since you all seem to be in such a good mood, how about we head out for that ice cream now?"
He suggests, knowing that the promise of sweets will distract everyone from teasing Genya further. The triplets immediately perk up at the mention of ice cream, their attention shifting from Genya to Sanemi.
"Yes! Ice cream sounds perfect!"
He helps Genya up, who is still being clung to by Muichiro and Nezuko. Sanemi grabs his keys and wallet, while the kids rush to get their shoes on. Giyuu finally wakes up fully, rubbing his eyes.
"Ice cream?"
He mumbles, looking slightly confused but interested in the idea of sweets. Giyuu stretches and stands up, joining the group by the door. The family is now ready to head out, with Genya looking much more composed after the promise of ice cream.
"Let's go before these little monsters start eating each other."
He jokes, holding the door open for everyone. The kids run out ahead, leaving Sanemi and Giyuu alone for a brief moment.
Giyuu leans in and gives Sanemi a quick kiss on the lips.
"What was that for?"
He asks, a slight blush appearing on his cheeks despite his usual grumpy demeanor. Giyuu shrugs with a small smile.
"Just felt like it. You looked cute worrying about Genya."
He walks out after the kids, leaving Sanemi momentarily stunned by the compliment. The autumn leaves crunch under their feet as they walk down the street.
The air is getting cooler, and Halloween decorations start appearing in windows.
"Sanemi-san, can we decorate the house for Halloween?"
He asks excitedly, already thinking about scary decorations and costumes. Sanemi sighs but nods.
"Yeah, yeah. Just don't make it too scary for the younger ones."
He glances at Muichiro and Nezuko, who seem to be getting increasingly hyper at the mention of decorating.
Muichiro tugs on Sanemi's sleeve.
"Can we have a pumpkin carving contest?"
His eyes sparkle with anticipation, while Tanjiro and Nezuko start discussing pumpkin ideas.
"Sure, but I'm not cleaning up the mess if you all get pumpkin guts everywhere."
He warns, though there's a hint of fondness in his voice. Giyuu watches the interaction with an amused expression, already picturing the chaos that will ensue.
They arrive at the ice cream shop, and the triplets immediately start pointing at all the colorful flavors in the display case.
"I want mint chocolate chip!"
He declares, while Nezuko and Muichiro argue over whether strawberry or vanilla is better. Sanemi rolls his eyes at the arguing.
"Get whatever you want, just don't fight over it."
He turns to Giyuu.
"What about you, Giyuu? What flavor are you getting?"
Giyuu thinks for a moment, then says
"I'll have blueberry cheesecake. It's my favorite seasonal flavor."
He smiles softly, watching as the triplets finally decide on their orders. The cashier looks at their large group with a mixture of amusement and mild horror as they order several different flavors.
"Will that be all for you today?"
Sanemi steps up to pay, pulling out his wallet with a resigned expression. The cashier looks at the kids' youthful faces and hands Sanemi the receipt.
"You must have your hands full with such energetic teens."
Sanemi grumbles in agreement, while Genya and Tanjiro start bickering over who gets to sit next to Muichiro in the booth. Nezuko, being mentally younger than her age, clings to Giyuu's side as they wait for their ice cream.
"Nezuko, you're too old to be clinging like that."
He gently scolds, though he doesn't push her away. The protective instinct he has for his adopted children is clear.
